Yeah, *everything* about the TMO and Maharishi's
teaching is easier to understand if you keep this
phrase in mind. Got uncontrollable twitching, both
during meditation and during activity? Call it
'unstressing.' Doesn't that make it easier to
digest? Got a country that you made a "proclamation"
about only a year ago saying that you would bring
peace to the world, starting with that country, that
didn't...uh...quite work out? Ban all TM teaching
in that country and blame the state of the world on
that country. Makes it all easier to digest.

Got a tradition that robs food of their nutrients?
Praise the tradition and pass the "easier to digest."

With no one caring about "sales." I would be surprised
if more than a dozen people start TM in America a month.
Possibly a year.

It's ALL about fund-raising. THAT is the ideal.
One can believe that the funds go somewhere useful
or not, but it takes a real head-in-the-sand person
these days to pretend it's about getting people to
start meditating.

Well, duh. That's the whole purpose of the term
'unstressing.' It's a term invented so that you
can dismiss something bad or unpleasant happening
as "something good happening." It's a mechanism
for never examining the possibility that the
unpleasant experience per se might not be either
necessary or productive.

What he said below. Plus, there is the possibility,
the universe being infinite and not limited to concepts
like humans, that every experience of enlightenment by
every human who ever experienced it could have been
different. Talk about pushing buttons...the scripturalists
who want everything to be predictable and documentable
would have a bigger problem with that possibility than
they would the idea that there might not be a sentient
God.

What a travesty and mockery of life, that those in political power used Terri Schivo, to emotionalize their power base.

Have you ever seen the signs (eeg studies etc...) of any other people
besides TMers. Did you even take a look at
Ken_Stops_His_Brainwaves.wmv that Vaj posted? Pretty impressive. Next
time I can presuade the NIH to float me a million or so I'll gather up
a few of the 'newly awakened' for a study. I the mean time, it seems
that some people have made significant progress after leaving TMO or
they made significant progress and they decided to leave and present
their knowlege outside the context of TM. Whatever. There is a
substantial group of the 'newly awakened' here writing on FFL, willing
to stick their necks out. How many of them are still closely
associated with the TMO?

Haw!
Blackstone Hotel? Were those the years of Old Zimmerman money? or
sturart Z. or Chroman money? Foster and Rubin type of nuevo-money?
ITG days? Gratzen or Telegroup? Do they still think their money is
being used for *peace-making projects*?

Chicago? Blackstone? Ponneman ITG money?

Yes, non=profit tax exempt charitable educational organization.
Except for the fact that in pattern the money seems to go to Europe
and disappear in India in Indian *Foundations*.

Sounds more like a ...*RICO*.

Spelled: Racketeering?

Read the archive here even in FFL and read the federal example case
against securities fraud: 'To be in a position to have "known or
should have known" '. What of the good people in the TMO developement
office? Doing the bidding of the *TMO* like Jane or some lowling like
Wooster, or a Todt? *Known or should have known*? People who
fundraise now like Hagelin or Morris or Wallace or someone spokesman
even like, a Lipman? Spokepeople? Shills?

In a position *to have known or should have known*. Methodically
selling for *peace-making projects* that seem to not materilize.
Non-profit enterprize that seem to be money diversionary projects
primarily, called philantrophy fraud.

Not uncommon generally, turns out even our Iowa US IA Senator Grassley
in the Finance Committe is having hearings about this very subject of
*Philantrophy Frand* and the enormous loss of capital and income that
it generates.

What better example than a home town RICO? The Ia. Attorney General
even has its own laws just on this type of fraud. Jeez. The 4th of
July is only just a few days away. Damn demeocracy? Of course is you
are and aquisitive MMY and No, bless the Decl of Independ. and also
the US constitution of us and our bills of rights that allows us to
live together against just such methodical fraud as we are seeing even
before us!

Re-cerification? Haw! Bring on our Attorneys Generals to defend us
with Truth and re-concilliation.

Yea, '20,000' US teachers of TM/ govenors and only a few hundred
re-certifying? Says a lot about the credibililty of the TMO even
amoungst those who know. MMY and the TMO are not even close to Truth
and Reconcilliation with us generally.

They have not touched *transparency* with anything close to a ten-foot
pole. In fact they are down to a few hundreds of true-believers and
then a whole movement of now de-certified teachers and governors. And
meditatiors? They do not even know what they have obviously spawned.
What does this say about the "great teacher"? It is pretty evident:
bring on democracy and enlightenment. It is also called transparency.

No more localization of consciousness. The localization produces the
"I". There are still some pretty pernicious mental habits that the
mind engages in (ala Suzanne Segal).

