He had a very rough night as he just didn't respond to any of the meds that we gave him on Monday.. He was breathing more rapid and harder all thru the night...So this morning when the vet called to give me the results of the aspirate, I told her I was going to bring him in for a breathing treatment and to have her check his lungs...Things just really progressed so fast, I haven't ever seen anything like it. It hadn't even been 14 or so hours that he was jumping in my lap and scratching his post. He was still drinking water, but I couldn't get him to eat anything and I tried it all...That was a first for him as he never went off his food, but was hardly ever sick in his 13 yrs 11months other than an occasional sinus infection.. We made the appt. to go to Dallas, but it is a long drive and with the type of lymphoma he had, it would have been so hard on him...the drive and the tests...I wanted him to have his dignity..and he did...I went back to see him after he had been in the oxygen cage for an hour or so...He was having some difficulty, but not as much as before...He looked at me and the vet tech opened the cage so I could see him and pet him...then he started breathing harder...I asked her if he was starting to die and she said yes...So I picked him up and took him in the exam room...I put him in my lap as I did several times a day, the way he liked to sit with me and told him it was ok, that I was there and he would be ok..He took about 3 more breaths and passed away...He was waiting for me to return, and I will always believe that..He wanted me with him so I am glad that I didn't put him thru anything else...I believe he was ready..He was my "Rock", my tough kitty that has helped me get thru all my other's illnesses...As you all know, how difficult this is to write. Dear Kerry, I started crying when I read how after you talked to Buster, that he took 3 more breaths and then passed away, and how he was waiting for you. How much he must have loved you to wait. And I absolutely believe that he was waiting. You have been so good to Buster. I am so glad you handled things the way you did. It sounds like everything worked out just the way it was supposed to. It is a blessing that he did not suffer much. If you need anything at all, please ask. I know this is hard on you and I will pray for peace and strength for you and Bandy and Lil Rascal. Bailey Update
Bailey's bloodwork is very good, his anemia is pretty much resolved, his HCT went from his lowest of 15% up to now 40%, so he is no longer anemic. Physically however he is not improving, he is still not really gaining any significant weight (from 8.4 to 8.9.5 in a little over a month), he is still bony and very lethargic and inactive. She feels his muscle wasting is getting a little better, I can't really tell, sometimes I think it is sometimes I'm not so sure. My vet is stumped, I really feel we have cancer somewhere and just haven't found it, my vet did say he is touchy when she checks his kidney's and I am going to get an ultrasound done on his organs to see if we are missing something with his kidney's (his urinalysis was normal) or intestines (she say's they feel fine, but I want to check everything). He was diagnosed with arthritis in his back about a year ago and I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't something going on with his spine (he is weak on his backend sometimes when walking, he'll titl or sway to one side, just for a second but it is there). The tender spine area and kidney's are about in the same vicinity and my vet said it may be his spine but she feels it is his kidney ... He had a urinalysis that came back normal, he doesn't appear to be dehydrated. I do have a friend that said she had a cat that would get very lethargic and sleep ALOT when she was on prednisolone and when they took her off she would be her normal self, could the pred be part of his lethargy problem? Even if that is part of the problem, I know there is more going on because of the muscle wasting and boniness, I have only seen this happen in cancer kitties, has anyone seen this with other disease processes? Sometimes he will also get up, head for the bathroom, or just take a few steps, and then he will back up and layback down. He'll do this several times and almost always take a poop at some point wherever he happens to be. I have looked at his face when he is doing this and sometimes he appears to be kind of spacey looking So I wonder if there is something neurological or something with his brain going on? Sean does any of this strike a chord with you? Remember Bailey is FeLV+ and was diagnosed by the pathologist who looked at his bone marrow aspirate, at antech labs as being preleukemic & myliod dyplastic. My vet say's by all accounts being that his bloodwork is so good, all of his blood counts are normal, some where low before, they are all normal now. She feels the FeLV virus is dormant again and not replicating in his bone marrow and he should be feeling good and acting normal. Re: Bailey Update
Wow, Belinda - this is sure a situation of "good news/bad news". I read somewhere - maybe here - about using Winstrol, an anabolic steroid, to counteract muscle wasting, and I think Gloria suggested fatty acids. You are so far ahead of me knowledge-wise re:feleuk that none of that is probably new to you. The two 2yr olds of mine who died recently, Jack and SweetWilly Brown, both lost lots of muscle - sort of wasted away. They tested negative but my vet thinks they had feleuk in the bone marrow. Give Bailey a hug from me and my gang - I hope you find a solution soon.Belinda Sauro <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Bailey's bloodwork is very good, his anemia is pretty much resolved, his HCT went from his lowest of 15% up to now 40%, so he is no longer anemic.Physically however he is not improving, he is still not really gaining any significant weight (from 8.4 to 8.9.5 in a little over a month), he is still bony and very lethargic and inactive. Belinda Bailey Tabbs and Sandra
