[Finale] Beam direction under triplets?

2016-02-25 Thread Philip Brink
Hello. I am back with a question I had about a year ago and now I have run
into the same problem, AND I have forgotten the procedure to fix the
problem.

In music with triplets where the music has sixteenth notes under the
triplet, the sixteenth note has a beam going the wrong way, to the right.
How do I get the beam to go to the left?

I can't answer the question about log drums, but as far as tubas are
concerned, you have to think of the key of the instrument. Tubas come in BB
flat, CC, E flat and F [those are the most common keys.] The trill you
mention is a lip trill on the BB flat instrument, and on the others it
should be a fingered trill. On E flat it might be awkward as it has to be
played with F sharp in 2nd valve and G sharp using 3rd valve. Good luck!

Re: [Finale] FREE ASCAP Composer Career Workshop in Nashville

2015-08-31 Thread Philip Brink
I have a problem a bit different from the formatting and oversize concerns
of late. I am making a special edition of the trombone section parts from
the Ring of the Nibelung. Most of the work is straightforward and doesn't
present a problem. However, when the music uses the motif from the "Ride of
the Valkyries" [dotted eighth, sixteenth, eighth] under a triplet bracket,
the beam for the sixteenth not comes out on the right side [the "wrong"
side] of the stem of the note. I have looked in the help files and found
nothing to help with this. Any ideas?

Re: [Finale] RESIZE TIME SIGNATURES

2015-08-06 Thread Philip Brink
I am having an interesting time with spacing: this is in connection with
a project to make a video of trombone section parts from the Wagner Ring
cycle. I have created a score and all the parts for this project, but my
colleagues [actually my trombone students] complain about illegible parts.
Finale [WinFin2014] has packed measures very close [TOO close] and the only
way I have found to clean it up has been to set Finale to Speedy Entry
and go through large sections of the parts and finish by putting the cursor
away from the staff. It is workable but time-consuming and kludgy. Any
ideas how I can clean things up a bit more elegantly?

I used to know how to create nice, big time signatures for my scores, but
now can't remember how. Please help!

BTW, after all these years I am still not sure: What - from your
 experience
  - is faster:
  a) Enter fl.1, fl.2 etc on separate staves and then implode them for the
final version of the score, or
  b) Enter them as voice 1, voice 2, and then explode for part extraction,
 or
  c) Use some other, much better, tactical approach?
