Re: Those who don't use Interferon
So, Leslie, Tell us do! How did the introductions go?? Hideyo, what side effects are you talking about with interferon use? I know you mentioned that before, but I hadn't heard any other mention of it. Every vet I've talked to has either been for it's use, or at least been convinced that it wasn't harmful in any way. I've always used human interferon when my cats become symptomatic. Because of the resistance factor, I thought it was better, (just in case it does help boost their immune response), to use it when they need it most. Gloria could be right in using it continuously. Who the hell knows? The unpredictability of this disease keeps us guessing and relying on instinct and faith to do our best to combat it. I have the cats on one immune booster supplement, Feline Immune Support http://www.standardprocess.com/vet_catalog_product_detail.asp , and am working with my vet to determine if we should add another, virolyte http://www.thorne.com/index/mod/vet/a/virolyte, an herbal tincture, or Interferon. I'm not going to do all of them so will compare costs and advice to decide. On an unrelated note, Satchmo and Beatrix will be introduced today! Bea is allowed out into my bedroom today, then when I get home, I'll switch them (Bea in the kitchen/living room, Satch in the bedroom/bathroom), and after a couple of hours for them to restabilize, I'll switch back briefly, then introduce! So excited! Leslie

Re: Those who don't use Interferon
Hideyo - that is the game plan that my vet and I have decided on. Both cats will be on the immune support tablets, Satch will also be getting some asthma stuff that might or might not be permanent, it remains to be seen, but it also contains some immune supporting supplements that will complement the tablets. I'll have the virolyte, which is strong and shouldn't be used continuously, and the interferon on hand in case things turn for the worse. Michelle - thank you for responding. Gloria - where do you get your interferon from? Do you mind me asking what it costs you? I found the cost to be too prohibitive to administer continuously. Re: Those who don't use Interferon
I stopped using it because I could not see any positive effects it was having (which is not to say there weren't any) and I thought it might be bothering Lucy's IBD.
