--- Comment #3 from Parag AN(पराग) [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-09-11 03:33:56 EDT

Suggestions:-
1) you can altenatively use version as
%define upstreamid 20080818
Version: 0.%{upstreamid}
This will help you in future if you switch to releases like 1.0 or 1.0.0
otherwise you need to use always date as version.

2) You should use shared libraries scriptlet as per given here
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/ScriptletSnippets#Shared_libraries

3) you should use install -Dp as per given here
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackagingGuidelines#Timestamps

4) Though not mandatory but good if you use defattr as
%defattr(-,root,root,-)
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/CreatingPackageHowTo#.25files_section

5) Package build is failed
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=819456
   You should use make as
   make %{?_smp_mflags} CFLAGS=$RPM_OPT_FLAGS -I.

Why you want to include -static package? See
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackagingGuidelines#Packaging_Static_Libraries

One further question: when a reference spec is used as the basis for a Fedora
spec, is there a preference on keeping the original changelog entries ?
I see value in acknowledging previous contributors and issues that occurred in
getting the spec to it's pre-fedora state. On the other hand, is it allowed to
include those old changelog entries ?

It is fine to keep the original entries. For example, I kept the old entries
from hatari when I migrated it from Dribble to Fedora.

I see no versioned libdwarf.so.*.*.* symlinks to libdwarf.so are created and
not included in libdwarf rpm. Do you want to create them?
In that case then you need to follow
- MUST: If a package contains library files with a suffix (e.g. libfoo.so.1.1),
then library files that end in .so (without suffix) must go in a -devel
package.

--- Comment #4 from Jindrich Novy [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-09-11 05:47:26 EDT
---
(In reply to comment #3)
 Eval of current srpm:

 rpmlint on srpm:

 Unversioned obsoletes, as above, plus:

This should be fine since the obsoletes are there because of very ancient BDB
versions (mostly all RHL ones) and they will never appear again.

 db4.src: W: mixed-use-of-spaces-and-tabs (spaces: line 140, tab: line 167)
The specfile mixes use of spaces and tabs for indentation, which is a cosmetic
annoyance. Use either spaces or tabs for indentation, not both.

This should be fixed now.

 db4.src: W: patch-not-applied Patch22: db-4.5.20-jni-include-dir.patch
A patch is included in your package but was not applied. Refer to the patches
 documentation to see what's wrong.

D'oh, seems like I forgot to apply the patch actually after rediffing. It is
now fixed as well.

 rpmlint on rpms:

No docs for -cxx, -tcl and -static. Still the non-standard exec perm.

The problem is that there is no documentation for -static, since it is actually
the same as -devel but statically linked. The -cxx, -tcl is shipped without
docs since there is shipped only runtime bits and I stuffed all the docs, which
are actually of any use by developers into -devel subpackage.

Thanks for the review.

--- Comment #1 from Victor Bogado [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-09-11 08:06:31 EDT
---
Details about this package the upstream developer don't use normal version
numbers he simply uses the subversion release number as an identifier for each
version, this is why the version look funny. I considered several options to
treat this:

- use the version as if it was a pre-release, but I decided against because as
far as I know this stay as a pre-release forever.

- use an artificial version 0.#release but this could conflict with a future
change of mind of the upstream developer.

- Use the version as the developer have made, using simply the release number.

I have chosen the later, as it is the most pristine way of selecting a
version number, that will hopefully be compatible and comparable with version
number on other distributions.

New version fixing warnings and hopefully a lot of other issue (patches have
been sent upstream). Rebased against the latest SVN (development is pretty
fast, so it seemed like improper to patch old version).

Looks very well.

Please remove the leading blank line in %description, I am not sure it would
look well in GUI tools. Description probably needs some more love -- the fact
that the package is free doesn't need to be mentioned there (redundant, see
License tag) and X windows is correctly spelled without the trailing s and
with w capitablized: X Window, X Window System, or just X11.

It's not clear what does this line do, and why does it belong to %prep. Please
explain and add a comment:
make -f Makefile.cvs dist

What's %{_datadir}/apps? Would not %{_datadir}/raytracer be more
appropriate? In case not, please ensure you depend on the package that creates
it or own it.
%{_datadir}/apps/raytracer/

After looking at the README I think this package should require
 wireless-tools.

hmmm, I guess it's possible to use weplab without the wireless-tools. But this
make only sense if the user wants to use it with data from another source (e.
g. wireshark, tcpdump, ...).

Okay, then:

-
NOTE: Before being sponsored:

This package will be accepted with another few work.
But before I accept this package, someone (I am a candidate)
must sponsor you.

Once you are sponsored, you have the right to review other
submitters' review requests and approve the packages formally.
For this reason, the person who want to be sponsored (like you)
are required to show that you have an understanding
of the process and of the packaging guidelines as is described
on :
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/HowToGetSponsored

Usually there are two ways to show this.
A. submit other review requests with enough quality.

REVIEW

Good:

- rpmlint checks return:
ember.x86_64: W: conffile-without-noreplace-flag /etc/ember/ogre.cfg
ember.x86_64: W: conffile-without-noreplace-flag /etc/ember/resources.cfg
ember.x86_64: W: conffile-without-noreplace-flag /etc/ember/terrain.cfg

Documented why you didn't do this, safe to ignore.

