[Finale] Problems emailing musx files

2017-04-15 Thread Andrew Levin
Hi, all,

Does anyone have trouble emailing musx files? In recent months, some colleagues
of mine at the university and I are having trouble sending musx files via
email. The email goes through, but with the musx file stripped off. A note from
Postmaster accompanies this:

===

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. Your email
message was not delivered as is to the intended recipients because malware was
detected in one or more attachments included with it. All attachments were

I asked the university IT folks if we can just allow the musx file to go
through, to make an exception with this file type. It came back that it’s not
the file type, but "the issue does not seem to be the file extension, but the
META-INF portions of the file being seen as java executables. I will submit a
ticket to Microsoft about this mis-identification.”

So we wait, and I can’t send musx files as attachments. Zipping doesn’t help. I
tried sending the file from a different email account, but to no avail.

MakeMusic support suggests export the file to Music XML, but for some work I
need it to appear exactly as I have worked it out in the Finale file.

Has anyone else had this problem? Found a solution? Thanks in advance for your
help.

(Note: I’m on the digest, so I’d appreciate if you can also reply to me
directly).

Easiest solution: Dropbox. It's free and easy to use. You upload the file,
and send the link.

Re: [Finale] Problems emailing musx files

2017-04-15 Thread Christopher Smith
I’ve heard of this. What I do is to put the file inside a folder, name the
folder without anything that looks like a file extension, and zip that folder.
That usually works.

But recently I’ve taken to sending Dropbox links, which don’t get lost, are
retrievable from anywhere, and can be any size of file. (Google Drive does the
same thing.)

[Finale] Different type barlines at a specific place

2017-04-15 Thread Barbara Touburg
Hello,

I'm working on an organ piece in which the barlines on the top two
staffs are drawn through both staves, but incidentally I need barlines
between the staves.
I know that there's a way to accomplish this, but I can't remember. Can
anyone help? Thanks!

Hi Barbara,

It’s in the Group Attributes. In the Measure Tool>Measure menu>Groups>Edit
there is an option.

Re: [Finale] Problems emailing musx files

2017-04-15 Thread Bruce Kau
Have your recipient contact the email administrator. I am an email
administrator at my company, and the current amount of bad stuff "out
there" makes IT security folks overcautious. I think if your recipient
explains clearly to the IT staff and explains that this type of file is
required for his/her work, and .musx files do not contain macros,
scripts, and naughty-ware, the admin can almost certainly put in a rule
stating that these files are safe.

It’s in the Staff menu >>Groups and Brackets>>Add
Then there is a popup menu where you can select “Draw barlines only between

However it didn’t work. I selected a couple of measures only for a new group,
but didn’t get the barlines between staves. I am missing something.

[Finale] Defined measure numbers and barlines

2017-04-15 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hi, can anyone confirm that this bug is still present in Finale 25,3 for
Windows? When I have "Display measure numbers" active but have some
measures not included in measure numbering, Finale seems to behave quite
strangely: if I change a barline style, for instance, clicking on the
barline box and selecting a different one, Finale applies the changes
somewhere else (it seems it counts the bars ignoring the not included bars)
although I have clicked in a specific barline. This behaviour is not
present if I select "Display actual measure numbers". AFAIR, I noticed this
bug in Fin2011, maybe earlier versions already have it, and it seems it has
not been addressed yet (and I guess it should not be very difficult to
solve). I remember that there were also other problems linked to this
issue, but cannot remember any just now.

Yes, it's annoying

You can probably do it with some combination of Group Barlines and Measure
Barlines and enabling/disabling "Override Group Barlines" in the measure
attributes dialog.

But I'd have to see the specific example to say for certain.

staff tool :

you can create a group for only 1 measure or a few. do your layout
first because the barline appearances depend on the group the 1st
measure on the system belongs to, as i recall. i'm away from finale
at the moment so can't verify 100% the details of what i wrote :P but
that should get you in the right direction at least

try selecting the entire system (all measures in
