Re: Kitten with an enlarged heart...

2007-11-10 Thread catatonya
Hi Liz,

I don't know anything about this. I've never heard of it being 'ok' to have
fluid around the heart. Maybe see an internist? That's what I would do, if
the money was there
Good luck and prayers to this kitten.

Dear friends,

My cat kitty with Felv is doing fine at the moment. But I was wondering if
anyone could give me any information on a kitten with an enlarged heart, also
with some fluid around it.

In the beginning of September my daughter rescued three little kittens all
girls, my new little granfurbabies. One is now 22 weeks and the other two are
now 16 weeks (these two are sisters). My daughter noticed one of the little
sisters (Leia) was making a funny sound periodically so she took her to the vet
today and he x-rayed her and said she had fluid around her heart and that the
heart was also enlarged. The vet said there is no murmur and as far as he was
concerned there does not seem to be any blockage.

He said her heart seems to be working over time this is why it is enlarged, he
told my daughter not to worry unless the little kitten opens her mouth and
starts to pant then she should bring Leia back.

Would anyone have any kind of info on this. I feel (and I could be wrong) that
there may be something else that could be done. The vet said Leia is to young
to be giving any kind of Meds . I don't want my daughter's heart (or mine ) to
be broken if he is wrong.

The vet told my daughter not to worry that Leia could grow out of this.
Enlarged heart with fluid around it...I do feel worried.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank You
Liz.

emancipet is quite a well-known mobile spay/neuter program in texas--with,
as far as i've ever heard, a really good, transparent reputation until now.

it really surprised me that a group that was so well respected would do
this, especially in a place where the tensions are so well-known. i was
im'ing last night with a friend in southern california, asking her about
contacts in TX--she's mostly a feral rescuer, and was active in the hartz
flea-product stuff (ie, not the crowds i generally hang with.) told her some
of the what was going on, and she im'd someone else she knew to see if they
had any contacts in austin: what she got back, IMMEDIATELY, was, there's a
bad shelter there

impossible to know, at this point, what the motivation was. personally,
i wouldn't do anything to jeopardize kelley's chances of reclaiming her
kitties -- so while i might contact emancipet about this AFTER the hearing,
since i don't know what's behind it all.

I haven't followed a lot of this but did ask one of my holistic vets about
essences. She prefers Perelandra (www.perelandra-ltd.com ) over Bach. I
have included the website in case you want to check it out. I know I will be

I'm new here but I think I might be able to help. I was having a similiar
issue with my kids. Waco, 9 yr old siamese who we are pretty sure is FeLV+
started getting real aggressive with 2 of my other weaker, sick cats. Yota, 8
yr old siamese, FeLV+ and Jake, 14 yr old orange tabby with an injured paw.
I've been doing a lot of research into holistic treatments of FeLV because I
had 2 vets tell me there is nothing that can be done for Yota (lympathic
leukemia). I was at Good Earth (the natural/herb store) and was talking with a
very nice sales lady and I happened to mention Waco's aggressive behavior. She
suggested using a flower essense called Vine Essence. According to the book
we were looking at it helps with domination issues. It helps cats who feel
the need to pick on weaker, sick or smaller cats. She suggested putting it in
their water or diliuting it and rubbing it on their ears when getting some luvs
from you. She also told me that it would not affect the other cats if I put it
in their water. The essenses only affect the one with issues. I also found
an article that might help you if this is something your considering :
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_2002_June/ai_86387597 . All I
know is that I used it and it worked. Now when Waco starts playing I AM ALPHA
CAT I either rub some on his ears or put a couple of drops in his liquid
vitamins and all that goes in a dropper straight down the hatch! And I hate to
say this but you might have Penelope checked out. She could be sick or having
issues your not aware of yet. Usually the alpha cats will harrass the weak or
sick. Out in the wild these animals would be killed by the alpha. Just
something to think about.

Also, I was wondering what if any kind of treatments are you giving your
FeLV+ cat?

Ok, guys. I hope someone can figure this situation out, because I'm at my
wit's end. Two of my girls are NOT getting along, and I don't know what to do.
Penelope (FeLV negative, 2 years old, very standoffish personality, not a
friendly type cat, doesn't want to be held, only wants attention when SHE
wants it, a loner, etc) and Grizzabella (FeLV positive, 7 years old, very
friendly, never met a stranger, not so much a lap cat, but doesn't mind being
petted and isn't afraid of strangers at all) are constantly at each other. :(
They never really liked each other, but the last few months it has gotten
progressively worse. To the point that Penelope is afraid to come out of the
bedroom. She was pooping/peeing under the bed. And I know it was just because
she was afraid of Grizzabella and wouldn't come out of the bedroom. We finally
had to put a litterbox in there for her, and food/water.

