Re: [Felvtalk] Treatments

I have used it and it really didn't seem to help much at all. I wouldn't
say that $180 for 50 ml is not expensive. Not too bad per shot, but a lot
up front. I had heard that Best Friends used it on their FeLV+ cats and I
finally got their vet to answer me about it. He said they use it because
that was what was being done when he took over. He had no idea why they
were using it.

No experience with ImmunoRegulin, and my vet had never used it on cats. I
spoke to one vet six years ago who felt like it was useful, though not a
cure. If the archives are searchable, you might try looking there. Also, I
think one member (I don’t remember who) said that she was keeping it in
reserve at her vet’s in case she needed it.

It isn’t expensive, and I don’t think it requires a prescription.

I have always used the Walmart brand (Equate) cream for foot fungus and it has
worked very well. Not messy and doesn’t smell bad and is cheap.

Time for a vet check. Without any more info than this I would lean toward a

Re: [Felvtalk] results from the snap and IFA tests

2013-05-11 Thread gcruser

Lorrie,

Sorry for your loss. I also sanctuary FeLV+ cats and find that if it is
contracted as a kitten, at least 70% will pass before their first birthday.
I have one I got when he was about 4 months and he is now almost 5 years
old. I have a mother and two of her kittens that all tested positive and I
have had them for 4 years. Just lost a couple I got as adults had them for
3 and 4 years. Sometimes they go very quickly and sometimes not. People
ask me how I can do this, I just say how can I not. It is definitely not
something for everyone though.

There may still be a bit of controversy about slight positives but I think
it is like a pregnancy test, you can't be slightly pregnant.

I was optimistic enough to believe a slight positive meant the cat might be
throwing off the virus... Not so. My cat, aged 10 months, whose 2nd
Elisa test was a slight pos. died as did all his other litter mates who were
FelV pos. The vet says they probably got the virus from their mother, as
they were feral rescues. I have a FelV sanctuary and it is heart breaking
work. I give them as good a life as I can, with no cages, but they rarely
live longer than a year..

[Felvtalk] Diarrhea

2013-05-11 Thread gcruser
This really is not about FeLV+ cats. I have 2 adult kitties with very bad,
long term diarrhea. Both have no fever, no worms and no parasites. They
have both had antibiotics, endosorb, pumpkin, and one has had pro pectilin.
These kitties are not related and didn't live in the same place. The vet
seems stumped and now has them both on metronidazole in case of some type
of viral eneritis, they both got a steroid shot to reduce any inflammation.
There does not appear to be any improvement in either cat. Any suggestion
would be very welcome.

Thanks,
Gary

Re: [Felvtalk] seeking advice for treating FeLV positive old CKD cats with the new drugs

2013-04-26 Thread gcruser
I have tried IR, but it did not have any noticeable effect on my cats, the
experience of othe. There were one or two places selling it in the US asrs may
be different. I used Acemannan several times to reverse anemia with good
success. Unfortunately, the company who made it went bankrupt and it is no
longer available as far as I know. Interferon Alpha is human injectable
interferon diluted way down and given orally to cats. There were one or two
places in the US selling it in the diluted form a couple of years ago, but I
don’t know who sells it now. Interferon Omega is feline interferon and is
available from the UK. At one time it was difficult to import, but supposedly
pretty easy now. It is more expensive, I seem to remember a minimum order was
around $400 some time ago. If your cat has kidney failure, that can cause
anemia as the kidneys produce a substance called Ethropoietin which is needed
to produce red blood cells. Sometimes using Epogen or a similar drug will aid
this process in cats with kidney failure.

Thank you for all the friends providing your precious thoughts for Meowko. She
seems doing fairly well today - she finished up almost a whole can for today's
dinner!

I brought up using ImmunoRegulin, Acemannan, Interferon Alpha etc. with our vet
yesterday. She however concerned about the safety of using ImmunoRegulin as she
learned some reactions after injection may occur earlier. But she is very
willing to listen to other people's experience and work with us.

Does anyone have experience of using ImmunoRegulin on your FeLV cat? have you
observed any issues/side effects after injection? (if you have gone through
treatment plan by using ImmunoRegulin with your vet, may I possibly know where
your vet is based, off the list, so that my vet may learn from your vet's
experience as well?)

Again, thank you very much (reading the responses does make me feel that Meow
and I are not alone in this battle)

lot of ringworm, I woiuld also bathe them with Nizoral shampoo, not to
expensive and available in the dandruff shampoo area at Walmart.

[Felvtalk] article on stomatitis cure

2013-01-28 Thread gcruser
Hi,
I am trying to find a research article on a cure for stomatitis. I had a copy
of this a couple of years ago, but lost it in a disk crash. The article was in
German, but there was a summary in English. I can’t seem to find this anywhere.
It was supposedly just one shot given just behind the back point of the jaw.
