Thank you everybody for your efforts in contacting Julie, unfortunately
I can't help with the phone because of my location... I don't remember
her husband's name neither. At least hope not to hear bad news.

Thank you again

2006-03-03 Thread Lernermichelle

Kerry, I really think you should try the I-R.  I had success with it
with Ginger when she had a long-term (3 week) bad URI and was not eating, and
with Patches when she had pneumonia. And it sounds like Smokey has a
similar  if not identical problem to Bandy's, with the intermittent fevers
and URI signs, and apparently the I-R has worked much better than the
antibiotics and steroids.

Swollen lymph nodes in the neck can be from bad infection somewhere (when I
had mono the glands in my neck were huge) or from lymphoma.

Re: Bandy and Immuno-Regulin

Yes, there is info on the felk website about IR.  I looked for info
that I saved about it and at first glance came up with one of Kyle's
posts about Brissle when she was on it, (pasted below).

>From what I understand it is a bacteria (?), that when introduced to
their system helps kick their immune response up to fight the, I
assume, less harmful threat of the IR.  It always made me nervous to
try it, but so many seemed to have benefited from it.  I wish I had a
nickle for the times I've heard, both personally and from others, about
things the vets don't think will work that do.  I'm not saying your vet
isn't good, I'm just saying that there comes a time to try things that
you might otherwise not.  I'm sorry I didn't try it with Gracie.  I
ordered it, had it in the house, even made an appointment with the vet
to give it to her IV, and then canceled the appointment because my vet
didn't believe in it.  I don't know, trying to eliminate the "what ifs"
before they happen can make us crazy.  I just thought I'd put it out
there, esp since one of Smokey's problems was continuing fevers.  You
know how I feel about Pred and even if it seems to be helping, it
certainly hasn't resolved anything yet.  Please don't misunderstand,
I'm not trying to talk you into anything.  I just feel for you and hate
it when I can't help fix things for those I care about.
Much love,
Nina

<>>> Here's
where I bought Immunoregulin myself: http://www.revivalanimal.com/product.asp?pn=31-020&ss=immunoregulin
<>
Don't worry
about the bottle not saying Immunoregulin. EqStim is the same exact
thing,
Propionibacterium acnes. It's just marketed for horses instead. Here's
the
manufacturer info:
Immunoregulin: http://www.neogen.com/immunoregulin.htm
EqStim:
http://www.neogen.com/eqstim.htm
 <>Isn't it
cute how they make the pages different to make it look like two
different
products? The key thing here is the concentration. On the Immunoregulin
page:
"This immunostimulant is a preparation consisting of 0.4 mg/mL
non-viable
Propionibacterium acnes suspended in 12.5% ethanol in saline." The
EqStim
page doesn't tell you that. But the bottle does. And yes, it's the
same. I
think EqStim is much much cheaper, cause you have to use so much on a
horse.
<>

Dosage for
dogs is shown on the Immunoregulin page - .25ml to .50ml for dog up to
15
lbs. We used an exact .5ml on Brissle, who was only 7 lbs. That's the
recommended dosage for a cat with FeLV. Injections are IV, twice a
week.
Brissle didn't have any side effects at that dosage. In fact, she was
quite
giddy when we got home from the vet.

Re: Bandy and Buster updates

2006-03-03 Thread Nina

Hi Kerry,
You must be so upset, you guys have been dealing with problems for so
long.  I do remember posts about swollen lymph glands, I'm sorry I
can't remember specifics.  Hopefully whoever has dealt with that will
get back to you soon with some help.  I wrote you a little while ago
asking if Immuno Regulin was one of the things you've tried.  If you
haven't do you think it might help?  Cindy and Smokey have been using
it subq instead of the usual IV and it has seemed to help.  I'm pulling
for you guys.  One thing that I'm sure of, Bandy and Buster couldn't be
in more loving and responsible hands than yours.

As far as pilling someone that stresses over it...  The only thing that
helps me get through it is to steel myself to the fact that it is
necessary and in their best interest.  I take off my "Mommy hat" and
put on my "nurse's cap".  I go at it as matter-of-factly as I can and
tell them that the less they struggle the sooner it will be over with.
That it WILL get done, so they might as well cooperate.  I usually give
special treats afterward.  Gracie never cared much for food, so her
reward was to get some supervised outside play time right after her
shot/pills.  It got to the point that as soon as I released her she'd
run to the back door and wait for me follow.  Is there something
special you could do for Buster to help the medicine go down easier?

Sending prayers that your fellas feel better soon.  With love and
support,
Nina

Re: Second guesses...

2006-03-03 Thread wendy
Hey Becca,

Keep in mind that you are going through a process that
every single person goes through when they lose
someone they love. And I think when we are in charge
of caring for a loved one, it may even be more
difficult because we are put in a position of making
choices and decisions that either make things better
or worse, which is one of life's unfair lessons.
Second guessing is very normal, and you will
eventually come out of most of it. The important
thing to remember when you are second guessing is that
you made ALL your decisions out of love, and Paassht
knew that. Even if a decision would have given her
one more day, it might have been a bad day for
Paassht, you know? She might have been in pain. So
her passing came when it was supposed to come and you
had no control over that. We'll never be able to make
all the right choices because we don't have full
disclosure. Seek peace Becca and try to find comfort
in your memories and love of Paassht. Go easy on
yourself. I found that time has been my best ally in
grieving over Cricket.

Take care,
:)
Wendy

I agree with you and the others, Michelle. I do think
signing our group onto the petition would be a good
idea. It certainly wouldn't hurt.
