Re: OT - ARGH to Pet Health Pharmacy

Hey Kelley,

I am sorry you are having troubles with this pharmacy.
I've been ordering Julie's meds for over a year from
them, and I have always gotten fantastic customer
service, they ship very quickly, and they are less
expensive than anywhere else I've looked. Have you
checked with them to see if they didn't make some
mistake? Did the interest rate on the meds go up this
week, like they did on my damn credit card??!!! lol.

about a year (not confirmed by IFA test) lived with Timmy and Sweet Pea from
the time they were about 5 months. Smudge tested negative at 2 1/2.

OT: To shelter owners/volunteers-your opinion needed on site visit for Maltese shelter

2007-04-12 Thread wendy
Hey guys,

I went on my first site visit tonight with my friend
who lives here in San Antonio. The only real concern
she and I both had were that the family already has 5
dogs and 5 cats. They live in a regular subdivision
home in San Antonio (regular size plot-nothing too
large, although the backyard is nicely sized). The
municipal code says that no more than 5 dogs and 3
cats be in one home at a time. So our question,
especially to shelter owners/volunteers, is this: if
you know adopting a dog out, even if it's to a good
family, will put that family in violation of city
codes, would you do it? My friend is not the one
making the decision; she's just reporting the
information to the shelter. We were just curious as
to what your thoughts are on this.

:)

Cricket, who passed away in Nov. of 2005, was 4.5
years old. He was diagnosed at 2.5 years, when he
developed an infection unrelated to the FeLV, but I
did not take the diagnosis seriously until he got sick
in September of 2005. It's a long story, but
basically I thought he had a false positive because of
the circumstances and incompetent vet.

Tomi and Kisa are both about 2.5 years old. I found them when they were
approximately 2-3 months old.

They were both diagnosed with FeLV five weeks ago. My guess is that one of
them had the virus before we took them in, and gave it to the other one
since they spend so much time together.

Tomi is anemic and had a transfusion 5 weeks ago, so he is symptomatic. So
far, he's not really getting better. I have a vet appointment tomorrow to
see where his red blood count is at, but i'm not expecting good news. He
seems very lethargic lately, and needs some encouragement to eat.

Kisa is healthy, active, and into trouble every time I turn around. So i'm
crossing my fingers that she remains that way.

Tucson - indoor only cat since she was an 8 week old kitty; SNAP test neg at
8 weeks; diagnosed age 5; just turned 9 & is a hefty 18 lbs; vets believe
she was harboring virus all along but first test was done before it would
show up

Romeo - outdoor stray for the first part of his life; never sick in the 2
years I fed him; diagnosed when I brought him in 3 years ago; he's probably
around 8

My 3 negs (10, 7; 5) were all around Tucson from a very young age, were
never vacc for FELV and none tested positive (though I do vacc now).
They've always lived together and when Tucson turned up pos, I did not
separate them...they're all mixed.

Hey Melissa,

We are going to be getting off the topic a bit, but I don't think we
need to be independently wealthy to have shelters. That's why I

Kelley - I hate to say that but your kitty is not urinating because she
does not want not because she cannot -- there is someone on a different
list brought her cat to her vet and kept their two days until he
urinated as he was a CRF kitty -- and I asked her to bring him home
right away, it was his decision as he did not feel comfortable or safe
to pee as a cat will hold to pee more than a day or two -- and as soon
as she brought him home he started peeing like there is no tomorrow --
unless they are doing anything like IV, please bring her home you are
only stressing her keeping there and it's not good for her for whatever
she is dealing with.

I understand it's overwhelming -- I can relate as I have tons of cats to
take care of lots of have certain medical needs and I have a full time
job - but just do what you can-- please don't' think that if you can't
do everything you are supposed to.. it might well as do nothing.. just
do what I can .. I have three kitties right now that I have to assist
feed every day.. and 4 kitties who needs sub q fluid on a daily basis,
and about a dozen that needs different medications (diabetic, CRF,
liver.. and etc..) and it does not always happen the way it's supposed
to.. but it's okay,, just do what I can. You might be more overwhelmed
by a thought of doing 'everything -

Ok, well, I talked to the vet and she still has not urinated (which
has me concerned) but he has come to the conclusion that she is just
one of those cats that wants attention all the time. She has FINALLY
started eating on her own (first time she has done this) but he says
she will watch to see if you are there and if you leave she will stop
eating. She will only eat if you are actively watching her. This is
going to be an issue for me because there is no way I can pay any one
cat that much individual attention. It just physically isn't
possible.

Let me brag about Dixie Louise Doodle Katt, JP. A couple of weeks ago we
were in Louisville where her vets and alternative vet are. Dixie hadn't
been eating well and, therefore, not using her litter box as much as I felt
she should---especially with the recalls. I explained to her
that she either started eating and using the litter box or we were going to
the vet to have her checked out including appropriate blood work to make
sure she hadn't eaten bad food. I put down food and got the nastiest "I'm
eating already" looks. Later on I told an AC what was going on and my
concerned (I live at least 2 1/2 hours from Louisville in a county with 2
vets and no ERs). The AC checked in with Dixie who assured her that she
was very healthy and certainly did not need to go to the vets'. Not too
long afterwards, Dixie decided she needed to demonstrate her health to me.
She made very sure I was watching her as she sat by the stairs, ran up the
stairs at warp speed, somersaulted onto the bed and did all the rolling,
bathing, I feel wonderful things cats do. Needless to say, Dixie won her
reprieve. She sees her alternative vet frequently (more to sooth me than
her) but there is very little she needs from her regular vets and they agree
that there is no reason to stress her out by bringing her in for "check-ups"
and bloodwork when she shows no signs of illness.