What I have noticed is they seem to attack each other, depending on their
mood, but one always jumps the other. They can't even pass in the hall without
fighting, and I don't know what to do. There doesn't seem to be any
precursor/cuase. All it seems to take is one of them seeing the other and
they're off. I'm really worried Bella is going to end up scratching Penny and
infecting her. Right now when they start I just put Bella in the guestroom for
a few hours so Penelope can come out of the bedroom, and then when we leave of
the morning I let Bella out and Penelope spends the day in the bedroom. Any of
you guys had any success with behavior modification? I welcome any
thoughts/ideas on what has worked for you guys in the past. Poppy, the third
one in the house proper, gets along with both of them, for the most part. I've
seen Poppy jump Penny a time or two, but certainly nothing like

Dr. Ellen Jefferson created EmanciPET Mobile Spay/Neuter
Clinic in 1999. Dr. Jefferson had spent many years volunteering at
shelters and fostering rescued animals, and she felt that her abilities
as a veterinarian would be used most effectively if she could prevent
unwanted animals from being born in the first place. EmanciPET was
conceived as a high-volume, low-cost spay and neuter clinic that would be
able to serve many different populations through its mobility. Low prices
for spay and neuter surgeries provided an added incentive for pet owners
unable or unwilling to pay conventional fees for these services. Since
1999, over 35,000 animals have been sterilized within the mobile hospital
alone. In April 2005 the City of Austin donated a building for use
as a stationary clinic. The building, EmanciPET World Headquarters, is
located in southeast Austin within the City of Austin Health and Human
Services complex at 7201 Levander Loop. Since opening the stationary
clinic in 2005, EmanciPET has continued to operate its mobile clinic
while steadily expanding capacity for services at EmanciPET World

Since 2001, the City of Austin has funded two free days
each week for pet owners who are residents of East Austin. Currently,
East Austin residents who visit our mobile clinic on Friday or Saturday
can receive free spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccinations, city
registration and microchipping for their pets. In addition to providing
the building for our stationary clinic, the City of Austin allocates
$80,000 per year for these free services in East Austin. This partnership
has resulted in a significant decrease in the number of animal intakes at
Town Lake Animal Center for the zip codes targeted by the program.*

A number of animal shelters and animal welfare organizations in
central Texas use our services. Kyle PAWS, Lago Vista PAWS, and Pet

EmanciPET performs surgeries for Georgetown Animal Shelter, Kyle PAWS

Marble Falls SPCA. By working with us these shelters are able to
sterilize hundreds of cats and dogs before they are adopted. Other

I went to Emancipet's spay/neuter clinic today.

There is a guy there who adopted a kitten from me 2 weeks ago. He will
testify that the cat was healthy when he adopted him.

I'm new here but I think I might be able to help. I was having a
similiar issue with my kids. Waco, 9 yr old siamese who we are
pretty sure is FeLV+ started getting real aggressive with 2 of my
other weaker, sick cats. Yota, 8 yr old siamese, FeLV+ and Jake,
14 yr old orange tabby with an injured paw. I've been doing a lot
of research into holistic treatments of FeLV because I had 2 vets
tell me there is nothing that can be done for Yota (lympathic
leukemia). I was at Good Earth (the natural/herb store) and was
talking with a very nice sales lady and I happened to mention
Waco's aggressive behavior. She suggested using a flower essense
called Vine Essence. According to the book we were looking at it
helps with domination issues. It helps cats who feel the need to
pick on weaker, sick or smaller cats. She suggested putting it in
their water or diliuting it and rubbing it on their ears when
getting some luvs from you. She also told me that it would not
affect the other cats if I put it in their water. The essenses
only affect the one with issues. I also found an article that
might help you if this is something your considering :http://
findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_2002_June/ai_86387597 .
All I know is that I used it and it worked. Now when Waco starts
playing I AM ALPHA CAT I either rub some on his ears or put a
couple of drops in his liquid vitamins and all that goes in a
dropper straight down the hatch! And I hate to say this but you
might have Penelope checked out. She could be sick or having
issues your not aware of yet. Usually the alpha cats will harrass
the weak or sick. Out in the wild these animals would be killed by
the alpha. Just something to think about.

Also, I was wondering what if any kind of treatments are you giving
your FeLV+ cat?

Subject: We are having issues

Ok, guys. I hope someone can figure this situation out, because
I'm at my wit's end. Two of my girls are NOT getting along, and I
don't know what to do. Penelope (FeLV negative, 2 years old, very
standoffish personality, not a friendly type cat, doesn't want to
be held, only wants attention when SHE wants it, a loner, etc) and
Grizzabella (FeLV positive, 7 years old, very friendly, never met a
stranger, not so much a lap cat, but doesn't mind being petted and
isn't afraid of strangers at all) are constantly at each other. :
( They never really liked each other, but the last few months it
has gotten progressively worse. To the point that Penelope is
afraid to come out of the bedroom. She was pooping/peeing under
the bed. And I know it was just because she was afraid of
Grizzabella and wouldn't come out of the bedroom. We finally had
to put a litterbox in there for her, and food/water.

What I have noticed is they seem to attack each other, depending on
their mood, but one always jumps the other. They can't even pass
in the hall without fighting, and I don't know what to do. There
doesn't seem to be any precursor/cuase. All it seems to take is
one of them seeing the other and they're off. I'm really worried
Bella is going to end up scratching Penny and infecting her. Right
now when they start I just put Bella in the guestroom for a few
hours so Penelope can come out of the bedroom, and then when we
leave of the morning I let Bella out and Penelope spends the day in
the bedroom. Any of you guys had any success with behavior
modification? I welcome any thoughts/ideas on what has worked for
you guys in
