My suggestion for the new name is based on the strong possibility that humans will be so short-sighted, stupid, and greed-driven that they'll bring an end to their own species within a few short years as the result of climate change and self-poisoning. OK, my bad. I clicked on the wrong folder and the email below opened, far enough that I caught a glimpse of the pasted-in Rama blurb below. That was a real blast from the past, and caused me to laugh out loud for some time. So because I'm still chuckling I think I'll actually address this particular instance of let's-try-to-paint-Barry-as-a-cultist-so-people-will-ignore-him-calling-us-cultists stuff from Jim and Richard. :-) I *was* a cultist, for the time I was a part of the Rama group. No question about it. It was a cult, Fred was its cult leader, and I was a cultist. I have No Problem saying any of this, because it's all true. That said, that was then and this is now. I bailed from Rama's study a couple of years before he died, and before some of the *really* crazy shit went down. I last saw this silly demand for a monthly summary shortly before I bailed from the group. Why I laughed so hard seeing it again is that laughter was my reaction when I *first* saw it. I laughed, and then I promptly ignored it. I had, in fact, been teaching basic meditation for the guy, and really enjoying doing the teaching for free, both in the US and in Amsterdam. But I really *didn't* like one aspect of the way he'd set up the teaching thang -- he'd made it competitive. The purpose of teaching became not just to teach people how to meditate (which was cool in my opinion), but to urge them to become full-time students with Rama (which was not). Furthermore, if you found such students, they became your apprentices (a la Castaneda), and you had to run their day-to-day study, and be kinda responsible for them. If you got ten apprentices, you got a spiritual name. Really. Hey, I told you it was a cult. :-) Anyway, I was already partly out the door, so when I heard all this shit about apprentices my first thought was, Yeah, like that's gonna happen. I'll just teach for the fun of teaching and if any of my students feel like continuing with it I'll turn them over to one of the other teachers. And that's what I did. I never sent in a single one of these silly reports because I never considered myself part of the apprentice thang. With one exception -- a girlfriend I introduced to Rama and who subsequently studied with him for some time -- I have never been more instrumental in soliciting anyone deciding to study with him than being the person who gave their intro lecture. But to bring this whole diversion (for that is what it is) back into the present, I really wish that Richard, Jim, and a few others would leave off this try-to-get-to-me-by-bringing-up-Rama shit. It's old, and it's based on your *own* cult thinking and how *your* minds work, not how mine works. You guys IDENTIFY WITH your time with Maharishi, and with being part of his group, or of being a teacher for him. A great deal of your own personal spiritual story revolves around this identification. So when someone such as myself or Michael makes fun of Maharishi or says what we really think about his teachings, you get all defensive. By attacking him, you feel as if we are attacking you, and you get your buttons pushed. So you try to do the same thing to me, trying to push my buttons by making fun of Rama or criticizing him. But I really don't IDENTIFY with Rama or with that time any more. It's really just a part of the past, something that I walked away from over 18 years ago. I don't give a shit what Willytex makes up or that anyone else posts about Rama. He's dead, and I walked away from him two years before he died. What you think of him doesn't interest me in the slightest, and it doesn't push any of my buttons. I don't feel the need to defend him, and never have. I similarly don't feel the need to apologize for any of the time I spent with him. Much of that time was cutting-edge, hang-ten spiritual practice, with access to experiences you people never got a glimpse of within the TM movement. And yes, some of these experiences were a little odd and out of the ordinary, like witnessing levitation and invisibility and stuff like that. But it all really happened. Or at the very least I saw it happen. End of story. It was fun for a long time, and when it stopped being fun I beat feet. John, it's not just prayer but repentance. Changing from those *wicked* ways. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Joseph prescribed a formula for His people to live by. If they strayed, they would lose His favor or protection. We see the same as a nation being in tune with dharma with support of nature or becoming adharmic and losing the support of nature. This doesn't occure over a period of a few years but over generations and we are currently becoming more and more adharmic. We no longer, as a nation, think of what we can do for our country, but what is our country going to do for *me*. Politicians exploit this *me first* mentality at the expense of the whole. Divide and conquer and the nation falls apart. I don't have much in the way of movies to recommend this month because most all I have been watching have been horror films. That's because I hang out with a group on a forum that tries to watch a horror film each night in October to celebrate 31 Days of Halloween. Most films I watch would not be for the faint of heart here. But one from Turq's former country of residence, Spain, is actually more of a dark comedy and called Witching and Bitching. Sounds like FFL doesn't it? But it's about a heist in Madrid and how the