First there is a mind then t here is no mind. Peter, make up your mind!

If Tom objects to the term "baby" with regards to CC, why would it
matter if I said it or you said it?

The people who are being studied at MUM show the highest signs of CC
of anyone that I am aware of. True, perhaps all the people in "real"
CC aren't available for study, or perhaps the people that left are
the ones who are deluding themselves.

You can always organize a study of "newly awakened" former TMers and
compare their physiology to the ongoing participants in the program.

100 million here, 100 million there. Pretty soon it adds up to real

If the Palaces are acutually built. They may be just the new framework
for another round of fund raising and property aquisition. Probably a
lot of that is going on in India for long term investment.

I was referring to warning signs BEFORE the attacks. All the physical
attacks, as far as I know, happened on the same day. There were signs
that he had severe problems before the attacks, and it is THOSE that
I was referring to:

Either way - it's the head and tail of the same cat ... How many of
the 'newly awakened' do you know that are still 'true believers'?

It's not true that the powersthatbe at MUM thought that Sem was just
unstressing -- they regarded him as a serious threat. In fact, MUM
intended to put Sem on a plane home the next morning, but just did
the typical halfassed movement things that ended up with a dead kid
in the dining hall. Campus security was not contacted after the first
stabbing (possibly because not all MUM guards are meditators and
definitely because an entry in the security log for a violent crime
would have to be reported in the school's annual report on campus
crime even if the police were not involved), an attempt was made to
contact the Director of Security, Bedinger, but he was busy with
other stuff. Sem clearly should not have been allowed contact with
students after his crazy and unprovoked assault, but the level of
disorder in MUM admin thinking does not allow this type of reasoning,
which is why, among other things, there are no pundits in the Vedic
City trailer park:

Not always, it's just something I and others have noticed. Sometimes
'leaving' is part of growth. There is really very little organization
left to leave.

Do you have reason to think it is not? Contact the IRS. They would LOVE

Aah, that's just omnivore propaganda:

You are right on the beam. Teaching in the field there never was any
tangible regional support. Occasional spurts of national publicity,
but no other support, just mandates. And it was run like commision
sales. When there wasn't enough for full-time support it was done from
devotion to an ideal. Very frustrating. Now there seems to be greater
success in this country in fund raising and long term real estate
investment. Is this happening elsewhere, besides Great Briton and hte US?

Actually, MMY has characterized CC as "merely normal," and
as "glorified ignorance."

All that CC is is when there is 24/7 presence of Self. The claim
that "I" and "me" goes away is either a mis-identification of CC with
extreme unstressing resulting in pathological derealization, or a
misinterpretation of what MMY is describing.

I don't know what the movement paid for the Blackstone, but real
estate is up everywhere, so they certainly did all right. But on the
other hand, when adjusted for inflation, and after paying taxes and
security and maintenance (which the TMO is famous for minimizing) for
years, it's unlikely to be a windfall in terms of real-dollar
appreciation. Lots of properties are going on the block -- probably
funds will go to building peace palaces, although having only 6 such
palaces per state, a minimum presence, at $3mil/per, amounts to $900
million, and all the sales over the last year probably do not amount
to more than $100 million or so:

Actually, it's a failure at many different levels... or is it?

If you assume that the only reason for the existance of the current
TM organization is to teach massive numbers of people as quickly
aspossible, you're correct. If you assume that the existence of the
TMO is to give people something to do until an infrastructure and a
core of "enlightened teachers" to go along with that infrastructure
is created, then maybe you're not correct.

As I said before, many years ago, Maharishi came up with the idea of
the Sidhi Parlement --a governing body for each local TM center
comprised of citizen sidhas and meditators, that would handle the
administrative side of running the TM center, while the TM teachers
would concentrate on teaching. It didn't work becuase many TM
teachers, at all levels, were control freaks who didn't want the loss
of power.

I personally had many ideas I thought were good and passed them up
the line to various people. Every now and then and idea would be
implemented immediately with good results. Other times, ideas were
ignored or implemented half-assed. Occassionally, I would get calls
from National asking for clarification about something, but for the
most part, the ideas were ignored.

Part of the problem is the TM teacher dynamic. MMY required all TM
teachers to be willing to give over all control to him regarding the
instruction of TM itself. Some TM teachers were able to maintain a
dual-personality --rigid adherence to the rules concerning
instruction, and flexability concerning everything else. Most TM
teachers were just rigid personalities period. In order to get
promoted within the TMorganization, you either had to be sucessful
outside the organization inthe first place and catch MMY's eye
directly, or were able to toe the party line well enough to fit into
the rigid power structure that grew around him because most people
couldn't be flexable in most things while being absolutely rigid in
one thing. Since "purity of the teaching" is and always has been
MMY's most important focus, he's been willing to tolerate less-than-
creative individuals because they're the ones most likely to follow
the "purity of the teaching" requirement, regardless.

