Have you tried loading the jazz font chord library that is in your
libraries folder? Most of what you want is in there I believe..

Editor and arranger is W Livingston Gearhart, publisher Shawnee Press. The
only supplier I found in a Google search was MusicRoom (www.musicroom.com),
but June Emerson (www.juneemerson.co.uk) has it also. Both quote prices in
UK pounds but deliver worldwide. I particularly like the trios, LG's
arrangement of "Little Brown Jug" and the Palestrina Madrigal, which I used
to play with my son and daughter on horn, trombone and bassoon.

June Emerson's Brass catalogue has over 250 trombone quartets in it.

Still on this subject: There are bugs (in my experience).

Save score with correct staff styles, print parts (to pdf, in this
case), parts are correct, close score, re-open two days later and
print parts, some staff styles have wandered to incorrect places.

Nothing was done to the score in the interim, no editing - nothing.
This is buggy, no question about it.

are part of the Music Sales Group. Their address and other contact

As an aside, in case anyone is actually interested, the Shawnee Press
reference reminded me of this. Virginia Morley and Livingston Gearhart
were at one point in their careers the duo pianists with Fred Warning and
the Pennsylvanians. They were also married to each other, at least until
Fred stole Virginia away and married her. Gearhart was subsequently one of
Waring's stable of very good arrangers, as duo piano duties were taken
over by Webb and Hornibrook, who both ended up teaching at Indiana
University. The list of very fine musicians who were associated with Fred
and his organization at one time and went on to very distinguished
personal careers is quite long, and includes Robert Shaw.

you can also set the style to be non-copyable

Again, if I recall correctly, the problem is triggered by copying
staff styles in the score. I believe the workaround is to always
deselect "Staff Styles" in "Items to Copy," and instead apply staff
styles in the score using metatools.

Re: [Finale] Cahnge chord suffixes in multiple files?

2007-04-04 Thread Chuck Israels

Henrik,

It can be done, but not globally (all at once).

Import the library with the new suffixes you want. They will appear
in the document's chord suffix library list below the ones that are
already there. Click on a spot that doesn't have a chord to bring up
the selection dialog, making sure you have "show advanced" open in
the chord selection window. Click on "select" (down at the bottom)
and you'll get the entire list. Delete each unwanted suffix in turn,
and you will be asked which suffix you want to replace it with.
Scroll down the list to the new suffix you want and select it.
Repeat the process until done. Takes a few minutes for each
document, and it's a pain, but I don't know any other, more
efficient, way do accomplish this.

Not as easily as all that, but it can be done.

You have to open a file, import the library, then go to the Chord
Suffix Selection dialogue box and delete each old suffix in turn. You
will get a message that the suffix is being used if it appears in the
score, and do you want to replace it. Say yes, and find the NEW
imported suffix, then OK your way back to the Chord Selection
dialogue box and repeat for the next suffix.

Now, I have done this so often that I see a way to make it a lot
faster with a small programming change. If the warning said, Suffix
"X" is being used, do you want to replace it? then I could have
selected a whole bunch of suffixes at once and deleted them as a
group. Whenever it came across one that was being used, I would be
asked and the suffix identified. Right now the suffix is NOT
identified, and I run the risk of replacing the wrong one. If the
program worked as I suggest, I wouldn't have to delete them one at a
time.

If all your songs were in ONE file, then you would only have to do
this once for the document. As it stands, you have to repeat the
whole procedure on each file. It should only take about five to ten
minutes for each file (less if there aren't many different suffixes
being replaced), but I know, you could be relaxing and having a beer
instead...

Darcy et al,

Yes, I will test for that as soon as I finish this current chart (due

The workaround is a pain, as I often have areas where the overlapped

be able to choose Reset Staff Styles to Score to avoid it, shouldn't I?

These two things are related. A staff style entered in a part
will only appear in the part, and it can only be cleared from the
part. A staff style entered in the score will appear in both
score and part, and clearing it from the score clears it from the

So clearing all staff styles from the score should clear all
staff styles from the parts -- EXCEPT for staff styles which were
entered directly into a part to begin with.

I understand this, except I DIDN'T enter any staff styles in the
parts at all in the original piece, just in the score. That's why
it's a mystery to me why the styles didn't clear in the parts when
I cleared the score.
