Re: Buddy has come to stay
Now there's an apt term, scrappy...I took some more pictures of Buddy today and I'll post them when I get a chance. He has an old wound on one side of his face where the skin looks like it was badly abraded or even burned. I think that may have been a healing wound when we first saw him. We're so sad about him being FIV+. Like I mentioned earlier, it's no surprise but no less heartbreaking for being anticipated.Becca[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I had a Buddy too. I'm back for a while again
Hi everyone! Just dropping in to say hi and check out the goings-on lately. I find myself lately sitting at my computer wondering why I'm sitting there, cause there's no email or anything really to do. SO, I know going back on mail on this group will fix that! No lack of email here, right? Anyways, my condolences to everyone that has lost a baby while I was away, and hi to any newbies that have joined in that period. I'm Jenn, but probably, I know, not the only one (I'm going to change my name, but am undecided on what to change it to at this point). If anyone in the North-eastern USA in the "New England" states has FELV+ or FIV+ cats up for adoption, I'd be happy to put them up on my NE adoption listing pages. I currently have one cat up for adoption here now, in rescue. He's a very sweet FIV+ boy, who gets along GREAT with kids and dogs, but has never seen another cat until he came here, and is just not so sure he cares for them (I think he thinks he's a dog). SO, if anyone in NE wants a GREAT FIV+ boy, healthy as can be, sweet, loving, even-tempered, good with kids and BIG dogs (his buddy was over 100lbs rotty/shepherd), send them my way. Zack would love to be part of a family, and not stuck in a cage all alone here. Re: "Slight" positive
Faulty test? Bad laboratory procedures? Could be any number of things, all the way from your vet got lab samples mixed up, to the testing kit was defective, to it's possible your breeder isn't god and can't control everything all the time, to maybe your breeder wasn't so reputable after all. OR, if your cat has ever been boarded or spent any time in a place other than your own home, she might have been infected there (highly unlikely unless you boarded her at a VERY nasty place where they let boarders interact). Anyways, there's lots of reasons HOW it COULD have happened, however unlikely. BUT, chances are, it's just a bad test result. Wait a month, go to a DIFFERENT vet (one that might have newer or a different batch of test kits). Then, if THAT comes back positive, have blood drawn and send off for an IFA, done at a large lab, not in house at the vet's office. RE: "Slight" positive
Hello Sylvia, Sorry to hear about the results of the SNAP for your little boy. What I've read indicates that you will want to do another test with different technology sometime soon. An IFA might do the trick. I'm really not sure of what the (Idexx?) SNAP is vs. ELISA. Someone here could probably enlighten me. You might also want to do the same test in three weeks to three months. In the meantime, a really good diet (Innova EVO, Felidae, etc.) and as little stress as possible are the way to go. Even if he doesn't have the virus, those are good steps to take for any kitty. Hopefully, this is just a false positive (not unheard of). Take care. Lance

Bandit is also the oldest cat in our family and has also beaten my record with cats. My very first cat, Sarge, passed away just 5 years after I found him. He also had cancer. Then we had to put Moonshadow down 5 years after we found him. He was so sick and there was no hope. Then there was Smoky. And the most recent lost was my Sylvester who was Felv+ and passed away last year, just 2 years after we rescued him. Now I have 2 cats with Asthma, one also is Felv+, and 11 cats that so far are healthy as can be! I am thankful for all the time I am allowed to spend with my "kids", even when it is short. Every year on Bandit's birthday, I celebrate the good and remember the sad. Thanks for letting me talk. Chris
RE: Buddy has come to stay
My Romeo is a stray I was feeding for a couple of years. He was always terrified if my hands came near him and yet would always come running to rub up against my legs. I brought him in when we expectign sub-zero temps and a major snow storm. He has turned into the most loving affectionate cat in the brood! I know he was somebody’s throw away cat-he’s FELV+ & I suspect they threw him out when they found out. "Slight" positive
I am totally bewildered and am wondering if anyone out there can help shed some light. My one year 10 month old Persian cat was tested for FELV/FIV with the SNAP test on Thursday and showed a "slight" positive for FELV. This blew me out of the water as I purchased him as a kitten from a very reputable breeder who has paper proof that all her cats are negative and vaccinated. My cat has never been in contact with any other cats and is a strictly indoor pet. How can this be??? Any ideas Sylvia

2 FeLV+ Kittens Need Home - Please Read
I'm writing about 2 male white kittens in Rochester, NY that desperately need a home. I just got a call from a woman about her son who died suddenly and unexpectedly. I don't know the details but I know he had 2 kittens that he loved dearly. He adopted them at 6 weeks old from our local humane society and a few weeks later they both tested positive for leukemia. He had fallen in love with them and decided to keep them, so they have been in a loving home since September. Now that the son has passed, the poor boys have no home. The family called about taking them to our humane society and they said they would euthanize them. The family is devastated and just wants to find a home for these 2 cats. I am pregnant and have lost my job because of being so sick and there is just no way I can add 2 more to my batch right now. I have been in bed sick for the past 18 weeks and can't even think about introducing 2 cats right now. I feel awful for this family and for these cats that are so sweet and full of life. I know it is a long shot but can anybody take them? I would help set up transport to get them to a new home. Amy Weygandt Woof Wagon www.woofwagon.com __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: ImmunoRegulin for Chelsea?
Cindy, That's wonderful news about Smokey! How long does the vet intend to keep him on Winstrol? I know there are people that treat with equistim, (Immuno Regulin), as a preventative, but because it is a bacteria used to stimulate the immune response, I would think it wouldn't be something that you would want to keep Smokey on indefinitely either. Please tell us more about the protocol you and your vet have chosen for Smokey. Thanks, Nina cindy reasoner wrote: Hi, My Smokey has been on equistim for about 2 months now. He had been tested for felv when I first got him and it was negative but after about a month he started getting fevers. After alot of medications to get the fever down only to have it go back up again the vet decided to check for felv again. This time it was positive. This vet didn't seem to be the best at handling felv+ kitties so I changed vets. The new vet started him on the equistim. The first week I believe he got an injection for 4 or 5 days and now he gets 2 injections a week. He gets them subq. The vet lets me give them to him at home. He also goes to the vet every 2 weeks to get an injection of Winstrol. He has been doing great. He hasn't had a fever since we started him on the equistim. He is gaining weight and has started playing now. He has a great appetite. I hope this helps. Cindy
