Re: [expert] Installing OpenSSH, Zlib, and OpenSSL
:~nifty, :~does this has any implications for VNC? AFAIK, Every program you start from your X-session will still be a doughter process of ssh-agent. terminals, additional X-sessions... However, AFAIK ssh|scp|slogin are the only programs which make use of the RSA private/public key authentication found in ~/.ssh dir. If you want a secure conection with VCN, you will have to tunnel it trough a secure channel as described here: http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/sshwin.html By the way, ssh-tunneling is a great tool: basically it can crypt ANY kind of communication bgetween two machines, withouth changing a thing in a program used to comunicate! cu Denis -- - Dr. Denis Havlikhttp://www.ap.univie.ac.at/users/havlik Mandrakesoft||| e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Quality Assurance (@ @)(private: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) ---oOO--(_)--OOo-

Hi List, What an very good idea, I sure am glad you thought of it! :) More importantly shared it with me and the list. The link was very good too. Thanks, b/web Wade Jon wrote: On Tue, May 23, 2000 at 07:56:52AM -0700, Wade wrote: I hope I am on the appropriate list for my questions, since they are regarding things other than installing Mandrake and configuring the desktop. What is the best location for installing all three of these programs? Is it best to have ones OpenSSH use PAM? Is the passphrase requester only required by GNOME? Also if you are as curious about your system as I am, don't bother trying to read /dev/urandom, it works GREAT though. :) Much thanks in advance, Mandrake does have ready-made RPMS for OpenSSH, Zlib, and OpenSSL. I think that you're best bet for isntalling all of those and making them easy to maintain would be to use the RPMS (unless you want to compile so you always have thee latest and greatest). Re: [expert] Installing OpenSSH, Zlib, and OpenSSL
Hi List, Wow, Denis that sounds incredible! I will be very interested in that new and exciting feature soon. First I want to accomplish a good, basic configuration of my system, every day I am a little closer. I haven't yet began to configure any of my daemons which I am naturally the most excited about and looking forward to. Thanks for your help and by the way the link was good! :) b/web Wade Denis HAVLIK wrote: Since you mentioned it: in 7.1, we have a little goody for ssh users (me for instance). I got the RPMs. Just do it! ( you really need it.) rpm -i ssh* That's it.
