[Finale] Number of accidentals in non-standard key signatures

2012-06-24 Thread Andrea La Rose
Dear Collective Wisdom,

I am reviving an old project using 72-edo. I have almost successfully set
up Finale 2012 (Mac OS Lion) with appropriate accidentals, that is, I have
11 accidentals programmed and ready to go, but only can access the first 7
in both directions. Is this a "feature"of Finale or am I missing an
important step? Thanks for your help...

cheers,
Andrea

Re: [Finale] Ray's Tech Tip

2012-06-24 Thread Raymond Horton
(Assuming that Harold is asking a serious question, directed at the
first half of my post)

PC. I was surprised that I could get a midi to USB cable that works
well (I'll post the link if anyone wants it), that it would cost
almost nothing, and that it would work with this old little Casio
MT-240. I will have to get used to the mini keys on it - but they do
allow me to enter chords as widely spaced as a 12th. It doesn't have
a "local on/off" switch but it has something easier - a volume
control.

As I said, I must have slightly brushed the computer keyboard
connector at the back of the computer - not only where the correct
pitches not showing up in Speedy Entry, but nothing, at all, would
happen when I pressed the number keys on the computer keyboard, After
a few tries at all of the different midi device and thru settings, I
finally tried typing in Notepad and the culprit was found.

It's always something.

Re: [Finale] independent time signatures

2012-06-24 Thread Christopher Smith
Time signatures only copy when you copy measure STACKS (all staves, for a
designated number of measures.)

If you are mostly keeping the same time signatures for most of the piece, and
only need the independent time sigs for a relatively short passage, I would
suggest turning off independent time sigs for all staves, setting all of your
time signatures for the whole piece, then change some staves to independent
time signatures and edit those staves's time sigs last.

If it's a repeated pattern, you can also set a measure stack to what you want,
then copy the measure stack to other measure, key signatures only.

This will help save some keystrokes, although it isn't what I had in mind.
If I go into mass edit and select the copy time signatures option and then
try to copy the time signatures from a non-independnt time signature staff
into one of the independent time signature staves, nothing happens. Is there
some trick to getting this move to work?

Recently lost 4 hours of work when I neglected to save manually. Dumb dumb
dumb!
That said, I'll probably do it again when I get too involved. Need
autosave, which I used to use all the time on big scores.

[Finale] Ray's Tech Tip

2012-06-24 Thread Raymond Horton
My son took back a keyboard controller that I had borrowed for quite a
while. I thought I might have to buy a new one, since the keyboard I
was left with was a small Casio I had bought at a pawn shop 20 years
ago for $30 which has midi but, of course, no USB. Before springing
for a new keyboard I decided to risk $4.30 (shipping included) on a
midi to USB connector. It seems to work just fine, but not without
some unneeded difficulty during the installation.

Here is MY tech tip for the day - just ignore it if it is too
technical: When you are installing a midi keyboard onto your computer,
everything will work much better if you do not - I repeat, do not,
accidentally, and without noticing, disconnect your computer keyboard
at the same time.

Let me know if this is a help to anybody.
