Re: OT: blue star ointment made RW worse?
I think calicos do have sensitive skin. Mine does, and a friend's too. I've not heard about the natural 'life cycle'. My understanding is that the spores live for months so that the ringworm keeps coming back? tDel Daniels [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, but will little Emily still have a face left? Re: OT: blue star ointment made RW worse?
Oh, yes, I am on two FIV lists (6 years)but my FIV+ are on Itraconazole. Emily is negative for FIV/FeLV. Her eyes are okay, don't care about fur loss, she does havetwo mountain range scabs and other scabs; this am an oozy area and she whacks at it with her back foot ... told her that was a no-no. If no improvement in another day she will begin an abx. I am oh-so ambivalent about continuing the fulvicin ... it seems to do no good and yet would it be worse if they were not on it ... no one can answer that. Del - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Sunday, November 06, 2005 9:37 PM Subject: Re: OT: blue star ointment made RW worse? How bad is her face now? Does she have open wounds, or is it justirritated and hairless? I speak from personal experience... losing hair is not that bad of a thing, my Mythic cat's allergies are so bad he is often half bald... on his entire body. It will grow back eventually (RW is temporary, unlike my poor Mythic's allergies, which are chronic). I would only worry a lot if it is causing her to get irritated in her eyes (like eruptions on the inside of the eye lids), or if it is open wounds. From what I have heard, some of the treatments for RW are 10 times more dangerous than the condition itself. On the FIV+ list a few months back there was a RW discussion, and it was noted that the medication you said your cats are on (I don't recall the name now, but I recognized it in your email) has been proven to kill FIV cats. FELV is not that much different from FIV in regards to immune system responses. You could join that group and ask them there for more info... I don't recall the details now. Have you tried diluted bleach? It may dry out your skin in that spot, but it should kill the fungus. I may have it here too, Bones has lost several round patches on fur on her neck this past month. So far, no signs of it in the others, so I'm hoping it's just where the other's bit her. Jenn, I have a new arrival at my house with a bald patch on his ear. As soon as all this talk of rw surfaced on the list, I started itching! N [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Have you tried diluted bleach? Re: OT: blue star ointment made RW worse?
Yup, tried the diluted bleach ... unsuccessful. I don't mind rw on myself, but sure wish I could get the kitties healed. Probably not enough cleaning. Ugh! Poor little Emily, she was clear for 21 days while I continued to give her the oral Griseofulvin and topical lotrimin liquid where the rw had been. Day 22 - her whole forehead broke out worse than before and still a mess overa week later. Someslight healing and yet this morning a new oozing patch. It took two months+ to catch this little feral and she has lived with us13 monthsnow, very sweet and lovingyet somewhat skittish. On the whole all but one ofmy furkidstake their meds well. RW teaches us perserverance. OT: blue star ointment made RW worse?
I am forwarding this email from FIV posting just as FYI . From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 04, 2005 12:00 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [FivCats] Re: OT: ringworms in kittens I bought the Blue Star ointment and used it on my cheek (hug those rw kitties and this is what I get) but it didn't phase the itchiness and the next morning it was worse. Not a believer here. Darn shame, too. It makes no claims for treating rw, only relieves itch of minor irritations. Did I buy the right thing? The camphor smell would be turn off for a few of my cats, too. Del YAHOO! GROUPS LINKS Visit your group FivCats on the web.