It's a response to Chopra, I think. Chopra would never have stood for
such a thing. Abu-Nader is quite competent, as far as I can tell, but
he will never be able to set up a splinter organization based on his
own personal popularity outside the TM organization the way CHopra
could.

What is the purpose of the TMO?

[FairfieldLife] Blanched almonds

2005-06-15 Thread Alex Stanley
http://www.theomnivore.com/June_16_2005_Newsletter.html

ALMONDS PACK POTENT ANTIOXIDANT PUNCH

Don't blanche your almonds! In a new study published in this
month's Journal of Nutrition, USDA researchers have shown
that the antioxidants in almond skins and the vitamin E
inside almonds work together as a free radical-busting team.

Almond skins are known to contain antioxidants called
flavonoids, which are a large group of plant nutrients found
in wine, tea, fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids can act as
antioxidants, protecting our cells from oxidative damage.
They also can protect LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, from being
attacked by oxygen or oxidized (see my recent article on LDL
cholesterol to find out more about the importance of
oxidized LDL cholesterol:
http://www.theomnivore.com/LDL_May_2005.html . Additionally,
these plant nutrients are thought to protect the body from
the effects of aging.

"We have identified a unique combination of flavonoids in
almonds," said Jeffrey Blumberg, Ph.D., senior scientist and
director of the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at Tufts
University. "Further blood tests demonstrated that eating
almonds with their skins significantly increases both
flavonoids and vitamin E in the body. This could have
significant health implications, especially as people age."

The team at Tufts was able to test the effect of flavonoids
alone and then in combination with vitamin E. The results
suggest that vitamin E and the flavonoids in almond skins
work synergistically to prevent LDL cholesterol from being
oxidized. In fact, together vitamin E and almond flavonoids
were more than twice as effective as when they were
administered separately.

"Given that almonds are among the richest sources of vitamin
E in the diet and also provide an array of flavonoids, more
research should be done to understand the healthful
interaction of these plant nutrients in the human body and
the role of almonds in aging", says Dr. Blumberg.

The USDA researchers are hardly the first to show that
nutrients work most effectively when consumed along with
other synergistic nutrients. Their findings emphasize the
importance of eating a variety of fresh, natural foods and
taking a full spectrum of nutrients when supplementing. They
also provide further insight as to why fruit and
vegetable-enhanced diets have produced clinically
demonstrated reductions in cardiac and overall mortality,
while many attempts using supplementation with isolated
nutrients like vitamin E, vitamin C, and beta-carotene has
so far failed to do so.

I wonder how much of that brain weight loss was due to 19 days (or 11,
whatever it was) without water. I guess that the brain would be the
last to give up water but I don't know. Has it ever been studied?

Bob,
Do you know what the movement paid for the hotel?
Looks like it's a good time to sell movement real estate in the US.
Veda Land , Chicago and the few others that have been mentioned in the
last 6 or 8 months. Looks like the property purchased in the last
round of projects and fund raising is ripe to move.

That's your karma with Tom, not me! I call it "baby" because it is the first step in Consciousness awakening to itself. No more localization of consciousness. The localization produces the "I". There are still some pretty pernicious mental habits that the mind engages in (ala Suzanne Segal). Primarily it continues to seek a feeling of a limited self but nothing can be found.
On a more serious note, do you singularly define CC as "Cessation ofidentification of consciousness with mind. End of 'I' and 'me'"? Doyou feel "No I" is both nexcessary and sufficient to label theexperience "CC"?
The concepts that MMY uses to talk about CC are very effective in understanding the "experience" that has been present since that fine Spring day walking out of the dome. I don't think it is useful to label experiences like this as "being in" CC/GC/UC, etc.. But the concepts of these various states of consciousness are effective in deepening the understanding.
Without relying on dogmatic kneejerks, it does seemsthere are additional "attributes" along with or beyond the experienceof "No I".
Infinite flavors as it were.
Though as you know I am no fan or labeling any experience or personwith such labels, it seems that if one does enjoy that exercise, theymay be jumping the gun a bit to "ring the bell of Eureka" of CC simplewhen experience "no I". But as people often remind me that I knownothing, I tend to agree.

