Big judgement. I think it does speak well for this group. Ever been

Supposedly with TM that discipline is supposed to come from within.

Bhairitu, let me tell you a secret I have learned, that has allowed me
to be a little successful in my chosen field of sales. People like to
talk. People LOVE to talk, espcially about themselves, especially
about their opinions. And if you are willing to listen, you will find
ourself making a friend. So, no, I don't think TM will instill enough
self discipline to overcome this tendency. And I don't view it as a
failure of TM. I view it as a positive thing that people here have
opinions, and POVs that they want to express.

Cute, but why do people in this group need more discipline than any

 Lurk:
Probably because we're all kind of family here. And you know
how family is. Most everyone here, especially the main contributors
have a shared history. If we're not bashing one another over the
head, we're making nice. I'll tell you another secret Bhairitu, in
our family of 5, (two adults, three kids), we need a referee (the
parents)---constantly. One of the great misconceptions of life is
that kids expect grownups will have outgrown some of the petty
disputes that I know arise several times an hour in our household.
That is a belly laugh joke, and explains, I think, one of the reasons
why we have posting limits here.
You must not get out much then (on the Internet that is). There are
many Yahoo groups that I'm on where we're all kind of family. They
don't have posting limits. Let me tell you a secret Lurk, we're all
adults here and don't need any referees. Some of us don't have daddy
issues. Either that or because you have kids you think you get to boss
everyone else around just like you do your kids. Believe I've seen
people like that and it is a good way to get a slap from me when someone
tries to pull that shit on me in public. We have some upscale
yuppievilles around here housing middle management types who think they
can boss everyone around away from the job. Boy do they get a surprise
when they try that shit on me.

of the most enlightened groups I belong to is an international group of

While I am glad for the posting limits, I think this latest rule,
essentially requiring people to play nice with each other, is dumb and
demeaning to everyone. It basically reduces Rick to the position of having
to beseech people to mind their manners, and reduces everyone else to either

Because I’m too caught up in work and other matters to read most of the
posts, it seems that little flame wars erupt and subside without my
knowledge. If some serious and prolong abuse occurred and were brought to my
attention, I’d deal with it, as long as we have a consensus that we want to
restrict such behavior. We seemed to have such a consensus when we first
established the rule, although it certainly wasn’t unanimous, and we can
review and revise it any time we like. It seems to me that the intention to
enforce some sort of civility has made the group more civil, without my
having to do much enforcing. And I don’t think it has dumbed us down or
suppressed creativity.

This notion of Rick Archer as rules-wielding fascist is utterly
ridiculous. It was with great reluctance that he even put in place
FFL's posting limits, and in all the years, only one person has ever
been permanently banned from FFL. The Wed Night Yahoo Group is
supposed to be an extension of the group that meets in Tom T's
livingroom, and the biggest problem is that laissez-faire Rick doesn't
run the Yahoo Group like Tom runs his livingroom.

I set up the Wednesday night chat because I know how, not because I want to
run it. I’m just a technician there, mostly sending out occasional
invitations, usually at Tom’s request. I’m not a moderator and don’t want to
be. Here in FFL of course, I play more of a moderator role, because somebody
needs to, but as you know, I want to interfere as little as possible and
basically let the group run on automatic pilot, which it usually does. A
more controlling role would directly contradict the mission of the group, as
stated in the description: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fairfieldlife/.

Another possible conclusion would be that the German fascists were really as