- package meets naming guidelines
- package meets packaging guidelines
- license (GPLv3+) OK, text in %doc, matches source
- spec file legible, in am. english
- source matches upstream (f5d94ac46131bcf0bb7788e311331aac523287b8)
- package compiles on devel (x86_64, koji scratch)
- no missing BR
- no unnecessary BR
- no locales
- not relocatable
- owns all directories that it creates
- no duplicate files
- permissions ok
- %clean ok
- macro use consistent
- code, not content
- no need for -docs
- nothing in %doc affects runtime
- desktop file ok

Nice job with this package, APPROVED.

SRPM URL:
http://www.auroralinux.org/people/spot/review/new/perl-Gtk2-ImageView-0.04-1.fc10.src.rpm
Description:
Perl bindings to the GtkImageView image viewer widget. Find out more about
GtkImageView at http://trac.bjourne.webfactional.com/. The Perl bindings follow
the C API very closely, and the C reference should be considered the canonical
documentation.

Note: You'll need this updated perl-Glib package to build/use this:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=820825

Accordingly, this is a rawhide only item (F10+).

---
Created an attachment (id=316467)
 -- (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=316467)
Proposed changes.

Changes attached, scratch build at:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=820452

(In reply to comment #1)
 binutils.src:20: W: prereq-use /sbin/install-info
The use of PreReq is deprecated. In the majority of cases, a plain Requires
is enough and the right thing to do. Sometimes Requires(pre), Requires(post),
Requires(preun) and/or Requires(postun) can also be used instead of PreReq.

Fixed:
+Requires(post): /sbin/install-info
+Requires(preun): /sbin/install-info

 binutils.src:22: W: unversioned-explicit-obsoletes gnupro
The specfile contains an unversioned Obsoletes: token, which will match all
older, equal and newer versions of the obsoleted thing. This may cause update
problems, restrict future package/provides naming, and may match something it
was originally not inteded to match -- make the Obsoletes versioned if
 possible.

Fixed:
+Obsoletes: gnupro = 1117-1

 binutils.src:303: W: macro-in-%changelog _prefix

Not fixed as it was already used with single or double % case-by-case
appropriately. One should see during `rpm -q --changelog'
- fix multilib conflict in /usr/include/bfd.h
and not:
- fix multilib conflict in %{_prefix}/include/bfd.h

 binutils.src: W: %ifarch-applied-patch Patch4:
 binutils-2.18.50.0.3-ia64-lib64.p
A patch is applied inside an %ifarch block. Patches must be applied
on all architectures and may contain necessary configure and/or code
patch to be effective only on a given arch.

 Not a problem.

Not fixed, source tree is already arch-dependent as I was told by Roland
McGrath.

 binutils.src: W: summary-ended-with-dot A GNU collection of binary utilities.
 Summary ends with a dot.

Fixed.

Why are the .a files not in a -static package? What would be the
 ramifications
 of correcting this?

libiberty.a should be in fact removed as it should not be used by anyone as
packages using libiberty have it bundled and build it on their own.

libbfd.a and libopcodes.a are not ABI compatible across versions so their
shared (.so) counterparts are not intended for linking with 3rd party
applications - they are provided only for the binaries from this rpm.
3rd party applications link bfd/opcodes statically.

There is nothing left for a possible -static package.

(In reply to comment #2)
I think it would be better to change the perl substitution
 to a sed substitution.

Not done, IMO the Perl regex syntax is more flexible and I find the sed syntax
obsoleted nowadays.

the gzipping of info files will be done automatically,

Fixed.

 I suggest using
 %defattr(-,root,root,-) instead of %defattr(-,root,root)

Changed (default directory attr; not in the scratch build).

Why not use %configure and why use %makeinstall?

Changed for %configure. There was a separate build directory before which I am
not aware how to configure while using %configure. But as I find the separate
build directory more as an inconvenience than advantage and the practical
reasons for it (gasp) no longer exist I changed it for a unified build/source
directory back again and so even using %configure.

(In reply to comment #5)
 binutils.src:157: W: configure-without-libdir-spec
A configure script is run without specifying the libdir. configure options
must be augmented with something like --libdir=%{_libdir} whenever the script
 supports it.

This is a rpmlint error, --libdir is there but rpmlint did not parse it right
through the %if blocks.

Thanks, if it is fine going to commit it.

I've attached a diff between your last spec file, and one I edited to fix the
rpmlint errors:

This review is against the fixed spec and SRPM. Please make those changes
before committing.

Good:

- rpmlint checks return:
ember-media.noarch: W: dangling-relative-symlink
/usr/share/ember/media/shared/common/themes/ember/gui/fonts/VeraBd.ttf
../../../../../../../../fonts/bitstream-vera/VeraBd.ttf

ember-media.noarch: W: dangling-relative-symlink
/usr/share/ember/media/shared/core/Vera.ttf

These are safe to ignore, because you have Requires: bitstream-vera-fonts

- package meets naming guidelines
- package meets packaging guidelines
