Same problem here with the epson list. My emails just don't get
through.

I had a similar problem with an epson-inkjet list message, so I'm
afraid its somehow related to Mitchell Leben's server(s).

Short of, or in addition to, using to a Mac, aren't there other
strategic advantages we can give ourselves in re worms, viruses, etc.?

Someone said that reading list mail on Yahoo rather than first-hand
would do it in the case of those lists? If so, would it work for
other lists?

From my own experience, I have the impression than an alert and
resourceful ISP can intercept, as mine does, the problematic mail?
I'd switch rather than risk infection.

Reading about other problems makes me think that most such things can
be avoided by using Eudora instead of Microsoft's Outlook for e-mail
software? I think Rafe said so on this list. You can use Microsoft's
Internet Explorer w/o using Outlook; I do, although I wouldn't if I
knew of a good and promising replacement for it.

Yup, it's dead. Maybe it's the dreaded code orange epson fade? ;)

Maybe they got the kinks worked out of it but it left such a bad taste in my

I use McAfee on my home machine. It's the same deal, $40 a year and daily updates. I
haven't noticed any impact on my system's performance and it's saved my bacon a number
of times.

I'm currently using AVG Anti-virus System, Free Edition from www.grisoft.com The
updates are not daily, but come out as required, AFAICS.

FWIW, McAfee shuts me down using graphics on a small RAM base. For some
unknown reason, it makes backups of each scan as I do them, and crashes the
program (sometimes the system) after one or two scans. That might not be a
problem if I bought more RAM, but I bought Norton, instead.

I have it running on several PC's, including a pathetic P133 laptop. The
only time I notice any slowdown is when it is scanning downloading mail, by
about 50%.
