just install the kernel-source RPM which exactly matches your kernel.

Go to the Makefile in the src directory /usr/src/2.4.19-16mdk/Makefile
and remove the custom from 16mdkcustom in the EXTRAVVERSION line. If you
do rebuild the kernel later you need to remember to change this line
again or you'll overwrite all of your existing modules etc.I've
discovered that overwriting these modules makes it a little difficult to
recover from kernel configuration errors.

But the && is in case the cmd before the && fails,it won't carry on with

Thank you, Mark! That is something new for me. That means I can now time
builds by doing this command:

time -p 'make dep clean modules modules_install install'

"make dep clean modules modules_install install" is exactly the same

Check the description on the rpm, but I'm pretty sure they moved them to
glibc a few upgrades ago.

Yes, thank you, this worked wonderfully, to remove the kernel-source
package, although it gave a few mesages about some of the driver dir's not
being empty. Thanks!

Re: [expert] kernel headers upgrade?

1999-10-03 Thread Alex ZIJDENBOS

As far as I can tell, the rpm upgrade command tries to uninstall
kernel-headers-2.2.9-19 (before installing the -27 headers), but finds
that you have kernel-source-2.2.9-19 installed, which depends on it.

I'd say it should work if you also get the kernel-source-2.2.9-27
package, and give them both at the same time to rpm -Uhv; it may also
be sufficient to first uninstall the kernel-souce package (rpm -e
kernel-source-2.2.9-19mdk), and then try to upgrade kernel-headers.
