With it gnome-authentification-agent should be working. * But a KDE based authentification agent would still be a good thing. o KDE 4.3.0 update status: * The received feedback was quite good so far. * An updated selinux-policy [2] is needed to be pushed to stable with/before KDE 4.3.0 to don't fail suspend to ram in enforcing mode. (#516824). * It also needs to be checked if F-10 is also affected by this. * Two known regressions are left: - #516445: Show Dashboard Shortcut (ctrl-f12) doesn't work after upgrade to kde 4.3.0. - #518000: suspend/hibernate from menu not working after update to KDE 4.3 * The first one needs a kconf_update script to be written. (plasma binary was renamed to plasma-desktop). * Updated extragear packages are already in updates-testing for F-10 and F-11 and will hit Rawhide after the freeze. * akonadi has become a direct dependency of kdebase-workspace at compile time. * We'll need to investigate if akonadi is really an optional package and if we a) could split the dependency into a subpackage of kdebase-workspace and b) disable the requirement for other packages without loosing functionality. -- = Next Meeting = http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/KDE/Meetings/2009-08-25 -- = Links = [1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2009- August/msg00932.html [2] https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F11/FEDORA-2009-8536 [3] https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F10/FEDORA-2009-8551 [4] https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F11/FEDORA-2009-8522 = Buglist = https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516445 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516824 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=518000 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -- fedora-devel-list mailing list fedora-devel-list@redhat.com https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-devel-list
[Fedora-livecd-list] Big size difference in i686 and x86_64 versions of KDE live images
Hi, my KDE live images are showing a big size difference between the i686 and the x86_64 images (around 40 megs). The slighlty different package list couldn't explain this (i.e. atlas-sse (i686) vs. atlas (x86_64) is the only important difference). So I've compared the sizes of the installed packages (rpm -qa --qf %{name} {size}\n | sort -nr). Many packages are different in size but the kernel does have the biggest difference: i686: 78453688 x86_64: 103736431 A test spin of the GNOME images doesn't show this difference (only 2 megs). Does anybody has an explanation for this? Or can somebody try to create a x86_64 version for comparison (with livecd- creator and spins-kickstarts from git)? So I'll have to wait until the mass rebuilt has finished and my mirrors are in sync. Re: Ubuntu Ibex offers choice of KDE4.1.2 or KDE3.5.10... and kernel-2.6.27.
Am Thu, 30 Oct 2008 10:56:38 -0400 schrieb Linuxguy123 [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Subject says it all. Fedora developers tell us that they can't give us a choice of KDE version and yet Ubuntu is doing it. Ironically, Fedora says their distribution is more cutting edge and yet Ibex gets kernel 2.6.27 and we are still stuck with 2.6.26. I think the KDE-3.5.10 decision demonstrates that Ubuntu developers are more sensitive to user end needs. I've not checked it but this seems not to be true: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/KDE3-KDE4Migration Will 8.10 include KDE 3? 8.10 will only include KDE 4 as its desktop. KDE 3 will not be available. As the code-name suggests, Intrepid is intended as a deliberately cutting edge release, if you would rather stay with what you know 8.04 continues to be fully supported. The development team decided that time and manpower considerations as well as the probable(possible) lack of further 3.5x releases prevent them from maintaining 2 separate versions, and KDE 4 was chosen as the version to move forward with. I think those are just excuses for a developer community that wants to do it own thing irregardless of what users actually want. Believe me, that isn't true either. And as it was said in an earlier thread (IIRC): Join the KDE-SIG, offer your help, raise your voice, get participated (in a way you want to or being able to) and you will finally see this for yourself. [Fedora-livecd-list] One big and some smaller issues with current live images
Hi. I just want to ask a few question if these issues are already know or, if not, worth to bug. I'm quite busy ATM, so I want to ask before do doubled work. :) First the big one: Selinux is preventing the live image user to get root privileges. /bin/su isn't executable for him and liveinst also fails with an unknown error. If I switch to TTY1 and disable enforcing with setenforce 0 both are working. So this is likely a SELinux issue. Fedora 9 and KDE 4.0.0 in distrowatch article
A distrowatch article collects some informations about the recently released KDE 4.0.0. But they seems to be a little bit confused about the different spins. http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20080114 The Fedora distribution has traditionally been focusing on GNOME as its preferred desktop environments, but with the increasing community participation in the project, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that KDE 4.0.0 is now included in rawhide (Fedora's development branch). Not only that, it also appears to be the default KDE (KDE 3.5.8 is present as well, but these packages have been renamed to kdebase3, kdelibs3, etc.). Moreover, the Fedora community has released an installable Fedora live CD containing a base system from the latest rawhide + KDE 4.0.0 - a good way to evaluate the progress Fedora has made since the release of version 8. The live CD is available for download from here: rawhide-KDE4-i686-20080109.4.iso (694MB, SHA1). Hi. I'm still unable to don't include firefox on a livecd (although the xulrunner/firefox conflict is resolved). I'm not even having an idea why it is included in my local spins. I've thrown something at caillon as it's been going on for a while too long. Is there a way to get livecd-creator more verbose so that I'm seeing why it tries to install one of them? `repoquery --whatrequires --alldeps xulrunner` will show you what requires xulrunner Ah. Missed the alldeps switch. thx. But even if I try to remove all of the listed packages the conflict still happens. And I don't want either xulrunner nor firefox on the livecd. Or is this maybe somehow related to the way livecd-creator checks the dependencies? Maybe because the defined packages are removed _after_ the check? I will try it with a modified local repo. The KDE-SIG needs (your) help
