Hi James. Mail lhas been coming thru, but a bit less than usual. I think this is because people are frantically rushing around during the holiday season. Not me.. I'm with you Lorrie. We opted out of the hustle and bustle of buying gifts for each other and others in 2008 when Frank was laid off 3 days before Christmas :( Now, we spend time with family and friends and our furbabies but we do not buy into the commercialism that Christmas has become. [Felvtalk] Update on Homey
My vt just called with the culture report and they found no bacteria. Did a culture for all of them. Sort of good news/bad news. He has an artcle and when finished reading it, will copy for me. She may have Pandora's syndrome or 1 of several other problems. We don't think it i this syndrome as se has a fairly enriched life. The whole house to roam, toys, 7 boxes, 8 beds to pick from + my bed and lap. When it is not raining, snowng or I am at home, she gets to go out and hunt or just lie in the sun on the deck( 53'x 8'). Toys all over the house, not to mention the other cats to case and play with. So now we are stating to look for other reasons the crystals keep coming back. I have statd adding vinegar to their drinking water and sice we like oranges and grapefruit, let her have a bit when I have mine in the morning. We are all on Hill's SD (1 can + 2 cns hot water). Then I spoon some into all bowls. They drink the liquid first and laer g back and eat the meat. Trying to fin alternative to SD. Petsmart has Royal Canin so will try it next. Rigt now, t is cold, cloudy and I still haven't been abe to fix the garage door so won't be oing out for anything today. Please excuse the erros, Dee is helping me. She likes to stand on the desk and swish her tail back and forth. Ever try to see over a cat? Also have to wash all 8 bs as Homey pees in them during these bouts with the crystals. Have to spray with Natur's Miracle and let it sok for a couple of hours nd then wash. In a way, I am glad I am nt working. This taking up a lot of my time between research, new feeding schedules and cleaning up after Homey's accidents does not leave much for anything else. As far raw diets go, I get nature's menu from a local store in Wisconsin. You would probably have to order via the web and have it sent. Otherwise, Bravo raw diet should be at most small holistic type animal stores. You can do a google search for where bravo is sold in your area. Fromm and Orijen should be at most of these types of animal stores as well. As far as the cranberry goes, I got the capsules with the powdered cranberry inside (you can get at any grocery store for the most part). I put a very small amount (about 1/8th of the capsule and mix it in with the moist or raw food. Some cats absolutely refuse it so don't. If they absolutely refuse it, I have used plain canned tuna and mixed it in that. Otherwise Fromm has a diet with cranberry mixed in. I'm not a great fan of SD, but before I used the raw diet, I used the C/D and it did work and they did eat it, but it's just not as good for their overall health and the second I would use any other food the crystals came back. Raw diet allows for a wide variety of food types. Be warned, however, it will take one to two months before the problem truely resolves. I would leave out dry food like Fromm or Orijen if you do the grazing type feeding and then give raw every evening and canned wet in the morning mixing in the cranberry whenever possible, or some variation thereof. The last time, she refused the SD, bt it had been sitting on the floor of he van onthe way home so was nice and warm. She and others ate it up. I also got some SD dry just in case she decides she does not like the canned. Thought about mixing dry into wet. Where can I get these other foods you menioned? As to cranberry, tried giving her some and only way to get it in her was to spend 20 minutes trying to catch her and rub t on her feet. Every cat that has ever been brought to me with crystals has responded to diet with complete eradication of crystals (make sure you know what type of crystals you're dealing though). Raw diet is the key. If you can't do raw, the high quality canned foods like Fromm, Go, Wellness work quite well. You can still do some dry but it has to be the good stuff - Orijen or Fromm would be my recommendation. I always add some cranberry to it if they'll take it just to avoid UTIs. It takes about four weeks if the crystals are bad and in the meantime you have to make sure they do not become obstructed (that often takes vet strength food or catheter or suprapubic taps.
