Re: [Finale] Always skip first ending

2016-01-13 Thread Peter Taylor
I'm not up with recent versions, but in Fin 2005 and 2007 there is indeed an
option in the endings dialog of "Go to measure #". Do you not have it? But
anyway, it's very easy to create it if MakeMusic don't include it in the
modern default files.

Re: [Finale] Weird Playback issue in Fin14

2016-01-13 Thread Christopher Smith
Could it be that the violin patch on that staff is not the KS type (keyswitch)
which responds to HP commands like “pizz”? Check it in the Score Manager, and
load the correct one if necessary.

I have heard (though not experienced) that sometimes the pizz marking does not
register because it was accidentally attached to the wrong staff, or that it is
attached AFTER the first note, or too close to it. This last one was resolved
by putting the pizz mark on beat 1, while the first pizz note was beat 2. I
don’t know why that would be an issue, but I am just reporting what I heard.

[Finale] My lone appearances on "Music Makes a City - Now"

2016-01-13 Thread Raymond Horton
This will be my only appearances on this series. (I am on medical leave
this year, and will retire at the end of the season.) There are shots of me
in the trombone section throughout, one shot of just me at about two
minutes in. For some reason we are constantly identified as the whole
orchestra, even though it's obviously only the brass and percussion
section. Maestro Abrams' new piece is interesting, makes much use of 11/16
time.

Re: [Finale] Always skip first ending

2016-01-13 Thread David H. Bailey

In the current versions of Finale, that "Go To Measure#" is only
effective once the first ending is played -- it does not prevent the
first ending from being played as Robert asked for help with in the
original message.

As I recall that has always worked that way -- it's for defining which
measure the repeat should go back to or jump forward to, but only after
the first ending has been played.

I don't see any easy way, but the workaround I've found isn't too
 onerous:
 1) in the repeat tool duplicate the D.S. al Fine instruction and edit
 the font to be hidden.
 2) select this new hidden D.S. al Fine in the repeat tool and set the
target measure number to be the start of the 2nd ending.

This worked in my short 3 measure example so I see no reason why it
shouldn't work for you in a more major piece.

David,

At your quite helpful suggestion, I went back and looked at the text
repeats. Go Measure # works for me, so long as it is in the bar preceding
the first ending.

Ahh -- that's the one Peter was talking about. I was referring to the
"Go To Measure #" which is part of the dialog when assigning a repeat or
an ending to a measure.

I had missed that one, too. Silly us. ;-)
