Re: [Finale] [OT] voice part only

If I have to sing notation at a different pitch, particularly if it's more than a 2nd off, I'll do funny mental things with clefs to remind myself where I am. It's hard enough to make music without fighting the notation, which is why we do what we do. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
Re: [Finale] an 18th Century horn question
I think context is the key here. Remember that you're dealing with natural horns. First, if there is no clef, assume treble, because that would be the most usual clef, esp. if the writing is at all conjunct, Bass is not impossible, for low notes, but not likely. Next, assume that the horns are in concert key; i.e., if the piece is in D major, the horns are in D. Do the results make musical sense? If not, you may have cross-keyed horns, but this is early for that. In some keys (C?) you may have to decide whether it's alto or basso -- particularly high writing would point toward basso. And thank you for working with the forgotten heritage of Catholic church music. Re: [Finale] My music won't stand still to be edited!
I tried turning things off in the mouse settings to no avail. But using a corded mouse solved the problem. I'll hassle with the Magic Mouse later (which is kind of nice.) [Finale] My music won't stand still to be edited!
Finale 25 Sierra OS (12.1?) Brand-new iMac Here's what it's doing: When I drag the horizontal scroll bar, it "bounces back" a certain distance. When my cursor is in blank space, the window contents will move all by themselves. When I select a measure in Speedy, it will jump to another measure. Eventually things calm down enough that I can make an edit, but it's an inefficient and frustrating process. (this is mostly in Scroll view, but page view does it too) I'm using Brave as a browser and occasionally its windows do some similar flaky things (which I attribute to it being beta), but none of my other programs seem to. Re: [Finale] MacFin 2012 speedy note entry issue
I had a similar but different problem with 2014.5 and OS10.11: th machine wouldn't remember MIDI mappings. If I had to shut down (which I did frequently given that I was running an 8 yo MAC), I'd get the rests too. All I had to do was "rescan MISI" and it was fine, but it was very inconvenient. New Mac, new Finale, different problem (more to come) On 7/16/16 1:49 PM, Martin Banner wrote: > I was inputting some notes into a file in speedy note entry with my > synthesizer without any problems. Re: [Finale] Finale failings
Oh yeah, you could do that. I don't think in chord symbols, and I try not to think in 12tET, so the #9 kludge didn't occur to me. If I were writing polychords for "continuo" in a big band context, I'd probably use 2 instruments (Guitar and piano maybe) and split the triads between them, so they were timbrally separated. Otherwise, they aren't really polychords, but extended tertian structures (not that there's anything wrong with that...)
