[Finale] position certain articulations below staff?

2014-03-20 Thread toro 455
Seeking a way to place certain articulations below the staff in a straight
(horizontal) line.

Within the Articulation Designer I've tried:
Positioning:
Checked: Avoid staff lines
Checked: Always place outside staff
Position: Below Note (using Always on Stem Side seems to do the same
thing as Below Note)

This puts them at least in a straight line, but they are drawn right
through the bottom line of the staff instead of placed below the staff.

I've tried fiddling with the Default Vertical Position setting, but the
numbers I type into that box don't seem to change the position.

OK, I think I figured it out. The Default Vertical Position settings were
not working because they were not being applied to articulations already
entered into the score. I had to delete them and re-enter them in order for
the setting to have an affect.

Funny that you're asking these questions in the Mac forum. The question in

Re: [Finale] tied notes not playing with certain chord symbol present

2013-02-18 Thread toro 455
Exactly. I had suspected some sort of MIDI note conflict, and I temporarily
re-enabled the chord playback in the instrument list when I was
troubleshooting and heard exactly what you are talking about with the
built-in chords lasting only as long as the first note associated. But now
that you explained it, it makes much more sense. Thanks.

Now that you mention about the unchecking Enable Chord Playback in the
Chord menu and I feel like a real dummy. :-) I never saw that before! Now I
don't need to mess with any of my original work-arounds for this. Works
great!

I'm currently using version Finale 2008.

On Mon, Feb 18, 2013 at 9:01 AM, christopher.sm...@videotron.ca wrote:

I know why that is happening. When chord symbols play back, they use the
patch of the staff they are assigned to, and only last as long as the first
note they are associated with. This means that a MIDI note off message is
sent at the end of the first note, and if you have a part on that note, it
ends there, tied or not. Certain chord symbols have a playback associated
with them, and there isn't really any way to know exactly what MIDI number
(pitch and octave) they are going to use. This is why the effect is
 inconsistent.

Since you want to hear your written chords (rather than the Finale
playback of chord symbols) all you have to do is turn off chord playback in
 the Chord menu.

Alternatively, you could set the chords to play back on another channel
other than the one that the staff plays back on, but that procedure has
changed in 2012 and I don't know what version you are on.

Placing a chord symbol on a staff with regular notated notes
  causes certain

My solution for now I created a new instrument in the instrument list
(and named it FinaleChords) on a separate MIDI channel from the staff
with the chord symbols. Then assigned Chords in that staff to that
instrument/MIDI channel and set the volume to 0. I don't even need to mute
chords, it just plays correctly now. I suspected this was a MIDI issue, and
seems I'm right.

[Finale] adding drum set staff

2013-02-14 Thread toro 455
Is there a easy way to add a drum set staff with general MIDI playback and
without it defaulting to playing through VST or SmartMusic softsynth?
Whenever I add a drum set staff using the wizard, I find that the
MIDI/Audio settings have been switched from 'play through MIDI' to 'play
through VST' and I don't want that.

[Finale] playback of grace notes on the beat

2012-12-06 Thread toro 455
Is there a simple way to tell Finale to play all grace notes on the beat
(instead of just before), or is that beyond the capabilities?

[Finale] horizontal position of grace notes in layers

2012-12-01 Thread toro 455
How do I get the grace notes in layer 2 to line up horizontally with the
grace notes in layer 1? If I drag them, they just snap right back. If I use
the note mover, same results.

Re: [Finale] horizontal position of grace notes in layers

2012-12-01 Thread toro 455
Sorry, I'll try to be more clear.

If I drag the grace note (in layer 2) horizontally (either by clicking
directly on it in speedy and draging, or draging the handle that appears in
the Note Position Tool) it will hold its position for the time being,
however, if I go back into the speedy editing frame for that measure and
then click back out of the speedy frame, it then snaps back to it's
original position.

they shouldn't snap back to a default position without you doing
something. does this happen after music spacing? then you might
consider setting the grace notes to keep current in the music
 spacing options.

you have auto music spacing on and the wrong setting in the music

 accessed via cmd-opt-a on mac.

note that grace note positioning is NOT unlinkable in the PTs, so you
could have strangeness in transposing parts.
