Well I'm going to take my imbecelic, hyperbolic, racist, tasteless,
culturally ignorant, good-ole boy, American, half-smart white ass off

Go back and reread the thread.

Well we appear to have different views on that. Surprise.

What if its an equal proportion? Does that change the point?

hmm, not sure about that. But I will reread and see.

But the important thing is we agree we both have slung a lot of
hyperbole and name calling tonight. Not a good trait, do you agree?

That you cannot distinguish between humor (perhaps tasteless) of my
comments, and the rascist, culturally ignorant of your own (definately
tasteless) is revealing.

> Would you like behead me

Though a presumed joke (haha, you are SOOO funny),such comments appear
to refelct the deep saturation of your racism and cultural ignorance.
In your view, do all muslims favor beheadings? Is GW Bush therefore a
muslim? ("bring me osamas head on a stick") Do non-muslims who argue
against cultural and ethnic biases also favor beheadings?

> The Raghead comment was Peter's I believe not mine.

Yes I got that. And that it was satire. As were my "raghead" and
"goat-fucking arab" satirizations of what I feel lurks deep in heart
of many americans.

Yes, I got that. I believe only an imbecile would not. Or that my
"raghead" comments were also satire.

Your logic is vastly confused or at least confusing.

Who killed who? Did the muslims kill the cartoonists?
Are you saying the gang beating would never result in death?
Are you saying its ok to insult people and cultures if they just beat
the shit out of you, but not if they kill you?

You said, "What do you do when someone makes it clear that they will
kill you and your family and friends, while yelling God is great?"

I was attempting to portray, via satire, a good ol'boy american view,
held by a higher proportion of americans --in their guts -- than the
number of muslim extremists that you portray -- as a percentage of all
muslims. And this higher percentage good ol boy view is that they are
willing to and support killing a lot of innocent muslims and their
family and friends, while yelling "Jesus Saves".

When seen from that perspective, your hyperbole and racist rhetoric
becomes even more baseless.

There is a 'level difference' between beating the shit out of you and
killing you for your poor taste.

I am saying every culture has its "hot buttons". Its not an issue of
comparing and ranking them. But it is an issue of understanding and
respecting them, of having some respect for all cultures.

Which after all this, you appear to still have little. You still spin
the defamation of Islam as "a cartoon". (Like Barney. Who doesnt like
cartoons. La de da.) Do you understand that any graphic or iconic
representation of the Prophet is forbidden in many sects of Islam?

To you, would pissing on a crucifix at high mass at the vatican just
be "a call of nature"?

What's the point of all this drivel...If you don't have anything to
discuss why bother writing. Watch the BBC documentary that Barry
posted about. Ayman Z. believes that terror and killing innocents is a
valid stratagy in pursuing his goals. He has pursued this for over 30
years. My writing may not clearly convey my thoughts, but you're
painting with an awfully broad brush yourself.

Ah, you are sickened by the US blowing up innocents in Iraq also.
Far more than were killed in the twin towers.

btw, what muslim said "cartoons of the prophet are more defamitory
than blowing innocents up"? I missed that. Was it on "Fuck-Ragheads
TV"? A favorite of yours I bet.

I think a more fair and balanced view is that most muslims are
disgusted with both the defamanation of the Prophet and US blowing up
innocents, and anyone blowing up innocents. Some are undoubtedly
disgusted with anyone blowing up anyone.

To get into a comparative analysis of which is more disgusting would
seem a rather stupid question to most muslims, I would guess. Probably
asked or posed by some imbecelic american, they might guess.

I don't understand. You're compairing the deaths of 6,000,000+ with

Ok Thanks for the clarification. When I visited Oslo, the point was
made about the king to me. I was not sure how "real" it was.

> Sometimes you need jokes
> about "holy" things or dogmas simply to put an eye on it - to maybe
> start a process of discussion and through discussions make changes.

I agree humor and satire can, in appropriate circumstances, be good
discussion starters. And help people see more sides of an issue. But
not always in all circumstances. Its not always effective. There is a
time and place for humor.

In my view, the editors of the magazine that published the cartoons
are imbeciles with no cultural sensitivity. Its "free speech" just as
yelling fire in a theatre is, or yelling "niggers" to a crowd
assembled to protest a beating of a black by a police officer. Not all
free speech is protected in the US. When it is, it can sometimes be an
exercise in stupidity.

Free speech does not protect one from the consequences of poor taste,
imbecilic outbursts, or culturally ignorant explosive speech. For
example, If I see a group of latino youths and I shout "your sisters a
whore", its protected free speech. But I must bear the consequences of
having the shit beat out of me for my poor taste.

No, I was compairing the response to the supposed "highest defamation
of a world religion". Several world religions actually. The odd thing
is that they can actually convince us that cartoons of the prophet are
more defamitory than blowing innocents up.

