Hey,As far as I know nothing else is going on. We've run bloodwork several times. He did have a bout with bartonella a while back. I really don't know what his blood pressure is. I just know when he started losing his sight they ran all kinds of bloodwork on him and said the only thing wrong was that his blood pressure was 'through the roof' and causing bleeding in his eyes. He was supposed to be on norvasc, but it was such a pain to get him to take it I had decided to let it be. After that I played around with the med. some more and finally got him to take it in some fancy feast, so he takes it now. His last checkup the doctor said his blood pressure looked good.. but he still seems to be losing sight to me. I'm taking him in next month for a recheck on that and the bartonella as well. We'll see then. He's about 11 years old or so. He's lost weight. but not rapidly. I feel like something else is going on that we haven't found. We even ran another leukemia test just to check, but he's still negative.He can see some. It's kind of like he misjudges distances, etc. when he jumps on the sofa or whatever. Hideyo,YOU didn't take away his sight. His high blood pressure did. I went through this with Popeye. He refused his medicine and after a while I noticed he was going blind. I'm giving him medicine now and he's regained some sight, but he still won't always take his medicine so we just do what we can. I took his vision away from him... this is so very hard, Nina I wanted to make the rest of his life so comfortable instead,, I took his sight away.. only if I were more careful.. Hideyo, I wish you would cut it out with blaming yourself for things that are beyond your control. The only way that any of this is at all your "fault" is that you gave Hannibal the opportunity to live long enough to make it to this stage in his life. You and Hannibal have a special relationship, he knows, (better than you apparently), that everything you do for him and all those in your care, is done out of love and concern. I know how hard you try to limit medications with side effects, how important it is to you to try "alternative" type methods that are less harsh on their bodies and spirits. There is no way for you to know that rushing him to the vet sooner would have changed what's going on. You make yourself crazy with this type of logic. You don't want to stress him out unnecessarily with vet visits, and when you don't rush him in, when all you were trying to do was make his life less stressful, you "feel awful" for not being psychic enough to know that it may have been better if you did. How in the world could you be more "careful"? You're already the most caring human I know! It won't do you or your babies any good to beat yourself up, you can't change the past anymore than you can predict the future. Right now is all you have, please shake off this feeling of guilt and go from here. Keep making the best decisions you can, decisions based in the best intentions, one moment to the next, one decision to the next. That's all any of us can do. We can not know everything. Now you know. If you had brought him to the vet and it was nothing, you would have felt bad about stressing him unnecessarily. We are always walking this fine line with our positives and ferals.
