Well, yes, Finale does that automatically.

Having the mark carry over from previous pages seems like some of those
old scores that never repeat the key signatures.

It's a transcription.

[Finale] emailing pdf

2015-05-08 Thread Lawrence Yates
Hi folks,

I'm using WinFin2012c

I have created a file and exported the parts to pdf. All of these have
emailed to my client except the Violin 1 part which has failed four times
now. I have tried renaming it, re-exporting it from Finale, re-saving the
original file under a different name and re-exporting. It isn't the
biggest file.

So far nothing is working.

Any ideas please?

Cheers

Thanks - no, there are no illegal characters but amazingly, since I sent my

the problem was.

Ah well, another problem solved!

Re: [Finale] emailing pdf

2015-05-08 Thread Lee Actor
The pdf export feature in WinFin2012c (the version I'm currently using) has
a bug that generates extraneous characters, usually at the bottom of pages
containing triplets. I reported this bug to Makemusic in Nov. 2013; it's a
known bug in the 3rd party pdf export engine they use, and to the best of my
knowledge it has not been fixed in Fin2014 to date. You might consider
using one of the many available pdf printer products, which install as a
printer driver and enable pdfs to be produced from any application which can
print. I've tried many of them, and my current favorite is Bullzip
(http://bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php). It's fast, full-featured,
produces very small file sizes, and is solid as a rock. Even better, it's
free for individual use.

One other thing: the Finale pdf export, in addition to being buggy, produces
files 5-6x bigger than any other pdf tool I've used.

Retranscribe in the MIDI menu will do precisely that.

What a relief! Thanks very much Dennis.

I wonder what I needed to search on to find out about that. I think I tried
note values.

[Finale] Mass turning ties into dots? Possible? WinFin 2014

2015-05-08 Thread Patsy Moore
Hello Listers,

My WinFin 2014 frustrations and annoyances continue, this time with a file
imported from Midi.

It's an orchestral score starting in 6/8 and continuing in a mixture of 6/8
and 9/8. When it's imported it mysteriously has a whole bar's rest at the
beginning, followed by another 1/8 rest in the few parts that are playing
at the beginning. Everything that follows is showing up 1/8 later than
intended. There are also quite a lot of empty measures at the end of the
music, which are not a problem, just a mystery.

I've managed to remove the surplus 7 x 1/8 at the beginning and rebar, but
instead of getting dotted 1/4 or dotted 1/2 for the longer notes I've got
forests of ties, e.g. most bars with a single long note showing
1/4-tie-1/8-tie twice instead of dotted 1/2.

I'm doing my best to removed the unhelpful word should from my
vocabulary, but I hope I'm missing a way to turn the tied notes globally
into dotted ones.

Greetings from England,

Patsy

Re: [Finale] FinWin 2014 Handle size and colour?

2015-05-08 Thread Patsy Moore
On 2015-04-28 Jari Williamson wrote:

  Select Edit/Preferences...

value) and Transparent Handles (uncheck that one).

Belated thanks for that, Jari - just surfaced again!
The size change was just what I needed, but I still haven't got all I was
hoping for. Especially in the Measure tool, which I find extremely fiddly
to use, I'm looking at barlines completely covered by 3 handles that claim
to be transparent but aren't, plus a 4th one sticking out to the right. I
want to be able to see what's underneath without the dirty grey shadows on
the insides of them.

Unchecking Transparent Handles on my now slightly bigger than standard
sized ones produces opaque ones that make the barline invisible and can
completely cover a note head at the bottom of the stave. Groan...

What I want are the neat, thin outlines of the opaque ones with a clear
view through the middle, and no messy, dirty shading. Am I missing something?

Just off to start another topic.
