Title: Re: filmscanners: How do I pull shadow detail from Nik That's on a G4 800 DP with 800MB allocated to PS6! It is the deatil issue that's my main objection and I see no reason to have to use 16x. -Andy Darlow More RAM Richard Corbett - Original Message - From: Andy Darlow To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 30, 2001 3:19 PM Subject: filmscanners: How do I pull shadow detail from Nikon4000 For some reason, I can't adjust any of the setting in the Nikonscan software to pull out shadow detail at 1-4x. I can't endure the 16x scanning times. Even if I adjusted the black points, it made no difference. Do I need to use Vuescan or is there another way? What film are you scanning - is there an obvious reason why it is very dense? Like Velvia, K25, Provia 100F? Rob It is 100ASA Ektachrome. No real reason for the blocked up shadows. -Andy Darlow

Andy writes ... For some reason, I can't adjust any of the setting in the Nikonscan software to pull out shadow detail at 1-4x. I can't endure the 16x scanning times. Even if I adjusted the black points, it made no difference. Do I need to use Vuescan or is there another way? Trying Vuescan would be suggested. I've been playing with Nikonscan 3.1.1 and my Ls-2000 since its release, and I still see evidence of posterization that Vuescan doesn't show. The artifacts I'm refering to are especially noticable in skin tones, but Ns could be affecting other tones as well ... and since Vuescan implies my scanner is ok, I suspect the software ... and it could be affecting your model as well. shAf :o)
