It would be great if you could download the free trial and tell us if

[Finale] New Finale

2016-08-17 Thread Allen Cohen

I would so much like to be optimistic about the new version--especially that
the bugs from 2014 will be fixed! But all of this discussion makes me feel,
shall we say, somewhat skeptical...

Just for fun, here is a list of bugs I am constantly encountering in 2014.5 for
Mac (with El Capitan). Please feel free to correct me if I've missed a fix--or
double the fun, and add the bugs you've discovered to the list!

-Harp parts with glissandi in both hands don't play back correctly in Aria.
-Harmonics play back correctly in some staves but not in others.
-Smart Shape metatools can't be changed.
-Text blocks do not display properly in Page View, except in Column View. (Or
sometimes Book View.)
-Sometimes Page View just refuses to change pages. Only switching to Scroll
View gets me to the proper place. This happens (and disappears) unpredictably.
-Contrary to the User Guide, Command-Home and command-End do not work in Page
View.
-At least when converting older versions to 2014, EPS graphics do not display
properly.
-The Tempo tool no longer allows more than one tempo in a bar! (There are some
very kludgy workarounds.)
-Playback controls do not work well; in particular, you have to hit either Stop
or the space bar many times to get playback to stop.

I don’t understand the question. “Replicate?” And what do you mean by “next to”?

The Resize Tool (looks like a %) should do everything you want, assuming you
click in the correct place (it behaves differently depending on how you aim it.)

[Finale] Tuplet correction plugin

2016-08-17 Thread Barbara Touburg
Hello all,

After a lengthy and confusing correspondence with the helpdesk at
Makemusic, I found out that the engraver tuplets aren't engraver tuplets
at all.
I thought that I messed up my tuplet settings, so I asked the helpdesk
what the default settings are.
There are none, at least no settings that could achieve my goal, namely:

number on beamed tuplets always on the beam side
tuplets on unbeamed notes always above the notes
but in case of 2 layers:
layer 1, always over the notes, regardless of stem direction
layer 2, always under the notes, regardless of stem direction.

Would one of the plugin developers be interested to program a plugin
that can take care of my wishes?
That would be great!

Thanks,
Barbara

[Finale] Finale 25 ain't true 64-bit

2016-08-17 Thread Howey, Henry
Why?

Because you cannot move around a playing score like you can in Sibelius.

There is still no lunga for early music.

And my extended set of Garritan sounds is not readily available.

I may move to Steinberg soon.

2016-08-17 Thread Raymond Horton
There is a very helpful report. Would you be interested in running a couple
of speed tests, with a file I send you?

[Finale] Finale 25--Plug-ins

2016-08-17 Thread Steve Gruver
I just upgraded to Finale 25 from v2014.5 and have it found it to be very
stable and fast (especially when doing playback of a file). However, be
aware that TGTools, JW Tools, etc will NOT work with this new version until
they come out with a 64-bit version.

I received an email from Tobias Giesen (TGTools) this morning stating that
a 64-bit version for MacOS will be out in a couple of weeks.

Re: [Finale] Finale vNext

2016-08-17 Thread Mike Greensill
WellI don't see shelling out $149 for what seems like almost no new
features and no promises of bug fixes. When it comes down to it I'm
thrilled with the way 2012 works, it does everything I need. I had no luck
with 2014. Maybe if I got a new computer with all the latest mac operating
systems I might be tempted. But I'm leery about upgrading because it seems
that so many older programs won't work any more.
