ilbsndfile update!

2009-11-14 Thread Orcan Ogetbil
Hi folks,
After getting okays from a few folks I decided to fix the long
standing libsndfile bugs.

One of these was a request [1] to split the utilities that come with
libsndfile into a utils subpackage. I did this only for F-13.

Since libsndfile is used by so many other software, it is impractical
for me to check all of these software to see if any of them depends on
these command line utilities. If you have a package that depends on
libsndfile, it would be good to check whether it uses these utilities.
Then you'll need to require libsndfile-utils directly. If your package
just needs the library there is nothing to worry about. Again, the
utils split is only made in F-13.

Other than that, libsndfile is updated to 1.0.20 in F-10+. Also, now
it has the libvorbis support enabled.

Cheers,
oget

I am sure, we will get kernel updates post-release due to security

I'm not sure what you're expecting, but users will only be able to get

Yes. As always, having a backup of your data is a good thing.

Does that mean that preupgrade with 200 M /boot works?

This was a problem noticed post-release and workarounded by a PackageKit
push that disables upgrade release notifications on the desktop. It is
possible to run preupgrade manually if you clean up older kernels and
find enough room.

/bin/sh and libc.so both ought to be trigger points for an I'm-not-sane

b) draw attention of those persons who have the means to take

I would produce a report before sending any mails. A report suming up the
occurrence of each missing dependency. Eyeballing the top slots of this
list should highlight some obvious things to fix first like the /bin/sh one.
You want to avoid reporting global or near global items on a per package basis.

F-12 regression: new HAL completely breaks Palm-synching

2009-11-14 Thread Alex Lancaster
Hi there,

Unfortunately the new HAL on F-12 removed the handling for ACLs
(apparently this is now done by udev = 145), but this now has the
side-effect of removing the fdi files that were being used for Palm
devices, resulting in breaking of all Palm functionality in Fedora, as
detailed here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529259

My question is, as a neophyte wrt udev/hal internal logic, where should
this logic correctly reside? The appropriate functionality appears to
have moved to the udev package as implied by the changelog entry in hal:

* Wed Jul 22 2009 David Zeuthen davidz -  0.5.12-26.20090226git.4
- Disable ConsoleKit+PolicyKit support and lock down most interfaces
  with at_console
- Disable ACL management, this is now handled by udev = 145

but it doesn't appear to be there at least with respect to Palm devices.
At one point we actually had the logic in the pilot-link package, but we
removed it when it was upstreamed in hal, now it's moved again. :(

I have only just upgraded to F-12, and apparently the main pilot-link
owner (I'm just a co-maintainer) has not had a chance to test this on
F-12 otherwise it would have been caught earlier in the release cycle.

This is a fairly major regression for the user experience of any Palm
user (yes there are still many of us!) on F-12, so I would like to get
it fixed ASAP (at the very least for a 0-day or 1-day update if
possible).

If necessary I'm happy re-enable it in pilot-link only (if that's
possible) until upstream is ready to push an update, but I'd like to
know fairly soon so that I don't conflict on a possible udev/hal update
that does the same thing.