crooks escape to a small town and learn it is run by witches. Lots of comedy of errors. It's on Netflix WI. Been catching Gracepoint to see what they do with it over the original, Broadchurch which played last year on BBC America. Features a lot of scenery from Ann's neck of the woods despite the New York State credit at the end. According to a member of another forum I'm on who did the special effect New York credit is there because it's being edited there and they get a tax rebate for that. It's mostly shot on Vancouver Island with some second unit done near Santa Cruz, California. The cliffs in the show are all his companies work as a special effect. It's on FOX. Finished up Intruders which was intriguing. Read that there will be no third season of Utopia ... for Brits unless maybe there is one on HBO. Sykes to send a firm message that CAFOs [concentrated animal feeding operations] will not be tolerated in Jefferson County,” said Diane Rosenberg Wednesday night at the Jefferson County Farmers and Neighbors annual meeting at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center. Rosenberg is JFAN’s executive director. Her comments come after founding JFAN board member and president Jim Rubis announced his retirement Oct. 1. “I’d really like to see the whole JFAN organization be able to retire,” Rubis said, receiving an ovation from audience members. Additionally, five new board members were elected. “Their [new board members] increased energy and new ideas will more than make up for my departure,” Rubis said. Rubis served as president of JFAN for nine years. However, Rubis wasn’t the only one who ignited passion in the crowd. In a rousing introduction, master of ceremony and JFAN board member John Ikerd said family farmers are being deceptively used to give the illusion that CAFOs are the next step in the evolutionary process of family farms. “Farming is not a way to make money it’s a way of life,” Ikerd said, adding that CAFOs create toxic waste and threaten clean water and air. He told audience members that “2,500-head-of-hogs create as much bio-waste as a town with 8,500. CAFOs are inherently inhumane. Just because something is legal doesn’t make it ethically right.” Keynote speaker Wenonah Hauter, executive director of Food Water Watch and the author of “Foodopoly: The Battle over the Future of Food and Farming in America,” said farmers are not to blame when it comes to CAFOs. “Blame goes on the political system; Small farmers can’t make a living,” she said, adding that many small family farms make between $12,000 and $25,000 per year. Hauter said in 1996 under President Bill Clinton, there was a domestic push to change farm policy that resulted in the elimination of the National Grain Reserve devised by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to assist farmers during The Great Depression. “Cheap feed helped bring CAFOs to life,” she said, citing that in 1992 large factory farms made up only 30 percent of total U.S. farms, but by 2007 the percentage had climbed to 95 percent. “We should have a vibrant system where young people should be able to inherit their family’s farm,” she said. Hauter also revealed striking power imbalances existing throughout the food industry, citing many food giants gaining greater legislative control by merging with other large firms. “There is no emphasis on long term sustainability. It’s all about mergers and food companies getting bigger,” she said. “Billions are spent in lobbying, not to mention what’s spent on campaign donations.” Additionally, farmers make only 2 cents from every consumer dollar spent on products containing high-fructose corn syrup. The lion’s share of it, 90 percent, goes to the company that processes and markets the product. “We have to take political action in the end if we’re going to change the structure of our nation,” she implored. Mayor Ed Malloy, Sen. Curt Hanson and Jefferson County Supervisor Becky Schmitz along with several other lawmakers were in attendance Wednesday. The guest panel, made up of attorneys, JFAN board members and other sustainable farming advocates, included Eric Swafford, director of world development and outreach for the Humane Society of the United States. Swafford doled out free 300-page coffee table books depicting the treatment of animals housed in CAFOs. “It’s a kind of disgusting book,” Swafford said. “But it educates consumers on the importance of where their food comes from.” Also in attendance were more than 200 CAFO complainants involved in active cases. Sykes urged audience members to be proactive in their responses to CAFOs. “We are under a

Exactly like my experience with TM and Maharishi. :-) Now back to ignoring these folks... From: fleetwood_macncheese@... The rest of the year the 31 Days thread rates and reviews horror films we've seen. It's a fun group. Most recently folks said that we didn't need to watch any movies for 31 days of horror, just the evening news. Looking at the archives apparently it was Salvyavin who alerted us to Utopia and you thought I would like it because of the conspiracy in it. I couple months back I bought the UK Bluray from a forum member in the extras Dennis Kelly, the creator of the show, said he was inspired by all the conspiracy theories around. Unfortunately Channel 4 announced they wouldn't be releasing a Bluray of season 2 because of poor sales of season 1. I hope HBO keeps the aspect ratio, color grading and no close-ups. That apparently will be up to David Fincher who is doing the HBO version. I also wouldn't be surprised if it launches the same time Game of Thrones since Utopia grabs a different fan base. That's because I hang out with a group on a