both he and Rosie sitting at the open slider door screen (it was a nice cool

a few morsels of dry. He slowly improved over the week and we had a vet appt

day-she said she wanted to keep him on it weekly for now until his numbers

 he
crashed with this anemia. Luckily his last CBC on 8/7 stated that the

have the higher calorie wet food from the vet and he really likes it. We are
taking it a day at a time, but he is perking up-he still sleeps alot-but in
 his
usual spots near the desk and he is wanting to stay near us. He isn't up to
leaping for the top of the bookcase yet. When I woke up this morning, he was
jabbering at me, lying between the pillows and watching the young pheasants
eating spilled birdseed from the feeders through the low bedroom window at
 the
head of the bed. We watched the birds for awhile, then I got up-he raced to
 the
kitchen ahead of me, wanting his breakfast! He got his pills and a good
breakfast. I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but today is a good day. He
 is
to stay on the Procrit 3x a week, doxy 2x a day, interferon 2x a day, LTCI
 once
a week, and iron capsules once a day. We will give one more PennG shot for
 good
measure-they last 5 days. I am grateful for your purrayers-I do believe they

[Felvtalk] Please add Rocket to the CLS 6/06 - 8/10

2010-08-16 Thread Sharyl
Rocket had a bad week. She had gotten another Immunoreglin shot last Monday. It
didn't seem to help her at all. She just wasn't interested in eating except for
a little kibble. I tried several times to syringe feed her but she got so
upset. She would start panting like she couldn't catch her breath. We were to
go back to the vet today. This morning she wasn't able to walk very well and
was having problems breathing.

So we made that final trip to the vet. Thankfully my dear neighbor drove us.
Rocket normally starts with heavy breathing when we go to the vet. This morning
was worse than normal. She had a small seizure as we were entering the vet's
office and died there in my arms. Her little heart just gave up. I'm sure she
had some type of tumor. Wasn't anemia like Sissy.

She was such a good girl. Never a big love bug but enjoyed playing with the
feather toy and loved her treats. Even this last week she was rubbing my leg as
I was preparing the food plates. Another reason it was so heartbreaking when
she wouldn't eat.

Rocket is my last FeLV baby. I do feel fortunate to have had her for almost 4
yrs. I 1st met her at the dumpsters July '06. She was one of 5 kittens that
would come running when I showed up with food. Spooky vanished but over time I
was able to trap Rocket, Sissy, Daisy and Mae. Rocket and Sissy became house
kitties. Daisy and Mae were much older when I trapped them and became garage
kitties. Now Daisy's babies and these four are gone. Leaves a big hole in my
heart. At least she had a good life and wasn't sick until these last few weeks.

By sharing her story I am trying to celebrate her life and encourage others to
love their companions each and every day.

Sharyl

Rocket had a bad week. She had gotten another Immunoreglin shot last Monday.
It didn't seem to help her at all. She just wasn't interested in eating
except for a little kibble. I tried several times to syringe feed her but
she got so upset. She would start panting like she couldn't catch her
breath. We were to go back to the vet today. This morning she wasn't able to
walk very well and was having problems breathing.

So we made that final trip to the vet. Thankfully my dear neighbor drove us.
Rocket normally starts with heavy breathing when we go to the vet. This
morning was worse than normal. She had a small seizure as we were entering
the vet's office and died there in my arms. Her little heart just gave up.
I'm sure she had some type of tumor. Wasn't anemia like Sissy.

She was such a good girl. Never a big love bug but enjoyed playing with the
feather toy and loved her treats. Even this last week she was rubbing my leg
as I was preparing the food plates. Another reason it was so heartbreaking
when she wouldn't eat.

Rocket is my last FeLV baby. I do feel fortunate to have had her for almost
4 yrs. I 1st met her at the dumpsters July '06. She was one of 5 kittens
that would come running when I showed up with food. Spooky vanished but over
time I was able to trap Rocket, Sissy, Daisy and Mae. Rocket and Sissy
became house kitties. Daisy and Mae were much older when I trapped them and
became garage kitties. Now Daisy's babies and these four are gone. Leaves a
big hole in my heart. At least she had a good life and wasn't sick until
these last few weeks.

By sharing her story I am trying to celebrate her life and encourage others
to love their companions each and every day.

I received the most beautiful kitten on my doorstep this early morning.  She
was a medium haired spotted girl.  Please help me give her a name as she died
on my lap after all efforts failed within 2 hours of her arrival.  Her right
eye was out of the socket and she had obviously received a tremendous blow.
There was tremendous swelling to the right side of her head (this had not
happened recently-I feel that the eye had popped from the socket from the
cranial swelling).  Believe it or not, she was semi-alert and loving, and cried
for help.  Ice packs were applied to reduce the swelling to the brain, and ALL
of the usual veterinary trauma techniques were used in an attempt to save her.
No kitten should die like this.  Please light a candle for her as if she had
been with a loving person for all of her brief life. I can never get the look
of love and hope  she gave me during her treatment from my mind.

Please, please light a candle to light her tiny way.

[Felvtalk] FeLV Re-testing for kittens

2010-08-16 Thread paola cresti
Hi all,
I volunteer at a kitten rescue organization, and talking about all the loving,
caring people on this listserv the people at the organization were wondering
for
those who have kittens that were tested positive, how often and how many
(average if you've rescued many) turn out to be negative when/if re-tested
later
on?

It would be especially good to know in case we rescue kittens that test
positive. Knowing of actual cases and occasions of kittens that turned out to
be
negative when tested later on would help a lot in dealing with possible cases,
and trying to get them adopted.

thank you so much in advance, and I hope this gets through, several of my
posts/replies to posts haven't been showing up (on my end anyway)

Best
