My objection to these meters is that they tell you what the

I would much prefer something like:

3+2+3+2+2
-
8

to anything over /12.

I heard 'ax' many, many years ago, but also 'woodshedding' (where,
perhaps a pocketknife would be useful for whittling, but an axe is
preferred for serious work). Not a clue as to the origins of 'ax' in
any case. Gotta run now - got a gig!

On the off chance that
this is not a joke, the actual line is "I've come to wive it wealthily in
Padua," and comes straight from Shakespeare. Petrucchio has come there to
find a rich wife, regardless (as he explains in the rest of the song) of her

[Finale] GPO trumpets

2005-07-18 Thread Jim Williamson

Does anyone know how the trumpets sound in the
included 2006/GPO package.

Or, does anyone know when the jazz library or the
maeching library will be avilable.

Darcy, I suspect you know at least how the
trpts sound in 2006. The on board Fin.2005 sounds are very weak. I do more
marching band, big band & horn section for sessions than any other writing
work. For years, I've been using 2 Rolland U-220's, 2 Proteus's and a Korg O1WR
because I've needed more honkin' type sections. Now desktop real estate is an
issue and I just want to get rid of all that stuff.

Also, another problem that's been discussed (but
I'm not clear if it's being addressed), is the future of accessing more than one
sound source in Fin. playback. In particular, the on board marching perc. sounds
in 2005 (Roll-Loff) are great but, will I be able to use them in conjuntion with
Garritan marching horns?

Thanks for your input,

Jim

I vote that we bring the word "swyve" or "suive" if you prefer, back into common usage.

John Barth attempted to do this 40 years ago, in The Sotweed Factor. The book (set in 18th-c. Maryland) employs the word very frequently, and ends with these appropriate lines:

Labor not for earthly glory,
Fame's a fickle slut, and whory.
>From thy fancy's chast couch drive her.
He's a fool who'll strive to swive her!

The Sotweed Factor was a best-seller in its day, but Barth's revival of "swive" never escaped its covers.

When I do this the F sharp and the G sharp swap position.

Well, I wouldn't have said anything even in private, offlist email

hope) MakeMusic will forgive my indiscretion in this case. I know this
is something every GPO-using Mac user is extremely concerned about, and
so I wanted to let David know he has something to look forward to in 2k6.

Well, others have been talking specifically about Fin2k6 as if they'd
been using it for a while, so I don't think your little slip-up is any