[FairfieldLife] Terri Schiavo

2005-06-15 Thread easyone200
What a surprise, all those wacky right to lifer' were wrong.
The autopsy of Terri Schiavo found no evidence that the severely brain-damaged
woman
was strangled or abused and that no amount of therapy would have reversed her
condition, a medical examiner said Wednesday.

She also was not abused by her husband, another favored ploy of the wack-pack
fundies.
The medical examiner said his examination turned up "no sign of abuse or
trauma" --
allegations leveled by Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, against
her
husband and legal guardian, Michael Schiavo.

The editing of 50 hours or so of video tape to get the phony "responses" of
Teri to
commands and her tracking eye movements are now seen as what they truly were,
the lies
and political side show of the christian right wing nuts. She had less than
half a brain and
no functioning visual cortex.

A report from a neuropathologist who served as a consultant to the autopsy said
Schiavo's
brain was "grossly abnormal and weighed only 615 grams [1.35 pounds]." Her
brain was
profoundly atrophied," he said. The vision center of her brain was dead, he said.
"This damage was irreversible," said Dr. Thogmartin. "No amount of therapy or
treatment
would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons."

I can however, understand why these fundies want to keep the Terri's of the
world alive. If
C.A.T. scans were taken of fundie church members brains they would look a
little too
much like.

Fine, but it’s a significant milestone – one which people often seem to reach when they’ve been meditating for decades and allow themselves to break free of conditioned beliefs and judgments.

[FairfieldLife] David Todt will clear stadium seats near mens dome

2005-06-15 Thread George DeForest
MUM Summer Projects Include Removal of Stadium Seats

An outside dining area, removal of the remaining stadium seats,
and other construction projects are planned for this summer.

According to project manager David Todt, removal of the hill
and old stadium seats east of the playing field will provide
a more attractive environment and allow the Maharishi Patanjali
Golden Dome and new men's residence halls to be more in accord
with principles of Maharishi Sthåpatya Veda(SM) design by
giving more exposure to the morning sun.

The earth removed from the site will be used in a new
housing development in Utopia Park.

The playing field has been reworked and seeded, and is
expected to be ready for use in the fall of 2006.
In the meantime, Bobby Warren Field north of campus
is being used for student athletic activities such as soccer.

Also planned is a fenced-in area on the west side of
the Student Union patio so students can have access to
outside dining without having to go all the way around
the north end of the building.

In other construction news, the new locker rooms in
the Recreation Center are now finished, with
lockers, showers, and attractive linoleum flooring.

Also, two more student houses have been completed
and are now occupied.

Future plans include repair of campus roads and sidewalks,
and construction of bike paths that will connect the
residence halls with the major buildings.

[FairfieldLife] TMO sells Chicago hotel

2005-06-15 Thread bbrigante
http://www.globest.com/news/306_306/chicago/135246-1.html

"Sage Hospitality Resources executive vice president Kenneth J. Geist
says his company has been attempting to acquire the hotel at 636 S.
Michigan Ave. for five years. The property has been vacant since 1999
as plans by Tennessee-based Maharishi Global Development Fund to
convert the building into about 100 luxury condominiums have fizzled.

Although Maharishi Global Development Fund has sought a much higher
price, according to the city's department of planning and
development, Sage Hospitality Resources has struck a deal to buy the
321,516-sf asset overlooking Grant Park for $22.3 million. Still,
city appraisals place the value of the hotel at $16 million to $19
million.

When complete, the appraised value of the Blackstone Hotel--the name
will be retained under the Marriott Renaissance flag--is likely to be
less than the total cost of Sage Hospitality Resources' project,
department of planning and development officials say. The building,
which has hosted several US presidents, is in a "severe state of
disrepair," they add. McHugh Construction and architect Lucien
LaGrange have been hired for the work. (more at link)

