RE: [Finale] Margins, Left and Right 9 x 12

2003-01-11 Thread Fisher, Allen
Hi Benjamin,

Can't help you with number one (I think it depends on the number of pages if
you want to do binding that actually creeps)

For #2, Finale always considers the first page in the file as a right page,
no matter what your page offset (Text menu--Edit page offset) is. You can do
one of the following:

Adjust left pages and always remember in your head that left pages are
actually right pages in the file (I personally don't do this because I
sometimes loose track)

 or---

Insert a blank page at the beginning of your score. This will shift the
pages in such a way that you can do your margin adjustments. Then delete the
blank page after you're done so your page numbers are correct.

If you really are numbering from one, and making page one a left page, I'm
not sure that's standard...

Hope this helps...

Allen

Subject: [Finale] Margins, Left and Right 9 x 12

I'm laying out a vocal/piano/flute score in tabloid (9x12) size, with First
page as left, and have two questions:
1. What are the respective industry margins (if any) for (a) lefthand and
(b) righthand pages, to accomodate binding?

2. I tried from page layout view Edit Page Margins, right pages only (page
2) but this re-did the margin for page 1 as well. What Have I done wrong or
need to do?
Thanks,

Others have correctly answered your direct question. This response is a
tangential comment. First of all, check your math. The last time I checked, you
would need to change the margins to 0.75 on a side (not 0.7), if you didn't want
to affect your layout in this situation.

One of the purposes of my Page Mover plugin is to keep you from *having* to do
such math. In this case, the math is easy, but in many cases it's a pain in the
@!!#@, esp. if you want to change paper sizes too, or if you want a gutter
margin for binding.

Any default setting you can set and save in your default template. Open
a blank document from your default template, make the changes and save
it as a template with the same name, replacing the current one.

I adjust to 0.7 each side and this gives me what I want. Actually it gives
0.7114 or similar- but that's OK. It gives me centralised printing instead
of offset to the right.
Can I set this as permanent default?
It's no great hassle to adjust, but I'd like it as default.

Those values are what is set in your template. Whoever created your
template chose those values.

Options-> Document Settings -> Page Format for Score will let you set the
default page margins for a document. Enter whatever values you like. Make
the change on your template file and it'll be set for all your new
documents as well.
