Oh, Kelley, it is so hard to lose the little teeny-tinies. It's so hard to lose ANY of our kitties. My sweet velvet-furred Lilibet is curled up between me and my keyboard purring up a storm with her chin in my (other) hand as I type one letter at a time. She rarely does this anymore so I know she is purring for your little Baby and for all your kittens~~and you~~to feel better and to get well soon. They have Big Lives to live! Carol and I spent the day canvasing the buildings and people around the crash site and handing out fliers. We even got a flier to someone that feeds ferals very close by, (hoping that the missing kitties show up at her dishes). The good news is that we did see Little Guy, (the black kitty), no sightings yet of the two gray girls. Little Guy was under a shed type building at an auto body shop directly across from the crash site. I saw him and talked to him, the little dear even double blinked at me, but he was too scared to come out amidst the noise of the yard. We set traps all around the building and are hopeful that we'll get him soon. Hopefully his human daddy will be able to go there tonight and coax him out when things are quiet. My prayers and thoughts are with the family, (humans and fur kids alike). Cyndi, please pass this on and keep me updated. What's the best cat bag? Or something?
Onto my current every-twelve-hours problem: Sammy is just a little demon when it comes to doing anything he does not want to do! I must admit, I certainly don't blame him but he really needs to take his little prednilosone pill and his 1cc of interferon in solution (which I give him at room temp), ack! He was doing quite well with mashed pill and lysine in--mmm!--chicken and his interferon in chicken and heavy whipping cream but NOW of course he has changed his mind. No meddies for HIM, he believes! My mom and I have been carefully restraining him in a soft fleece jacket but now he is beginning to get pretty fed up with that routine. So I looked for cat bags online, ick. I'm a wreck about this! I have never had trouble pilling a cat! I must admit, I greatly admire his feistiness and I'm praying that this extends to his battle with lymphoma. He is such a major character! He sailed once again through his chemotherapy Monday AM and gave me such a piece of his mind on the way home that I let him out of his carrier for awhile--and he was so cute! He wanted to lie in my arms (well, ONE arm) as I drove. After about five minutes, when he decided that checking out my feet would be his next step I had to put him back in his carrier and drive like a normal person--did I mention this was in a sports car with a stick shift?!--and he was MAD! You could hear his little voice go down an octave. It was too funny! (Fortunately I have years of driving one-handed in stick-shifts--my dad taught me how to drive in an MGB. I can hold a cat but I never drive with a phone in my ear. Go figure!) Aside from that, this pilling, etc., is driving me just frazzley! And that is not good for the little one. KMR has NOT BEEN RECALLED
well, susan and i are now famous. here is, as they say, the REST of the story. well, actually, here's the BEGINNING of the story * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ AND CROSSPOST! ESPECIALLY TO ANY LISTS THAT ARE QUOTING SUSAN HOFFMAN OR I Here is the whole story, as known at 4:29ET today, May 1, 2007. on april 26, 2007, something appeared on the www.petconnection.com site that made some of us following this situation closed think that a recall of milk-replacers was POSSIBLE. we did NOT publicize it widely, because it had not happened, there was no evidence that it would happen, and so far it has NOT happened. here is what appeared, in its entirety, on april 26, 2007, as cited. it does NOT say that puppy- or kitten-milk replacer has been recalled; it talks of the similarities between ingredients in the goat's-milk product that WAS and those in other replacers. it suggests that people look into alternatives. today someone (you know who you are; figure you don't want YOUR name all over the net, too!) found the link that has FINALLY appeared about the manna recall (only 4 days late, actually--it just seems forever!): http://www.itchmo.com/read/manna-pro-recalls-young-animal-feed_20070501 you will notice that this manufacturer's recall does NOT appear on the FDA website, and is not considered part of the pet-food case. (yet?) i cannot find anything about a specific KMR recall, but reports are coming in that is quietly being pulled from shelves. based on this article, and from i've learned from breeders, it makes sense, as whey protein seems to be a main ingredient in most milk-replacements. the folks at www.petconnection.com confirm that they have heard the same RUMORS, and are trying to track them down--their resources are much better than mine! PLEASE send