The stand-up comedian have making jokes of the King for years. It is
not looked at as a crime at all in Norway. Sometimes you need jokes
about "holy" things or dogmas simply to put an eye on it - to maybe
start a process of discussion and through discussions make changes.

The point being, (since there are those among us that have a hard time
seeing satire) if someone said this on TV, or your local town square,
there certainly would be protests, and likely riots.

And yet the Poindexters among us just don't get whats the fuss over "a
cartoon". And why those ("ill-bred"? --is that the word you were
looking for Johhny?) muslims insist on violence. Why can't they be
peaceful, like the US, the MOST peaceful land, peaceful people, and
peace-promoting government on earth, ever.

The point being, (since there are those among us that have a hard time
seeing satire) the US and its policies have killed far more arab
families than muslim extremists.

Johny, when was the last time a muslim MADE IT CLEAR to you personally
that they will kill YOU and YOUR family and friends, while yelling
God is great?

Ok. It never happend. But maybe you will be safer if we kill 50,000 or
100,000 more muslim families. So you can "sleep" better. (Though you
seem to be "sleeping" through it pretty good already.)

You do know Osama has a reward on his head, by the US, for far more
than that, don't you. And Bush asked for his head, literally. They
even had the dry ice stored up for the occasion. So I guess you are
not complaining about the barbarism of bounties and behadings. Your
issue appears to be that if ones religion or sacred tbings are
severely defiled (in the devotee's eyes -not yours who apparently know
nothing of Islam), it is too small an offense for "bounty and behadings".

I tend to agree. But most americans, and the current gov't don't.
Think about it:

If the Iranian or Syrian presidents, exercising freedom of speech, on
prime time TV:
- pissed on a cricifix and a picture of the Virgin Mary,
- while buring a US and UK flag,
- and called Laura and Jenna Bush "my former whores" -- and detailed
his alleged sexual acts with them,
- called the Holacasut a hoax,
- spray painted a swastika on the Star of David,
-called for legalization of all drugs,
-called for $200 / barrel oil,
-announced he had iron-clad proof of Bush/Cheney war crimes,
-said all american women are skanks,
-said the Beatles sucked,
-called for a renewal of "biblical" slavery,
-said blacks were inferior,

he would have a 11.5 BILLION dollar reward for his head -- and his
country would be bombed off the face of the map. So much for free
speech. And while some in neutral countries would simply say "whats
the fuss, "sticks and stones and all" and "its just words on a page,
bits on a screen -- nothing worse than a cartoon", most americans
would call for the bombing of such, in their words "heathen barbarians".

Hell the US invaded Iraq because the gov't convinced a majority
ofpeople that "Saddam bombed the World Trade Center." They don't even
need real reasons to invade a country. The above would be way more
than enough "justifiction" once the spinmasters hyped it.

OK then. Lets bomb the shit out of them raghead camel jockeys with
cruise missles painted with big "Jesus Saves" on them, until they
adopt a constitution and have real democracy like us and they can have
the right to be stupid, crude, rude and barbaric as a constitutional
right. (Oh, we just did that in Iraq). Then they can say "the
holocasut never happened" "drive israel into the sea" "kill all
christians" and "lets go blow upsome more skyscappers" with impunity.
Right? I am with you bro.

Of course not silly. They write it on their crusie missles. The real
God gives his real chosen people real weapons to bomb the shit out of
non-believers. Not just silly ariplanes.

Just like the Jews have no sense of humor about the Holocaust I guess.
And Christains -- can't they take a joke. The crucification was
hilarious. So "Very bewildering, and upsetting."

This is sick. You are somehow justifying mass publication of the
highest defamation of a world religion because some fool in goverment
does a stupid thing?

But the US usualy acts in a far more dignified way. It simply bombs
the shit out of offender of its "sacred" views. Or has the gov't over
thrown.

result.

You either misread my comment about the Brits and royalty or I wrote
it poorly. I didn't say that there are serious consequences and great
offense will be taken if one insults the British royal family while
in London. After all that has occured my sense is the Brits do quite a
bit joking about their royals and no one is thrown in jail.

But lets focus on the US and US culture. I assume you are a yank.
In most of the 20th century, blacks were lynched, beaten, churches and
homes were bombed, basic rights were denied, etc and all for acts, or
imagined acts, most of the world would think trivial: blacks violated
the sacred code of white suopremecy and highly detailed sacred codes
of conduct of segregation and apartheid. Bombing a few embassies
hardly compares to that multi-century oppression.

