Re: [Finale] Java 6
Can anyone tell me why Finale 2014 still requires Java 6? I’m in Yosemite and I have to re-install Java 6 periodically in order to get all of the menus to show up in Finale. This is extremely annoying. What gives? Re: [Finale] Java 6
You shouldn't have to install it more than once. Are you doing complete system re-installs or updates? Once it is installed, it is supposed to co-exist peacefully with the latest Java and you shouldn't have to touch it again. Or maybe when you update the NEW Java, it disables Java 6? That would surprise me too, but MakeMusic is a little behind the times (okay, a lot!) [Finale] OT: StaffPad and palm rejection
So I got my Windows Surface, and I have started practicing entering music with a pen (in StaffPad). It works decently, though I am so ham-fisted (and now, arthritic) that I wonder if I can ever use it productively. But the main issue right now is that the palm rejection doesn't seem rock solid. In particular, if my palm hits the lower right area of the screen (while using the pen on a bar), it often pops up the StaffPad home screen. This is perhaps the single most frustrating behavior I have encountered and it really is a show-stopper. Does anyone know a way to stop it? ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu

masking tape? i don't know how sensitive it is, but maybe tape a piece of paper over the area? if you don't need it. i never work with these things, so i don't really know what i am talking about, but there you go anyways. -- NEW RELEASE!!! neueweise -- fonts for new music and traditional notation http://newmusicnotation.com/fonts shirling & neueweise | http://newmusicnotation.com new music notation + translation + arts management [FB] http://facebook.com/neueweise | [TW] http://twitter.com/neueweise ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
Re: [Finale] Java 6
I think I discovered the problem. It’s when I boot up Finale while I have Digital Performer open. At first I don’t see any of the menus, but if I click on Finale in the Dock the menus show up. I thought Java was the culprit, but I think I was wrong. I still don’t understand why Java 6 is necessary to run Finale in Yosemite. So I agree, MM seems to be behind the times on this issue. [Finale] easier, faster input of various notes over repeated rhythmic pattern -- any suggestions?
I'd like to be able to input a long string of pitches that would adopt a preset rhythmic pattern; or vice versa, I'd like to input a string of pitches and then modify them to fit a repeating rhythm pattern. I'd also like to be able to modify rhythms more easily, as in changing -- in one fell swoop -- a whole set of dotted quarters into quarters * eighths. I can input using one hand on the midi keyboard and the other on the num pad, but changing numbers and symbols while inputting notes can be slow, clunky, and usually results in having to redo errors. Using hyperscribe doesn't work well for this task, either, partly because I have to concentrate on remembering not to use the standard pianist technique of syncopated pedaling, and also because it requires memorizing the rhythm pattern. TG Tools won't allow this kind of modification because you have to have exactly the same number of notes in the rhythm and pitch staves, not to mention you have to set up the rhythm pattern in advance. Again, slow and clumsy if you do this sort of thing very often. I've looked at upgrading to Fin2014 but fail to find anything that makes this kind of operation easier. Am I overlooking something? Is there an easy way to do this within Finale?Has anyone else conquered this problem, perhaps with macro software? And if so, what software did you use? Many thanks for any advice.Marilyn ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
Re: [Finale] easier, faster input of various notes over repeated rhythmic pattern -- any suggestions?
Depending on the passage, there are possibly two ways to do this. 1. Enter the passage first that will contain the correct rhythm. Copy it to another staff. Using the Repitch command in Simple Entry, click on the first note, then on the MIDI keyboard just play the pitches you want one after another, in any rhythm or speed. The cursor will automatically step forward to the next note, skipping rests. Remember to hit the same pitch TWICE if it is tied (once for each note head.) 2. Enter the pitches, then use JW Rhythm Copy to copy the rhythm from another staff. This may not work as you want, depending on what the passage is like. JW Rhythm Copy will also copy a notation pattern (do you mean turn a dotted quarter into a separate quarter, then an eighth, or turn it into a quarter TIED to an eighth? JW will do the second easily.)
