I actually tried to edit the smart shape itself but did not succeed. I also tried a "Smart Playback" plugin from TGTools. Thank you Chuck, that helps hyphenating, but I don't see how it could help making Finale stop hiding the hyphens I typed. And it is not because of tight space, as Christopher pointed out. Re: [Finale] Access to Tempo Tool in FinMac 25
They are not exactly the same, I think. With the Tempo choice from the MIDI menu you need to select a partial measure to change the tempo for say, one beat only; then back to the score to make another partial measure selection for the next beat, to resume the previous tempo. With the Tempo Tool you click the meaure and get a window in which you can determine the exact point in the measure to apply the tempo change in EDUs as well as beats. Seems to me the Tempo Tool is more practical--selecting partial measures is kind of awkward thing to do. to me-- unless I am missing something. Re: [Finale] Barline question
It is consistent with the score because every system ends with a closed barline, whereas in the middle measures the barlines are broken by groups/instruments. These are my choices in Document Options. Finale overides them when there is a repeat sign at the end of a system. However, what's in your picture is fine with me too. I just don't need that. Harold Quoting SN jef chippewa shirl...@newmusicnotation.com: Actually what I want is a continuous repeat barline only at the system's LAST measure. The first one can have breaks between groups. i think that looks ridiculous... just my opinion 8-) -- if you have a full ensemble closing repeat barline there should also be one at the beginning of the repeat. otherwise there is a *HUGE* notational contradiction. -- shirling neueweise new music notation + translation + arts management mailto:shirl...@newmusicnotation.com http://newmusicnotation.com | http://www.facebook.com/neueweise ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
Re: [Finale] Harmonic Minor
Hi Patricia, you don't need the b6 in the minor keys spelling table because it is in the key signature. Same goes for the b3, which eliminates the need for #2 also. All you need to do is to choose #7 instead of b8. Harold Quoting Patricia Spedden psped...@huntington.edu: Thank you for taking the time to offer suggestions. I must really be doing something wrong. My dialog box does not even provide the options you suggest--#2, b3, b6, or b7. I tried to send an attachment with a screen shot of my dialog box, but the attachment was too large to send. So, I'll list below the only options available to me in my Edit Major Minor Key Spellings dialog box: Minor Keys Fixed Scale Step Altered Scale Step Raise #1 #3 #4 #6 #7 Lower b2 b4 b5 b7 b8 The Fixed Scale Step option offers the natural minor scale form, which is what you get when using Default Spelling. I see no way to change the Altered Scale Steps options available to provide the needed 1-½ steps between scale steps 7 8 to get the harmonic minor--and as you can see, your suggested #2, b3, b6 don’t appear to be available. Please advise. I don't understand why that wouldn't be part of Use Default Spelling but maybe you could open a tech support case to complain about it. It makes no sense to me, either. I generally, however, use Favor Sharps or Favor Flats, and have set keyboard shortcuts to switch quickly between them. For G harm minor, I would use Favour Sharps to make the 7th degree show up as F#. As for the second question, I would always use Tracks Become Staves. This means that if the maker of the MIDI file put the same alto sax sound on the same channel on two different staves (Alto Sax 1 and Alto Sax 2, for example), it would show up on two different staves, but they hardly ever do that. Channels Become Staves would combine them. If I need to combine something, I know how Implode Music in Finale works. The Set Track-to-Staff list means that you already know what the MIDI file has, and you want it to import a certain way. This is a terrible option, because the only way to know this is if you created the MIDI file yourself, in which case you should make it the way you want it already.