A kitty with liver disease (in the beginning stage) also drinks lots of
water, or at least mine did.. I don't know why they still think it's
diabetes when the blood work shows it's not - do you know? You might
want to ask them.

You could give kitty pedilyte - but it will be better if you can give
them subq- with a syringe as they dehydrate so quickly and giving them
orally sometimes is not enough water to compensate the loss-- and
hydration becomes critical for a kitten more than so for a adult kitty.

Hi Hideyo,

I will be picking her up today and ask the vet about fatty liver.

The kittens also have really bad diarrhea and are on albon. I am
going to ask him if I can give them some pedialyte to prevent
dehydration. Could I give Kitty pedialyte? I don't know if she has
dehydration though - she drinks ALOT - which is why they are thinking
diabetes.

Hi Wendy,

He has it written down on Kitty's bloodwork (sorry, there was a pair
of senior owner surrenders turned in to me at the same time. Both are
now pretty gravely ill). I am thinking of not taking in any more
seniors. They do not do well in my home. It is really hard, but
young cats seem to adjust much better and with much less stress. I am
trying to find a foster w/fewer cats so that she could have less
stress, but no one who does rescue has few cats.

When all my dreams come true and I have a full-fledged
sanctuary/adoption center, perhaps I can dedicate a room to seniors
and adjust it to their special needs.

Though I did get Caroline fully adjusted to my home...it took 5
months..and she is only 5.5 years..

contained by anything. She's very smart and has learned how to climb
stairs and she can wiggle under doors. She climbed all the way up
into my *bed*.that is a long climb for such a little girl, not
even a pound...curled up on top of my ear, and went to sleep. A!
So cute!

Nope--good ol' Nebraska! But, now that I know it's a Nigerian scam, it makes
sense. My sis in law had this happen--someone from Britain (supposedly--or
somewhere in Europe) got in touch with her to buy their house--said he was
moving here as a doctor, but was sending someone to inspect the house. He
was also going to send them money for the inspection. They just had to write
a check to the "inspector" from the money that this man would send, which of
course would be in the form of a bad check. Luckily they were alerted by a
realtor about this scam. Melissa

Hi Hideyo,

I will be picking her up today and ask the vet about fatty liver.

The kittens also have really bad diarrhea and are on albon. I am
going to ask him if I can give them some pedialyte to prevent
dehydration. Could I give Kitty pedialyte? I don't know if she has
dehydration though - she drinks ALOT - which is why they are thinking
diabetes.

Hi, Kelley - she vomits because she feels nauseated when the food is put

becomes jaundiced, you will risk losing the kitty.. that's how I lost
mine.

Again, IV is critical right now -- you cannot afford her to be
dehydrated.. and IV will help flush toxins and bile out from the liver
and will make her feel better - there are pepcid injection that you can
give her from feeling nauseated -- but please please ask you vet to give
her IV -- as Wendy says it's a very serious condition.

I will be praying for Joey and Kitty's recovery.

Not yet. She is at the vet tonight. They could not get urine today.
So they are going to get urine, and they syringe fed her for today.

I do syringe feed her, but she vomits it up about half the time.

I think if she does not have diabetes, then they will run a thyroid.
He is ruling out one thing at a time.

Re: suspicious email

2007-04-12 Thread Belinda

 Melissa,
It looks like good old' spam, just ignore it. Any replies will come
through the adoptable board, your email address isn't listed on there so
there is no way for them to directly email you.

Hi all, I have posted two cats (Ashley and Cassidy) on petfinder.org
and Cassidy on the FeLV adoption site. I have to borrow a digital
camera since my flash broke, then I'll have pictures of Nonie (the new
arrival). I received this email twice today:

I have a new email address!

We do the best we can do with what we know at the time. And Bart really

ALL you guys are SO wonderful, compassionate & understanding
It just seems I always tend to kick myself when-ever something comes up w/
my babies(Like my Puma, being diagnosed w/ dry FIP - knowing when I had an
FIP outbreak while fostering, and NOT getting my personal clan tested
just the fosters...I "blame" myself. )
As for Bart coming back as a housecat, I really believe that's possible,
even probably very likely
I "swear" my Timmy came back after I lost my Felv+ Ethan, in a healthy
body.Timmy is so much like Ethan, looks, loving, etc, He's my special
boy...
And, my room mate always comments about how much more I spend on my fur
babies when he does my shopping. The $$'s I spend are way more than I spend on
myself, But, my babies ALWAYS come first
And, now since the MVA, well, money's tight but I refuse to cut back on
their needs. They are, and always have been my life.. That will never
change

And Ginger goes to vet Friday, not tomorrow, (This "memory" thing). I can
only pray for the best. But I am VERY worried, and will blame myself if
it's
"something" I'm responsible for I think we all do that.
Well, this insomniac is going to try to get some rest.
Again, much love & thanks to ALL of you...
Hugs,

Patti & her gang
