There may be something in what you just wrote.

This is just a guess, but is there a general split between Mac- and
PC-heritage users on this issue? Have Mac users have become accustomed to
copy protection over the years, while PC users have been acculturated away
from it? I have been a composer, writer, editor, programmer, publisher, and
designer using exclusively unprotected software right from the days of my
first (non-geek) machine in 1979 (graduating from TRS-80s to PCs, and never
using Apples or Macs). Except for gaming (which I've never done), it's not
until recently that I've heard much about copy protection for PC programs,
whereas it seems to have been a fact of life for my Mac-using friends.
Programs like Graphire with dongle protection seemed an anomaly in the PC
world. (But Graphire, like many of the protected programs, started out as a
Mac port.)

This is not a Mac/PC troll. I'm just wondering if that observation is true.
It would go a long way to explain a mutual difference in discomfort levels
with copy protection, outside
political/legal/philosophical/ethical/financial concerns.

Thanks -- it seems that the only thing which has changed in the license
is that Coda has been changed to MakeMusic.

Actually, the end-user isn't in the table of contents and it isn't in
the index and it isn't in the first chapter -- it's before the first
chapter, and before How to Use the manual and before What's New, but I
did find it. Wonder why they don't index it or list it in the table of
contents? Maybe they don't want to draw attention to it?

Re: [Finale] (no subject)

2003-08-12 Thread Richard Huggins
In the extensive hash of this subject, I've lost sight of how the below part
works. I *KNOW* that the computer I now use will be replaced before I get
through using F2K4 but after I purchase it. I thought I understood that
somehow the program could be/would be de-activated on the old machine
through some sort of authorization transfer, thus leaving me STILL with two
authorizations possible. The statement below sounds like I'll lose one when
I change machines. Surely I am not understanding it right.

It's a little like kidneys: two are best but one will work, though from that
point on you'd worry about losing that ONE! I prefer always to be able to
have two, whether it's authorizations OR kidneys...

Really? I've re-registered my copy of Sibelius on the internet by filling in their
form, and I got my registration number emailed to me right then and there, within
seconds. I was up and running again within about 5 minutes.

Maybe it's different when you register for the first time. I initially registered by
fax, but still got a reply within one working day.

Best,
