I have 2 sources of info on this issue, both of them very honorable
men. My father was part of the central committee planning the final
invasion of Japan. He was always a big supporter of the decision to
bomb as he was aware of the official predicted casualty figures for
the invasion, which I don't remember exactly, but over a million
japanese and over 100,000 americans. My other source is a former
business associate who led the first marine division into japan after
the 2 bombs fell. He said the japanese had no real defenses left,
guns but no ammo, not as much will as believed. He feels the invasion
casualty figures were way too high.
I think the US felt the bombing would obviously save american lives
and possibly more japanese lives than an invasion. Sending a message
to the russians was clearly there, but I feel secondary.

was some sort of evil aggressor in WWII. You know
nothing of history. Japan recieved two very well
deserved nuclear bombs that brought WWII to a rapid
halt and saved probably millions of American (and
Japanese lives) by curtailing an invasion of Japan.
I'm proud to part of a country that dropped two big
ones on those slanty-eyed, fanatical slopes.

And don't forget, we REALLY REALLY wanted to play with our new 'toy'. By willing such a thing such as an atomic bomb into existence, the pseudo-owner, the small self, is then bound by desire to bring it to fruition. Tricky little devil as it is, the ego will then make up endless justification to ensure the fulfillment of its desire, in this case, explode an atomic weapon over a civilian area. provides a very tempting carrot to use the weapon simply because it

have mostly all been used. It's inevitable. The Romans used a wide
variety of clever catapaults, spear launchers, fiery tar bombs, etc;
as shown in the opening scene of the movie Gladiator. Thus, not
right or wrong overall; but simply INEVITABLE.

The dropping of the Bombs was unnecessary. It was done to scare the

How can you be so naive as to assume the United States
was some sort of evil aggressor in WWII. You know
nothing of history. Japan recieved two very well
deserved nuclear bombs that brought WWII to a rapid
halt and saved probably millions of American (and
Japanese lives) by curtailing an invasion of Japan.
I'm proud to part of a country that dropped two big
ones on those slanty-eyed, fanatical slopes.
