I think all are agreed that Hinduism is extra extra racist, and Maharishi reflected that. Worse than "demoting" others for skin color, Maharishi also has ALL the women at a lower notch. You don't see any men jumping on their wives funeral pyres. In the Laws of Manu, I think they equate killing a woman as being the same sin as killing a wagonload of bugs. The worst of all the isms of Maharishi was the elitism of his plutocratic policies -- "No money? Then ya can't talk to me." Shemp was purdy durned funny, and ironically, he DIDN'T go over the top but instead imagined a real-life scenario for Maharishi in the late 1800's. I do think, though, that Shemp missed the boat when he didn't imagine someone roping and branding a Sanskrit "OM" on a squealing Bevan. Cute, Shemp, cute. Seriously, as a TBer, I was told that when Guru Dev was born that that signaled the end of slavery on earth. I fell for it. Nowadays though, where isn't someone enslaved? Shackles and cuffs of every sort in every venue? >From speed limits to welfare cheese to triumphant Trump, limitations and addictions and profits make slaves of us all.
