So do geologists feel that we might have another quake any time soon? I
heard that this one made church bells in Boston ring. I wonder what it would
do to Fairfield, or St. Louis, which isn't built to earthquake code.

I doubt if scientists know whether there is going to be a New Madrid
fault quake soon. Thie official line is that there is such-and-such a
probability of a quake happening now, but that's based on the
historical record, and knowledge of all the actual factors (not
merely based on historical inference) involved in a quake are just
not available:

A damaging earthquake in this area (6.0 or greater) occurs about
every 80 years (the last one in 1895). There is a 50% chance of such
a quake by the year 2000. The results would be serious damage to
schools and masonry buildings from Memphis to St. Louis.

A major earthquake in this area (7.5 or greater) happens every 200-
300 years (the last one in 1812). There is a 10% chance of such a
disaster by the year 2000 and a 25% chance by 2040. A New Madrid
Fault rupture this size would be felt throughout half the United
States and damage expected in 20 states or more. Missouri alone could
anticipate losses of at least $6 billion from such an event.
http://www2.semo.edu/ces/CES2.HTML

A similar situation is trying to predict when the earth's magnetic
pole will flip -- it has not done so for 780,000 years, yet the
average is 250K years, so statistically, a flip (like the New Madrid
quake, possibly?) is overdue, but that's only based on history, not
the actual dynamics of the earth, which are not easy to discern for
either quakes or magnetic flips. Scientists do not have enough info,
or enough computing power, according to the following Scientific
American article, to predict a magnetic flip even if they had more
info from the earth's interior. http://tinyurl.com/4gypy

Yes, that's why all new SV housing is being built on rotating
platforms, or as trailers like the Vedic City pundit housing, for easy
moving ...

(in case anybody doesn't get the joke, it usually takes maybe a
thousand years, although not always, for a magnetic flip to complete
http://www.psc.edu/science/Glatzmaier/glatzmaier.html ).

Actually, since it is true north, not magnetic north, that Sthapathya
Veda orients itself to, I'm not sure if a magnetic flip would change
orientation as far as S-Veda is concerned. Good question for you to
ask, Rick, while you are on that recertification course starting today
in Vedic City -- I'm sure all you recerts will be regarded as deserving
of all the big secrets that us peons don't hear about.

Here's a tip - look at what land purchases the TMO is and has been
doing. Maybe after the 'Calamities' this will all be beachfront
property in places with really nice climate..

MMY decided that the TMO should keep the Navasota property and use it instead of selling it.
Where's that?

The part of the midwest I live in has already lost most of its winter
bite. How goes it in FF? I remember biting cold winter days in FF.
Now down this way a little, it seems like we don't get more than 4 or
5 days of cold before balminess comes.

It is a lot warmer and less snowy lately. I like to cross country ski. There
have been winters where you could do that from November through March. This
winter there were only a few days when I could do it.

The Azores too? I've heard about a landslide scenario on the Canary
islands off West Africa.

I thought that was a superman movie.

Actually, is an atomic blast from smaller scale nuclear weapons,
presumably the size that al qaeda might acquire, activate a 9 level
earthquake? I would have thought you would need much more force to
do so.

And if it started in the azores, western europe and nw africa would be
hardest hit, being within 1000-1500 miles. The US east coast is 3000
or so miles away. Ther recent tsunami seemed to damage shorelines up
to 1500 miles away. Can a tsunami travel full force 3000 miles?

2005-04-01 Thread rudra_joe

I got it. For all their faults religions, like
weapons, can be used according to individual needs, so I take offence when
people summarily judge them. Or their people. I knew a beautiful woman at
MIU who was Persian and such a great person. And Islam. I just find statements
like "now wouldn't it be great if the Muslims in
US read this and leavethecountry," Pretty
ignorant, especially coming from someone who is supposedly living a universal
life. Such blinders. Just shocked. It's something to me.
Sorry.

I guess I'm bothered when one is downgrading his

you should tell it to the koran "scholar". but hey
Muslims (i'm not referring to you) will not critic other
Muslims when they see their wrong doing.

A thorough analysis of the Koran reveals that the US will cease to
exist in the year 2007, according to research published by Palestinian
  scholar Ziad Silwadi.

We're at 778 feet above sea level, with plenty of hills and trees and
stuff
in between us and the oceans to stop those nasty tsunamis.

Yeah, but the New Madrid fault, when it fulfills its destiny as the
valley that splits North America, is close enough (S.E. Missouri) to
allow those tsunami waves to slosh over good ole S.E. Iowa, too:

leads geologists to suspect the the New Madrid fault is a failed rift
valley: a place where the North American continent almost split into
two pieces