The US overtly or covertly overthrew democratically governements in
Chile (Allende), Vietnam (Diem), Iran(predecessor to the Shaw),
Gautamala (I believe it was an elected govt there) and supported
brutal and corrupt dictators for decades-- all because tenets of a US
sacred code of their foreign policy was seen or imagined to be
violated. "Violations" that much of the rest of the world saw as
non-existent -- or small enough to be dealt with in other much less
brutal ways. Bombing a few embassies hardly compares.

Many other examples of US violence around the world because they
perceived something "sacred" to them, though "trivial" to most of the
world, being disrespected.

I could go on with the Christian Right, the horrendous brutality of
the Catholic (and other) church(es) over the centuries, who can forget
the Crusades, -- much of which was instigated by something sacred in
Christiandom being violated -- things much of the world saw as small
potatoes. Bombing a few embassies is begining to look like a peaace
march in comparison.

And lets not forget -- the bombing a few embassies at this stage ofthe
current issue is more of a governemnt stirring up dissent for
political purposes -- not mosque generated dissent.

Ok. To be insensitive to another culture and disrespect their sacred
things, for whatever reasons -- is the height -- or
depth -- of stupidity, crudeness, rudeness, and barbarianism.

First, no one is giving out good conduct awards for people rioting in
the streets. Actually, per above, few driven by pure religious
sentiments apppear to be rioting. Its governments whipping up the

Did the rioters riot because Rodney King was beaten or was there some
other issue goingon auch that Rodney king was used as an excuse to
riot by peoplealready primed for such actions?

Actually from what I have read, at least 3 of the cartoons that where
shopped around the muslim world by the Imam where NOT published in the
Danish newspapers. They were particularly inflamatory meant to unite
the radical elements...

"Piss Christ" did not rake ol' JC over the coals,
nor was Chris Ofili's gorgeous "Holy Virgin Mary"
an insult to the Blessed Mother; to the contrary.

Both artists received death threats.

You mean like TV networks consciously refusing to show images of

No, that's what conservative diva Ann Coulter calls them.

Not true.

I thought that burning the flag was constitutionally protected.

It pisses many people off when it happens but they don't kill you
over it.

As for Jesus, well, I don't know where you've been for the past 30
years...Ole' JC is raked over the coals in the USA on a daily basis.

Piss Christ is not an isolated incident...

Yes, I agree it is all those things.

BUT the right to be stupid, crude, rude and barbaric should be
constitutionally protected.

Bingo!

All else aside, have they no sense of irony? A cartoon depicts their
religion as violent, so in protest they bomb embassies and call for
the head of the cartoonist.

Very bewildering, and upsetting.

Flags ARE burned, crucifixes ARE immersed in urine, but no one offers

I didn't say their beliefs were trivial.

My point was to make the cartoon so ubiquitous they don't have a
target, much in the way the Danish people did when the Nazis required
Jews to wear the Star of David: the whole population, including the
Kind, wore the Star of David on their clothes. If everyone's doing it,
it might get a little harder to find the target you want to hate.

There's a difference between disrespect and sacrilege. You can
disrespect another's religion but only commit a sacrilege in your own.
Those rioting in protest against the cartoon are opposing it as a
great religious travesty, a sacrilege. Which is de facto imposing
their religious standards on non-Muslims.

"...burn some flags, drag some
> crucifixes through urine, deface some Stars of David with swastikas,
> and burn some crosses on every block across the US. "

All those are examples of physical acts, some of which have been
associated with considerable violence. That's a far cry from
publishing a cartoon, which is an editorial comment.

I agree it is in bad taste and disrespectful, but the violence and
riots upon its publication do nothing to undermine the assumptions
that prompted it.

Many cultures have sacred symbols, or sinful acts -- that often seem
trivial to other cultures. Creating an image of Mohammad -- in Islam
is one of the latter. Seems odd to many christians. Hey its just a
cartoon. But let the same see a US flag burned, and they are ready to
nuke the perpetrators. Another culture says, its just a piece of
cloth, why the fuss?

In Norway, as I recall, its an intolerable crime to insult the king,
even as a joke.. More so in Thailand as I recall, where you can get
into serious trouble by doing so. Hard for Americans to "get" that --
they joke about the royal family in UK and elsewhere all the time --
seeing kings as antiquated throwbacks of tyranny.

But damn, mess with that flag -- or say something unholy about Jesus
-- and your ass is fried. Lots of other examples -- Jewish Holy land,
Hindu sacred cows and temple sites (adhoya sp?), cutting a sikhs hair,
etc.

To be insensitive to another culture and disrespect their sacred
things -- "because it seems trivial to us" -- is the height -- or
depth -- of stupidity, crudeness, rudeness, and barbarianism.

To say "I think every news channel and newspaper in the world should
publish the cartoon, including the ones in Muslim countries. If the
fanatics have too many targets it will be the same as no targets"
marks you as the above.

But hey, maybe you have a point. Lets go burn some flags, drag some
