Re: [Finale] Change instruments in percussion

2017-06-29 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Robert, you're right. I did not notice that (although I remembered the
option when you mentioned it). Curiously, If the change is made in the
middle of the piece, that is the only option that shows up, but if the
change is made from the beginning both are possible. I didn't see the
Marimba [treble clef] option because the Marimba option came up first.
Thanks for clearing it up

[Finale] Change instruments in percussion

2017-06-29 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hi. I'm facing an unespected situation with the orchestral piece I'm
working on. I have two percussion parts. One is playing basically
accesories but needs to change to marimba in some point. I wanted Finale to
handle the change to make playback easier so I used the Change instrument
tool and Finale replaced my percussion staff (on line) with a grand staff.
The marimba played back ok, and I thought I could just delete the extra
staff but the problem is that Finalle does not allow me to change back to
orchestral percussion. It seems that once I selected Marimba as the changed
instrument it only allows for pitched percussion instruments and not
accessories or drums. That is quite annoying, don't know if anyone else has
experienced this situation. I will have to do the change to marimba in the
old way.

Re: [Finale] TGTools in Finale 25

2017-06-21 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
It seems that this situation is linked to the use of two monitors. The
TGTools function windows show up off the screens, off both of them. Tobias
showed me how to move them back to the screen but the issue is there
everytime. Has anyone else using two monitors experienced something similar
with this tool or any other?

Re: [Finale] TGTools in Finale 25

2017-06-18 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
I have already asked Tobias, waiting for his reply. Was wondering if
anybody else has experienced the situation. So far I have discovered that
if I keep one the action windows open, like for instance, Find (which
works) then I can open the other action windows without a problem.
Exception is the Options window, that is not showing at all.

It's annoying and weird. Have already reinstalled Finale, and the problem
seems to be there still.

[Finale] TGTools in Finale 25

2017-06-16 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hi, has anyone experienced issues with TGTools v.3rc2 or beta in Finale
25(.1 or .3)? Mine is not reacting apparently (or maybe it reacts but
nothing visible is happening) and I cannot use the tools I've been used to
for decades. It was ok until Fin 2014.5 but the new 64bit version is not
working for me. I am aware there were issues with the shortkeys but
apparently that has been corrected. This is somewhat more serios as almost
no option from the menu seems to be working.

I have asked Tobias but while I'm awaiting for an answer I'd like to know
if anyone has experienced anything similar. I have Finale 25,3 in a HP with
Intel i5and Windows 10, of course 64bit.

[Finale] Defined measure numbers and barlines

2017-04-15 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hi, can anyone confirm that this bug is still present in Finale 25,3 for
Windows? When I have "Display measure numbers" active but have some
measures not included in measure numbering, Finale seems to behave quite
strangely: if I change a barline style, for instance, clicking on the
barline box and selecting a different one, Finale applies the changes
somewhere else (it seems it counts the bars ignoring the not included bars)
although I have clicked in a specific barline. This behaviour is not
present if I select "Display actual measure numbers". AFAIR, I noticed this
bug in Fin2011, maybe earlier versions already have it, and it seems it has
not been addressed yet (and I guess it should not be very difficult to
solve). I remember that there were also other problems linked to this
issue, but cannot remember any just now.

Yes, it's annoying

AFAIK, Instruments.txt does not longer exist. Instrument definitions are
hardwired and compiled and determined by the programmers, we no longer have

Re: [Finale] Key signature

2016-10-18 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
By outgoing, do you mean the naturals that are cancelled? If that's the
case, use the normal new key signature (with the cancelling naturals
shown), hide the barline, add some extra space between the cancelled key
and the new one and add a smart shape line as barline.

There seems to be a bug, also found in Fin25. The clef assignment can be
changed (to treble clef) but playback is wrong anyway. You'll have to do it
in the old way, with Staff Styles (and tell Makemusic too)

Re: [Finale] mid-measure generated courtesy clef

2016-07-15 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
I have tried to recreate thw situation and I get no phantom clefs. But now
I remember I had a similar problem, do not remember exactly how it was, but
I had problems to get the mid measure clefs in the right position, and I
assumed it was a bug. All I remember was that measure numbering was the
issue, do not remember if it was because I had a pickup measure (it was not
my file, someone else had made it and I was just formatting), or there were
hidden measures (vertically) or the measure numbers was not continous
(there were some measures not counted). Or maybe it was just that there
were measure number regions. Maybe that is a possibility. Other option
might be the use of voices, but it does not look like that in the fig. I
suggest you delete the measure, reeenter the music all in in G clef, select
the last notes only when in clef tool and press 4 to change the clef, do
not use the right click window select.