This is a request for participation: The KDE-SIG [1] is atm lacking active contributors. And we really need some help in doing our job to provide a good KDE version in Fedora - especially with the upcoming KDE 4.0 and the inclusion in Fedora 9. If you don't know how you could help us here is a list (which is also in the wiki): * Packagers: There are so many interesting packages that are not yet packaged for Fedora. Package it to improve the user experience. * Reviewers: Only a few persons are doing the kde-related reviews. Help us reviewing so that more packages could be included. * Testers: If you love KDE use the development version or the updates-testing repository and report bugs, bugs, bugs, request enhancements or features. We need your feedback to improve KDE. * Bugs: Become a BugZapper and help us with kde-related bugs. * Documentation writers: The documentation (esp. the DesktopUserGuide) is GNOME-centered. Help us to provide an equivalent for KDE. * Release Notes: The few people that are working on the new KDE-Spin are quite busy with development issues. If you want to help us in writing the release notes for the next version of Fedora we would give you all the info you need. * Wiki: Maintain http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KDE and keep it updated with end user information. * Artists: To provide a matching theme for nodoka-metacity-theme and provide an unified desktop experience. But this is not a complete list. If you're interested in making KDE in Fedora better, you're more than welcome. The list of participants in the wiki is atm not a list of active contributors. When setting up the wiki the only demand was an interest in KDE to be listed on this page. This list would be changed in the future to be culled down to the list of active (or reactivated) participants. This has become necessarely because there are only (less or more) 3 active contributors atm (plus Than Ngo). But the list indicates that there are enough people helping with KDE. If you are interested in joining the KDE-SIG please add your name to this list, answer to this mail, join us in #fedora-kde at freenode or attend the weekly KDE-SIG-Meetings (every tuesday 17:00 UTC). I will also add a topic to the agenda of the meeting next week to introduce new contributors. [2] The attendance at the SIG-Meetings is of course not required. But this way we would know of each other. And they are also the main place of discussing the next steps in the development (besides fedora-devel-list). If you have any further questions please answer to this mail or write me directly. And be sure: If your are willing to help you're welcome (regardless of your skills). :) Sebastian [1] http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/KDE [2] http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/KDE/Meetings/2007-11-06 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Hi. I've noticed a little problem when booting with selinux enabled: /home/fedora/.bashrc would not be copied/created. [Fedora-livecd-list] How to remove groups in second config?
Hi. (This is for the new changes to livecd-creator from git which uses two kickstarts.) Is there a way to remove a group which is defined in the first config (here livecd-config-base-desktop.ks) in the second config (here livecd-fedora-kde.ks)? My problem is that the language groups (e.g. @estonian-support) pulls also the kde language files (kde-i18n-Estonian) and koffice language files (koffice-langpack-et) in the livecd. And I am not able to remove them in the second config (e.g. -kde-18n-* or -kde-i18n-et). Any hint how to fix this? The language files are about 325 megs and that's to big for the cd. I don't know why but this is not working. I could remove eg. gnome-games but kde-i18n-* and koffice-langpack-* would anyway be installed. Hrmm... I kind of thought it was there too. Maybe I'm hallucinating though and was only using the hot-repos on top of, eg, rawhide. The problem is: I need the groups defined in the comps.xml. ATM livecd-creator stops because it cannot find the group core. So it seems that I have to sync the whole directory and generate a local repository with comps.xml. :( You don't have to sync the whole repo. You can have an empty repo with just the comps file and it'll apply across all the repos. You man I could use: livecd-creator --config=./livecd-fedora-kde.ks \ --repo=d7;file:///myrepo/ \ --repo=d7;http://koji.fedoraproject.org/static-repos/f7-final-current/i386 where myrepo only contains the comps.xml? Call the comps repo something different, but essentially, yes Thanks. I've thought that I could only overwrite the repos defined in the kickstart with this. It's working now. FlyingHigh for ksplash-engine-moodin
Hi. I've made three splashs for ksplash-engine-moodin. I'am not an artist so some thinks could be done better. If someone would enhance this ones, feel free to pick them up. :) For the ones with icons: I've tried to use the same icons like in normal echo splash. But I haven't found the fifth one in the wiki. The last one is the normal fedora logo from /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/fedora-logo-icon.png.
