The dialogue between Jerry Senfeld and Jay Leno isn't "quick-witted banter
between fast-thinking comedians" , thank Lord, but a real conversation between
two people in a car and in a coffe-shop. More like a conversation between
friends that don't have to compete to be the most "quick-witted ". Quite
resfreshing.

Well, that will certainly discourage those who might have been inspired by your
review (but not by Nabby's original recommendation) to watch the clips.

 Opsie...

I was actually hoping for some quick-witted banter between fast-thinking
comedians, but Nooo. Color me so disappointed that I'm not going to turn
Nabby's links above back into links, so that other people don't waste their
precious time like I did...

Ah yes, it was David Letterman I was referring to, also a very funny guy :-)

Have to run for work, will watch it when time. The Kramer interview wasn't as
"nimble" and quick as the one with Jay Leno who took off in all directions and
was really funny. We don't get his shows over here, only occasionally the other
fellow from New York but I admit he seems to be a very funny guy. As you know
I'm not saying that just because he's a long-time TM'er :-)

Not to offend, Nabby, but this was one of the clips I watched. I turned
it off midway through.

When it comes to comedians, I like "mental quickness," being able to
springboard off of someone else's thoughts and words and just "run with
it." I saw only a few moments of this in the clips I watched. The other
person -- whether it was Jerry or one of his guests -- jumped on the
"improv cue" and ran with it, but never for more than a couple of
exchanges each. Then they petered out and couldn't continue.

I guess what "set the bar" for me for comedy was watching people like
Robin Williams, who is simply a "brain on fire" in some of his
exchanges. He can "wing it" like no one else I've ever met (with, oddly
enough, a near-exception being made for the Rama guy, who was also
lightning-fast in his mental reflexes, and sometimes just as funny).
Here's a little example, from a heavily-edited version of the bit Robin
did on "Inside The Actors Studio." The show is normally an hour long;
Robin's episode was two hours long, because he just took over and "ran
with it," and the result was too good to edit down to an hour. This edit
shows a few examples of the quickness I'm looking for in "comedy
repartee." If you don't have time for the full edited clip, start at
about the 9 minute mark, where Robin demonstrates what it's like to
think like him. :-)

As synchronicity would have it, I ran out of other interesting things to
watch just a couple of days ago, and out of curiosity watched a few of
these CICGC clips. I had downloaded them a while ago after reading an
interview with Jerry Seinfeld in which he said a few things I thought
were interesting. Sadly, he seems to have said everything interesting he
has to say *in* that interview, because he certainly didn't come up with
anything in the clips I watched.

My fault, actually, for even watching. I knew going into it that it
would in one sense be re-runs of "Seinfeld," with a bunch of
self-obsessed people talking about themselves as if we should find them
interesting just because they find themselves interesting. But I
foolishly thought that a few of the people might actually *be*
interesting. Bzt. Out of about a dozen of these clips I watched, the
only guests I found the least bit interesting were Ricky Gervais and
Tina Fey.

I was actually hoping for some quick-witted banter between fast-thinking
comedians, but Nooo. Color me so disappointed that I'm not going to
turn Nabby's links above back into links, so that other people don't

This is NOT an "anti-TM thing," as Nabby and others will try to
characterize it, BTW. I have nothing against Seinfeld or Leno (although
the latter has much better taste in cars). I was actually hoping for
better, which is why I downloaded the clips in the first place. Leno was
actually "fast on his feet" mentally in ways that Seinfeld never
approached in the clip of them I watched. It's just that my reaction to
all of it was just like my reaction to seeing an old episode of
"Seinfeld" these days: "What on EARTH must I have been thinking to have
liked this stuff back then? My standards must have been really low."
