breathing
BooBoo is getting worse. I called the vet this morning and he answered the phone and told us to bring him in. He told me he felt it was the anemia getting worse and sadly this sounds like he's at the end stage of this disease. I have to go to work so I just spent some time with him. He's still gasping for air, mouth breathing but was purring and rolled over to be petted. Bob has to take him to the vet and I've instructed him to tell Dr. Gill to treat this if at all possible. I don't care what he has to do. If there is at all a chance he can recover from this setback I want measures taken. I absolutely hate the fact that I can't be home today. Lynne

I recall Isabella had some breathing issues, too. She was anemic. L - Original Message - From: Belinda Sauro [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Monday, February 18, 2008 9:28 PM Subject: Re: breathing issues Lynne, He is gasping for breathe because his anemia is likely getting worse, I would ask the Doc to put him on a fairly high dose of prednisolone, get the compounded version, it is a transdermal gel that gets rubbed on the inside of the ear. If his blood work tomorrow shows his HCT is lower, if it is 10 or lower he would need a transfusion to get him by until the pred and or doxy have a chance to kick in. When my Bailey was anemic, we started him on doxy, pred and eventually epogen, he lived 6 months and finally succumbed to pancreatic cancer. We successfully reversed the anemia but we couldn't find the cancer we were sure he had. His symptoms were different than what Boo is experiencing, but his first symptoms was he quit eating and that is how we discovered he was anemic. -- Belinda happiness is being owned by cats ... Lynne, Give me a call at my home number 740-992-5782. I am an animal scientist with a specialty in physiology and nutrition. I have dealt with many FeLV cases (with much success) and have some suggestions. Looking forward to speaking with you and hoping for Boo Boo's complete recovery. BooBoo today
Well, BooBoo is still with us for the time being anyway. My husband took him in this morning with the instructions to help him, not destroy him so the vet removed 16 ml of fluid from his chest and sent him home with a prescription for Lasix. Bob said he saw his xray and his organs were obscured by the fluid. The vet said we'd know better by the end of the week how well it is working. He's also scheduled to go back next Tuesday for further aspiration if it is necessary. The vet told my husband he knew I didn't want to let him go but told Bob he was at the end stage. Bob tells me BooBoo has filled the litter box with pee this afternoon after the dose of Lasix so I'm hopeful and his breathing has definitely improved. When they got home Bob took him up to bed, came downstairs and there was BooBoo following behind. He then tore into the stairs before boinging up to bed. This from a little guy who was at death's door early this morning. The vet is going to get back to us with the analysis of the fluid. I don't know what difference that will make. My boss is away tomorrow so I am taking the day off to spend with my boys. I don't want to become too optimistic but today is definitely better than yesterday. Lynne
Re: BooBoo today
So glad to hear this. The fluid probably explains the breathing problems. I would strongly recommend calling Karen. She may not check the list again today and you may want to visit with her today?? It's just a wait and see DeDe. He is peeing a lot so this has to be good. He's sleeping now and of course is my husband's best friend because he sees him so much more than me. To Beth
Hi Beth, Nice to meet you! I wish I could recommend a good vet to you, but unfortunately I haven't found one I'd swear by. I have heard great things about the Animal Cancer Center off Greenville Avenue in Dallas, but I'm not sure if they do just routine exams. I have not personally been there though. I bet they could recommend a great internal med vet if you needed one, if they don't already have one on staff. I went to UNT and lived in Denton for the 5 years I was there. Are you there permanently? I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet furbabies. There is a chance that your Manx can throw the virus so don't give up! A great diet and a stress free environment are the two best things you can do for your FeLV+ furbaby. :) Wendy Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world - indeed it is the only thing that ever has! ~~~ Margaret Meade ~~~ - Original Message From: Beth Gouldin [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 10:31:08 PM Subject: Re: CLS Hi Wendy I just saw on your last post that you are in Dallas - I'm in Denton. I just joined this group about a month ago after the loss of one of our babies to FeLV and now we are dealing with it in our almost 7 month old female manx. It's nice to know someone is near by - is there a particular vet that you would recommend in the area (or possibly/hopefully closer to Denton) ? The vet we used has not been extremely helpful or informative, simply because I don't think that they have seen many cases that have positive outcomes (their first advice for a symptomatic cat was to PTS) So far, she is asymptomatic - save for the occasional runny nose/eyes which I'm thinking is allergy related because it generally gets worse the same time MY allergies flare up. I've been very lucky to have several live to there teens, But I've also lost many young ones to this terrible illness. Recently I took my 15 year old boy Dooley to a new vet for some dental work . He had been diagnosed with felv when he was 3 years old. Well Dooley is now testing negative . Sometime over the years he threw off the virus. I was shocked and so happy . I was afraid to tell anyone until now I thought maybe something was wrong with the test. So I asked another vet friend of mine to test him again and was told he is negative.