forum that tries to watch a horror film each night in October to celebrate 31 Days of Halloween. How cool. I did a similar thing a couple of times with a bunch of Browncoats (Joss Whedon fanboys) I only knew from the Net. We'd watch episodes of Firefly or the film Serenity or Dollhouse on successive nights -- all the way through the whole series -- and then rap about it. Real TV series nerd stuff, but at the same time really, really fun if you're into the genre or show or movie you're binge-watching. I will definitely look for it. I can't wait, in fact, to discover which small town they think is full o' witches. Broadchurch was interesting, so I can see myself checking out what they do with this remake of it. Finished up Intruders which was intriguing. I stalled on that one, and can't tell you why. I started it, but then lost interest and now have to go back and watch it all from the beginning. Read that there will be no third season of Utopia ... for Brits unless maybe there is one on HBO. As for HBO it has been announced that next year (I bet in time for Game of Thrones) a cable or satellite subscription won't be needed to see shows using HBO GO. Apparently HBO viewers in Sweden already have this. Belated thanks on this one, BTW. I was busy with a work project, and would possibly not have noticed the second season of this series if you hadn't mentioned it. It took me a LONG time to get to it, but I just finished binge-watching it, so thank you, thank you, thank you. Very dark and Not For Buck in many, many ways, and to some extent Not For Americans in many more ways, but really interesting. Well, Happy Halloween and don't let the eBullies get ya! Re: [FairfieldLife] Billy Graham: America is Just as Wicked...
Now, to the substance of what you said, which was an admission that you were in a cult, and followed a cult leader, Dr. Freddie Lenz. You are always vague, about what that meant. First off, it means you spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, of YOUR MONEY, for this guy. He received $4,000 a MONTH, from you, Barry. Big bucks. He ran your life. You were like his child, or his puppy, and you paid dearly for the times he would deign to be your friend. You say it was about the great experiences Rama gave you, but what about the awful behaviors he taught you? What about this excessive paranoia, and aggrandizement, of yours, that others suck energy from you, and that you vibrate faster, and are more sensitive, due to your looking through a different Lenz? Focusing on portals of time and space, when you should be finishing your sandwich? Freddie was the one who puffed you up, and made you feel special. He was the one who spoon-fed you, your belief system, the fragments of which, you trot out here, on too regular a basis. And at the end of the day, what has he left you with? This Hang Ten master? Nothing, except your misplaced bitterness at Maharishi, and the need to work, at an age when the rest of us can simply follow our dreams. Conclusion: You got fucked, royally, psychologically, financially, and socially, by Freddie. Its about time, you started getting over it. Your routine of dumping all your frustration, on those who largely got it right, and are living vibrant and successful lives, doesn't help you at all. Here's another snippet, of life with Lenz, in case you have forgotten: Around the end of January, 1990, Rama told his group he wanted one hundred and twenty of them to pay him two hundred and fifty thousand dollars by March 21, 1991. That group would be called Infinity Plus Consulting. He suggested they complete a consulting company, that they could set one up to earn one or two million a year. One hundred and twenty students had to come up with $50,000 in a year. That group would be called National Personal and Professional. Those who could not come up with $50,000 could go back to the regular group. He could raise your power and give you more energy. Then the higher you can go spiritually. Rama told them he was tired of amateur cultists and they should see if they could do it. Come up with the money, or, when you die, you will go to hell. In March Rama started a new company and took eighty of his most aggressive students on a desert trip. He talked about the money he wanted from the students by March of 1991. Last June he raised the monthly cost to $4,000 and also $1,000 a month for having dinner with Rama. He always wanted a cashier's check or cash for payment. He said money had bad vibrations, especially small bills. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, turquoiseb@... wrote : OK, my bad. Mike D, IMO, what you're saying is the same as attaining unity consciousness, although Pastor Graham would be expressing it in a more traditional--albeit archaic--way. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, mdixon.6569@... wrote : John, it's not just prayer but repentance. Fleetwood, Barry is saying that he's now a Buddhist, a non-theist, and apparently happy to be one. But for how long?

You are either all in with his negative assertions about the TMO, and MMY, or you are cultist. If you get some time, give it some thought. From: fleetwood_macncheese@... Remember how W. and Chaney lied because there never were WMD's in Iraq? Heh Heh. Didn't you read the NYT article? They found over 5000 individual bombs and artillery shells with mustard gas and sarin gas. They were NOT all found much less destroyed before Barack Hussein Ebola ordered US troops out of the country. Anbar provice is still full of undocumented caches of these supplies. ISIS rules most of Anbar, so they may try to use these WMD to strike Baghdad. After all - this is what you get from a neo-marxist.