Try loading as Administrator. If it does not work, try loading in in
compatibility mode, let it check the compatibility and save the results. It
might work sometimes then, but maybe you'll have to do the procedure every

Re: [Finale] Line

I agree that the line over the notes is an out-of-tempo sign. But I find
the transcription overhelmingly pedantic and unnecessary difficult. It
distorts the idea of a score as a guide for making music, provided there's
also the recording. And it makes me wonder why the use of apoggiaturas,
they must've been transcribed also into regular rhhythm notation to keep
the idea.

Re: [Finale] Force Full Staff/Group Names

2015-06-30 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hi. It's in Measure Attributes, check Show full staff and group names.
I've also noticed it recently, been using the Staff Styles method (it can
be painful)

I seem to recall a version or two ago that it was possible to force a score
system to display the full staff or group names, rather than the
abbreviated name (in the case of a new movement starting in the same
document). Is this possible and how is it done?

I know you can define a group to apply only to a certain number of
measures. Then you can redefine another group for the rest of the document.
That would be too time consuming in my case. This is a method book and each
new exercise is essentially a new movement. I'm hoping for a one-click
 solution (Plug-In?).

 Thanks

[Finale] Transferring page layout

2015-06-05 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hi. I have just realised that I've been working on an old version file of a
large orchestra project, where I have already set the whole staff layout
for each page. I'd like to know if there is a chance to transfer the whole
layout to another file, provided the number of measures per system and the
number of systems per page are equally set.

JW Copy part layout does not work on scores, and TG Tools Modify- Transfer
seems not to do anything

Thanks a lot for your ideas

[Finale] Maestro Wide and Windows 8.1

2015-05-16 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Hello

I have just run into a problem with Finale 2014 on Windows 8.1. I cannot
select Maestro Wide in any instance, it always reverts to Maestro regular.
I am aware there was an issue in FinWin10 and Windows 7 that was supposedly
corrected with an update (I skipped Windows 2010 altogether) and had not
noticed any problem in FinWin11 under Vista or Windows 7, but now that I'm
using the latest versions of Finale and Windows I have found this issue.
Can anyone replicate the problem or is it just related to my own
installation?

Thanks

Re: [Finale] Maestro Wide and Windows 8.1

2015-05-16 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Found a workaround that applied to earlier versions, but seems to work here
too: instead of selection Maestro and Wide from the font and type list
boxes, type directly Maestro Wide and Wide respectively and click OK. It
seems to work. I guess it's more like a Wondows issue in the handling of
fonts but it's quite annoying

Very curious -- on my computer, FinWin2014 and Win8.1 I can't select the
Wide option either. It always reverts back to Regular.

So it's not just your installation -- it's mine, too.

Re: [Finale] Maestro Wide and Windows 8.1

Thanks, Jan. That's funny, I have my Windows in English, with local
configuration in Finnish but keyboard in Spanish with Finnish layout. I
guess that confuses Finale :D

MM support recommended just what you said: type directly Maestro Wide.
 It works fine.
They said it was an issue that only appears in non-english versions of
Windows - in my case German - which they don't officially support.

Hi. You need to deselect the sign clicking somewhere else and select it
again. Strange behaviour, but it's the same with slurs.

Re: [Finale] tuplets: global changes, copying definitions

2015-01-27 Thread Rafael Leonardo Junchaya
Don, I'd also suggest that you try Jari Williamson's JWChange plugin. It
does some tricks with the tuplets (I also used it in an old file to correct
the tuplet positions)

 Don,

It may just be that after several updates and upgrades, at least once a
year, there was about a three-year hiatus between 2.6.3 and the next
version which I believe was called 3.0. So we got to know 2.6.3 really
well. I'm pretty sure I did all my work for graduate school on it. And it
*was* stable. Much more stable than 3.0.

I don't recall when note-attached slurs came in. It may not have been until
Fin97. Otherwise it was probably in an iteration of v3.

BTW: If you want to use my plugins with Fin11, you need to continue to use
v3. Later versions do not run in any version before Fin12.

Were smart shapes introduced in v.2? The slurs in this score didn't
 attach

have a fondness for 2.6.3. I think a large part of it was stability. I
distinctly remember losing a day's work after Finale crashed, even
 though I
had been meticulously saving my work all day long. I believe 2.6.3 fixed
that behavior, but my habit of saving alternately to two external disks

You should be able to return your tuplets to default settings en-masse
 by
selecting a range then using Utilities-Change-Tuplets. If you hit the
Reset button at the bottom, it will fill in the default tuplet
 settings.

For some reason every version of Finale since the beginning has has
  forced
Tuplets to be tied to Notes in the Edit filter. This arbitrary
  restriction
was the original reason I created the first version of my Mass Copy
  plugin
(then called Tuplet Copy or some such). You can use Mass Copy to copy
tuplets and tuplet settings without copying the notes.

I tried opening one of my files from the 90-91 era, and it does not
  report
the version. The suggests to me that it might be from before v2.
 Ideally
your file would have been upgraded to 2.6.3 before being brought into
 the