Dear Belinda Thanks for thinking of us, I am still trying to get it, may be Thursday, I now have it on order but will only believe it when I have got it, Spain is notorious for sending you round in circles and making you dance to there tune, but heres hoping. But we have just done another blood test today, and I am hoping for a improvement on his readings, He is still eating and holding his own, I am so afraid to get my hopes up, but he is not getting any worst dare I say. and ,I am hoping that the Interferon is working, the second batch cost me 500 euros, so I am hoping that when I have to order a 3rd batch that I will be able to cut down the amount of dosing that he is on. Which is every day at 0.25 my vet is has suggested inject every other day and by mouth each day in between, because we are unsure if the Interferon omega works the same as the one that you use, comments please. I have managed to get the L-lysine from the Uk that arrived yesterday, Keep your fingers crossed for me and Tabbs that just may be we are making some head way, I will let you know what the blood test come out at. I Have prayed for you and Bailey and oh so hope that things take a change for the better. thinking of you both, take care Kindest regards Sandra [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.cat-sculptures.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. Hi Sandra, I'm glad Tabbs seems to be holding his own and not getting any worse. Bailey has only been getting the interferon for about 3 weeks or so and I can't see any difference, but then there hasn't been any difference even though his bloodwork is now normal and good???!! Kerry, I'm sorry Buster didn't make it. It is so hard losing them and you are right he was waiting for you to return, our kitties know what we can and can't handle. He wanted to be in Mommy arms when he left this world and knew you would be OK with that, it is a very special priviledge to be with them when they pass, especially when they pass naturally. Susan, My vet did say it was hard to get, but the compounding pharmacy in town can get it and that's why I was able to. I asked them and they are only able to get it for local vets, so it is not the easiest thing to get. But for future reference if it comes up again, have your vet contact compounding pharmacies, and if you have any I would start with local ones. -- Belinda Happiness is being owned by cats ... Stinky
I adopted my brother's cat Stinky back in November 2000 after my brother was killed by a drunk driver. Stinky doesn't have feline leukemia but over the past year she has been losing weight. In January she broke her elbow and had to undergo surgery to put a pin in the bone. She did good after the surgery but kept on losing weight. I had blood work done and it came back normal. Today I took her to the vet because I could tell the pin had moved out of the bone somewhat. He was concerned over how much weight she had lost so did a test and he said she can't absorb fat when she eats. He is going to get a biopsy of the intestines and he thinks she may have cancer. I know nothing about this does anybody have any experience with this? He told me she might not make it through the surgery but if we don't get this biopsy she won't make it anyway. She eats all of the time but doesn't gain any weight. She vomits sometimes. Cindy __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Re: Stinky
Food allergies will mimic pancreas problems (inability to digest fat). We thought Kitty had this problem but put her on a severe elimination diet and it cleared that part of the situation up. She has cancer and it may have originated in the pancreas or in the thyroid (or who knows--I decided not to pursue the issue. Most of the "cures" weren't and were worse than the problems. We are treating whatever symptoms present themselves and dealing with the situation on a day to day basis--and have enjoyed almost a year and a half of very good quality life). Kitty was about 12 when she developed the allergies. My vets tell me it is unusual for a cat that age to develop food allergies but there is no disputing the evidence. Good luck. Re: [felinelymphomacaregivers] Bailey Update
Now to make things even trickier, with all of Bailey's bloodwork being normal again, I just got the results of his iron test and he is low 41, with normal being 65 to 125??? Any ideas??? I've made an appointment for an ultrasound, originally had it for Tuesday but decided to try to get an earlier appointment, they squeezed me in tomorrow. We will be checking kidney's, speen, liver, intestines and looking for enlarged lymphnodes. If she see's anything that doesn't look right we will get fine needle aspirates of the area. Have also ordered a higher calorie food PD, which is for birthing animals and animals that have been traumatized. Hopefully he will start to put on some weight. -- Belinda Happiness is being owned by cats ... Be-Mi-Kitties ... http://www.bemikitties.com

Re: [felinelymphomacaregivers] Bailey Update
My own iron was low from being on a medication that reduces my stomach acid, which interferes with iron absorbtion. Is there any chance that any of the meds he's on can interfere with iron absorbtion? Also, is he on extra calcium, because calcium binds with iron. Anyway, Pet Tinic should be helping with that... I wonder if it could be lab error? Michelle In a message dated 3/8/2006 6:03:45 P.M. Re: Bailey Update
Belinda, A few thoughts. I have never heard of pred causing low energy-- usually it is the opposite. However, too much steroids over a long period can sometimes cause something called Cushings Disease in humans and dogs-- it did with my dog Fern. Muscle wasting and lethargy can both be symptoms, as well as joint swelling and tenderness. Cats are much less prone to this, but I think it might happen in very rare cases. However, didn't these symptoms predate your putting him on the pred? I hate to mention it, but lymphoma in the brain does not necessary show up in blood work or anywhere else. I had no idea Ginger was even sick until two days before she died. Though she was extremely energetic and did not have any muscle wasting either, but I think it can depend on where in the brain it is. Usually, though, I think there are symptoms like she had-- walking in circles, seeming off-balance, before or instead of something systemic like muscle wasting. If you do not find anything with the ultrasound, I want to make another plug for trying I-R. Dr. Lees, who wrote one of the articles on it, says he uses it on positive cats who come in thin and anemic and without energy and it often gets them back to feeling normal and having normal blood work. I know you want to get a diagnosis, and I hope the ultrasound is useful, but I hope he doesn't have cancer. Michelle In a message dated 3/8/2006 12:37:27 P.M. Janine, I am sorry your wonderful mother passed away. I "met" her when we transported Lovey and Merry, I overnighted those sweet babies and while both are lovely, Merry crawled into my heart quickly. I'm happy you will continue to care for them and all the furbabies. When my Effie FeLV+ died a year ago, your mom wrote a long note to me and also told her story of losing precious furbabies and the struggle with her health. It was overwhelming. Re: AAADD - Thought we could all use a chuckle
Boy, can I relate to this! - Original Message - From: "Nina" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 12:49 PM Subject: AAADD - Thought we could all use a chuckle Here's one of those forwards that made me smile. How the heck does this person know what's going on in MY life? Nina Do you suffer from AAADD ? Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I realize the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered. I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: the driveway is flooded the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, there is still only one check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail. Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent. Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!