the full article to anyone who asks, as i'm now getting copies of my quote to susan from all over the net. the guy who wrote this, incidentally, is the editor at www.netpets.org, who wrote the widely distributed piece this weekend about whether ANY commercial pet food is safe. one site with milk-replacement (and pedialyte!) recipes is http://www.proboneo.org/HelpfulHints.htm PLEASE CROSSPOST THIS RESPONSIBLY, and FULLY there's enough panic. MC *** from http://www.petconnection.com/blog/2007/04/26/pet-food-recall-costco-pulls-product/#comments(comment number 3): I AM SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, BUT FELT IT IMPORTANT FOR THOSE OUT THERE THAT BREED/RAISE KITTENS AND PUPPIES READ IT IMMEDIATELY - URGENT BREEDER ALERT BEWARE PUPPY MILK REPLACERS AND WEANING FORMULA by Robert Jay Russell, Ph.D., Coton de Tulear Club of America President [EMAIL PROTECTED] com www.CotonClub. http://www.cotonclub./ [image: []] http://www.cotonclub./ com April 26th, 2007. I was monitoring a livestock email list today when I noticed a post by one of the members who was looking for milk replacer for her kids (goats). She wrote: Recently I had some kids born and mother refused them. Not having enough milk from mother to feed these kids I went to Milk Replacer. I usually use Land-O-Lakes Kid Milk Replacer but could not find any anywhere. I went to Tractor Supply Company (TSC) and purchased two 10# bags of MannaPro UNIMILK. I have since lost one kid. I happened to be talking to a friend in Indiana about what happened and she asked me what replacer I was using, so I told her…This is when I found out that brand had a RECALL notice. I searched through the information and found that INDEED the bags I purchased were part of that recall. I Called the TSC store and they had no idea anything had a recall on it. I printed the info out and the next day I took everything into the store to prove to them. The recall has been in place since 3-30-07. All the Unimilk was still on the shelf, not taking my word for it. I showed the manager the printout and he searched the TSC website and found no alerts. He said he would give me my money back for both bags but he couldn't do anything about the kid. Yesterday I stopped at a friends house and found they she was using UNIMILK for a calf… She got it at TSC about 2 weeks ago. Why wasn't TSC informed? And then when they were? Why didn't they do anything about it? Dr. Russell continues: I went on the Manna Pro corporation web site today and had a very difficult time finding a tiny button which stated Information about Manna Pro Milk Replacer (nothing about Alert or Recall or Danger). This is what that MannaPro information page stated: Manna Pro has a heritage of quality and takes pride in maintaining the highest quality standards for the products it produces and sells under the Manna Pro brand name. Very recently, a few customers have reported that, when mixed with water, the Unimilk they purchased turns light grey in color rather than the characteristic creamy

Nina, I do have URI in my house, but this kitten did not die of URI. Only one of the 4 I have lost did. One dropped dead for no apparent reason, 1 died of complications from AIHA, this little one died because she was just too small. I read online that kittens who are born at weight less than 3.4 oz have a bad survival rate - this one was 4 oz at 22 days. Don't worry - I am not taking any more in. Re: My precious bottle baby is gone
I did not intend to, but this baby's mom quit feeding her. She went to the vet every day to be fed while I was at work. Normally I do not do bottle babies at all. I haven't since last week and am not until I can get my numbers under control. You mentioned something about sickness in your house, is that just a supposition because you are losing so many, or do you know something for a fact? Have you stopped taking in fosters? You might want to consider that, anyway. You need time to heal and regroup. It's true that we can't help anyone else if we don't take care of ourself first. If you nurture and love yourself half as much as you do your fur friends, it will be enough. My heartfelt condolences Kelly. Never for a moment allow yourself to think that you are doing the wrong thing in engaging in rescue. You might need to step back and not do as much, but it is never wrong to reach out and help. Gather your support group around you, human and furred alike. Your cyber family is here for you too. Any advice would be oh, so appreciated. The frazzled one and Mr. Sammy Smartykat, Taylor Scobie Humphrey [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Re: My precious bottle baby is gone
Aw Kelley, the momma gave up on the baby before you did. Sometimes mommas are wrong, but unfortunately sometimes they're right. Nothing pulls at your heart strings like a little innocent bottle baby.
