Re: [Finale] Exported Audio too loud

2014-02-23 Thread Giovanni Andreani
I had a similar problem when exporting in Fin 2012 with a slight variation
though: after setting individual volumes for all instrument they would be all
leveled at a default rate wich I didn't ask for. Never got to it working right:
I had to export a midi file, import it in Logic and bump from there. I also was
using Garritan sounds in Finale.

I see, Then I think Price Taylor's suggestion should work. I haven't
actually done that, but Price's instructions match what I see in the
documentation. Have you tried that yet?

As far as making the playback work right, that is simply a matter of
putting in the right number for "jump on pass" at the "to coda" mark.

The way I normally see this indicated to the musician is to add a
parenthetical comment under the D.C. or D.S. mark saying "(Repeats good
on DC)". If you do it that way, there can be no confusion

There is no coda. Just a DC al fine, with both sections having 1st and 2nd

Agreed. And there are places where you want repeats (in Big Band and
jazz stuff, at least), open solo sections being the most obvious.

If you do your page layouts carefully, roadmapping is not only easier,
but can almost be obvious. Of course, if the composer is sloppy or
bizarre, this can be very difficult, but most of the time, it's not all
that difficult.

[That said, the one I'm doing right now came with the originals marked
"D.S. al Coda", and there was no coda. Some composers should get
smacked upside the head.]

Re: [Finale] Beating my head against the wall on repeats

2014-02-23 Thread Craig Parmerlee
Well, there are trade-offs, of course. For jazz band charts, I like to
keep the parts to 2 pages for horns and drums, 3 for bass, and no more
than 4 for piano. But I never do a DS or DC that will go back more
than one page.

If there are good opportunities for page turns, I don't mind going to 4
pages (both sides of an 11x17 sheet).

Of course there are extended works that would never fit in that space,
but for your normal 3-5 minute charts, I think those are reasonable
limits. I do agree with you that the road map can be the source of
train wrecks for a band playing a lot of charts they aren't really
familiar with, so I will thru-compose as long as I can live within the
above limits.

But DS and DC need not be fatal problems. I always try to have any
signs begin on a new staff, such that I can hang the segno mark out into
the margin a little for quick visual reference. And codas are ALWAYS on
a new line, always indented. And if page layout permits, I add a little
vertical space above the coda. if you do those things, the performance
usually goes smoothly.

I have a problem I just can't figure out. I am using F2014, but it
might be the same in earlier releases.

My problem is my score has Sign ... To Coda ... D.S. al coda ... Coda.

As far as I can tell, all 4 of those marks have exactly the same
settings (Show on top staff only). The only difference I can see is
that the Sign and the Coda symbols are just markers whereas the other
two are jumps. The playback works perfectly.

My problem is that when I lay out parts, I need to move those items
around a little in the individual parts. I can move three of them
freely on every single part. But I cannot move the "To Coda" at all on
most of the parts. I can select it and the item changes color, but I
just can't move it -- and I really must move it because it is landing
right on top of a MM rest in most parts.

The pattern is that I can move "To Coda" ONLY on the parts that are the
first in a staff group. If a part is not in a staff group or is the top
staff in a group, then I can move "To Coda". But I can move the other
three in all parts.

I have tried unlinking the symbols. No difference. I have tried "Allow
individual edits per staff" which really seemed like it should work. No
good. I can't think of anything else to try.

Anybody have ideas? Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Maybe I don't understand the problem. I think the issue is that you need
to set the correct number in the "To Coda" marker for "Jump on pass #".

[Finale] Temporarily Hide Group Bracket

2014-02-23 Thread Giovanni Andreani
I need to temporarily hide a group's bracket at the beginning of a system while
showing on the others.
Is there any way to do so?

Subject: [TGTools] TGTools 2.71 for Finale 2010-2014 available (Windows and
Macintosh)

Hello,

this is just a quick note that finally, TGTools have been updated to work with
the latest Finale versions. You will find version 2.71 on our web site, as a
free update if you have an older v2 license. The TGTools features should
basically all work, although some may no longer apply to recent Finale versions.

I am also planning a more dedicated upgrade to use the latest data structures
and add some features. This will be TGTools 3.0 and it is planned as a payed
upgrade.

Kind Regards,
Tobias Giesen

Re: [Finale] Repeats on D.C.

2014-02-23 Thread Craig Parmerlee
That sounds confusing. If I were reading that score I'd play all 4
times before proceeding to the next section.

[Finale] Exported Audio too loud

2014-02-23 Thread Ryan
Hello,
Finale 2012c.
Exported an AIFF file. Used Garritan sounds.
It sounds great in Finale's playback, but the audio file it exported clips
the sound; the sound is distorted.
I've lowered all the levels in the mixer to be at 64, thinking that might
solve the problem. It didn't. I lowered the master volume three different
times and that didn't work.
The style of Human Playback doesn't seem to affect it, either.
All the instruments are one separate staves, and they're each assigned
their own Garritan sound; Orch Trumpet Player 1, Orch Trumpet Player 2, etc.
Has anyone else experienced this?
What else should I adjust?
Thanks
Ryan

[Finale] DS al Fin

2014-02-23 Thread John Witmer
How do you make a Finale playback actually stop at the Fine in a DS al Fin with
an embedded repeat?
Finale wants to keep right on playing after the going back to the signe and
getting to the Fine.

Re: [Finale] Exported Audio too loud

2014-02-23 Thread Ryan
I think I've figured it out. I had a reverb setting active. I turned it off
and the exported file is no longer distorted.
But, I'd still be interested in hearing your solutions in case there's a
better solution!