[FairfieldLife] account of MUM dining hall murder

2005-06-15 Thread bbrigante
http://www.ottumwacourier.com/site/news.cfm?brd=2575

By:ERIKA RICHARDS, Courier correspondent 06/15/2005

FAIRFIELD - Days and hours before attacking Levi Butler last year in
the campus dining hall, Maharishi University of Management classmates
had observed "unusual behavior" by Shuvender Sem, who was found not
guilty Monday in the first-degree murder death of Butler by reason of
insanity.
More details around the death of the MUM student last year became
available this week after the court released its written verdict
along with findings of fact in the case.
According to court documents, Butler and John Killian, who also was
attacked by Sem earlier in the day of March 1, 2004, were
acquaintances of Sem while Killian shared a dormitory with his
attacker.
Apparently, there was no prior dispute or disagreement between either
Killian or Butler and Sem and court documents reveal that there
appeared to be no warning or provocation at the time of the fatal
attack against Butler.
At about 2 p.m. that day, while attending an afternoon class at the
university, Sem assaulted Killian by stabbing him in the jaw with a
ballpoint pen, resulting in the later charge of assault to commit
serious injury.
Following the attack on Killian, Sem's professors removed him from
class and escorted him to an apartment for closer observation.
At about 6:40 p.m., without anyone's knowledge, Sem left the
apartment with a kitchen paring knife and went to the dining hall. He
was found eating dinner with other students.
Butler was eating his evening meal with another group of students a
few tables away from Sem. Near the end of the meal, Sem stood up and
moved to a seat next to Butler.
Shortly thereafter, and while Butler was visiting with Sem, Sem stood
up and yelled "What the [expletive] did you just say to me? What the
hell is going on?" and then attacked Butler.
Some of the witnesses closest to the scene thought Sem was just
punching Butler but it was not until they saw Butler grab his chest
and saw blood pouring from the wound that they realized he had been
stabbed.
Witnesses said that immediately after the attack, Butler looked very
confused, and then collapsed.
Sem appeared to be angry and excited and within seconds became very
calm and seemed to be smiling with a "vacant" look on his face and at
one point said, "I'm sorry, really sorry," according to those
witnesses.
One of the students held Sem from behind until police investigators
arrived.
Police say that when he was detained in the patrol car, Sem was
crying and then seconds later, he had a big smile on his face.
After being transported by emergency personnel to the Jefferson
County Hospital, Butler was unresponsive, not breathing on his own,
and died at 8:30 p.m.
Other psychiatric reports said that Sem had engaged in unusual
behaviors in the approximately six weeks that he had been on campus.
He would often engage in sudden outbursts of aggression which were
surprising and confusing to other students.
Judge E. Richard Meadows Monday accepted the conclusions from both
the prosecution and defense that Sem was insane when he stabbed
Butler and ordered Sem to be committed to the Oakdale Correctional
Facility for further treatment and evaluation.

What is your definition of "awakening" ?

Yup, what he said. Re-examination of concepts that have 'grooved' into
the mind, breaks them thar' boundries or allows the concepts to become
much subtler.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Lenz -- Sex and Business Practices / Ethics

2005-06-15 Thread Ingegerd
For the last 20 years, TM-Teachers in Norway have had a lot of good
ideas to develop the TMO in a good direction, to develop a healthy
administration and organisation. The vision has been to increase the
number of initiations and groups of sidhas, work together in a
democratic way in different projects. I think this has been happening
in other countries too. It has been useless, because the hierarchi in
the TMO is so rigid. It is almost impossible to come through with new
ideas, especial when it comes to administration and organisation.
Questioning that, you were looked upon as you were a 6-year old child
or mental retarded. Everything is decided from the International TMO,
where MMY is on the top. We have blamed the National Leaders for not
doing their jobs for years, but they have only been acting by the will
of the International TMO and/or MMY.
Now, when I am the outside the TMO, I can in some way look at what
happened with me in the TMO from a distance. It was too much stress and
frustration and failed projects and I do not feel that was good for my
raise of consciousness. To be inside a rigid framework and not allowed
to use the creativity, felt like a great loss for me. And I think that
is one of the reasons that many TM-Teachers left the TMO, most of them
very disappointed, some of them with broken neck. The teaching part is
great - the knowledge is great - but the framework is wrong. In the
early days MMY was emphasising the importance to use the creativity. He
used to compare it with the monotonous work in fabrics - which was a
hindrance for creativity. The TM-Teachers from the early days was very
devoted to the knowledge and MMY and they was very creative and the
Movement blossomed. I do not know whose creativity is blossoming now,
because what is happening with malls and kings and rajas is far behind
my fantasy.
But my creativity is blossoming outside the TMO.I am more fullfilled
outside than inside the TMO.

Or perhaps, the desire to step away was a sign that they were
awakening? Or perhaps, their awakening isn't really?

People with AIDS, cancer, and other terminal illnesses who take a "I
don't care what happens to others, *I* am going to get well" stance,
are far more likely to live longer and healthier than those who "face

Likewise with people who are "over the hill" and start something new,

Of course, MMY said from the getgo that experiences aren't important,
at least in general, and taht sharing experiences makes everyone else
either envious, confused or feeling in competition. That always made
sense to me, but I guess if you disagree with his entire way of

Not essential for everyone, but some get very bound up in concepts and
judgments, which holds them back. When the step away from the TMO, the
distance, plus new experiences, enables them to unravel those concepts and
judgments. For some, this is all that's needed to trigger awakening.
