compressed TIF straight out of MSPaint

Um, TIF is not an MSPaint format -- it is a standard graphics format
that is not proprietary nor connected to any particular graphics
editing program. That is, what program you use to create it is
completely irrelevant, as long as the program creates properly
encoded files in that format.

Part of David's properly encoded files is that you save
them as uncompressed TIF format files -- any compression in
a TIF file will result in Finale not being able to use it.

free Windows graphics editor for me?

I'd have to research it myself, as my free tools are terribly out of
date, and I've been a licensed PaintShop Pro user for about 12 years,
so haven't needed to find new tools.

Off the top of my head, there's the Gimp, but that's a lame attempt
to replace Photoshop, and has hideous user interface. I'd never use
it for real work.

I think David Bailey mentioned a free graphics editor. Perhaps others
could chime in, but if you're not satisfied with that, I'm willing to
put my money where my mouth is and spend some time researching it.

Actually I hadn't mentioned one, but Artweaver is free and
is much more capable than MSPaint. It also includes the
ability to select the compression to be used (including
none) on TIF files.

It can be downloaded at:
http://www.artweaver.de/index.php?en_version

It's more powerful than MSPaint so it'll take a short while
to get used to all the adjustable parameters but it seems
easy enough to figure out and the price is terrific.

[Finale] Re: Importing Graphics

2009-06-17 Thread Daniel Wolf
Thanks for the help! Finale wants an uncompressed TIFF file and GIMP
(which I'd long ago installed and forgotten) can generate one in a single
click.

[Finale] inputting guitar tab

2009-06-17 Thread David McKay
I hope Claire won't mind me introducing her, because I'm going to anyway.
Claire is one of my former students and is having some trouble inputting
guitar tab in Finale 2003.

She is a terrific violinist, but it has nothing to do with me, because I'm a
Piano and Musicianship [music theory] teacher.

Fire away, Claire.

Friends,

Back in December 2004 - January 2005, there was a thread devoted to

Hi Chuck and others.
I've found Finale list to be a terrifically helpful bunch of folk. I have
not yet had a problem that someone else didn't know the solution to. And I
usually get interesting answers to non-Finale questions, too.

Can't resist asking somethingn that has intrigued me, that I have not yet
foundn the answer to:

I hope I'm not making an idiot of myself here!

It seems that the modes predate keyboards. If this is correct, why is it
that the standard modes
Ionian
Dorian
Phrygian
Lydian
Mixolydian
and
Aeolian

fit so beautifully on the white keys of our keyboards?

You would think that they had been derived from the keyboard, they sit there
so easily.
