RE: [Finale] {Spam} FinMac 2004c - What happened to EPS preview quality?

2004-06-26 Thread Fisher, Allen
Johannes is correct. We were forced to use a bitmap preview because ATSUI (Apple Type
Services for Unicode Imaging--the text and type protocol moving forward on the Mac)
does not support the type of PICTs that we used to do. The type of PICT that we used
were a lot like EPS in that they referenced a font as opposed to simply taking a
screen shot. The advantage was that they were tiny and as an added benefit looked
decent on screen. We opted to keep the file size small. If you want to be able to
adjust the resolution of the preview (or request that it be a higher resolution), send
a feature request in.

Now we have EPS back in Finale for mac, but what on earth happened to the on screen
preview quality? It's dreadful. I used to be able to read EPS's in Word quite clearly
on screen when they were made in Finale 2002b, now they are quite blocky and low res.

I opened a Fin2002 document up in Fin2004 and exported the same graphic into word, and
although they print the same, on screen the new version is awful.

Why would this be?

2004-06-26 Thread Johannes Gebauer
I can only guess, but I think previously the preview was using font
information (which is possible afaik in PICTs) whereas now it is a simple 72
dpi bitmap. I have a feeling the new way is actually more standard.

They should look ok at 100% on screen.

If it really bothers you you may be able to use another app to make better
previews. I have just tried this with MacGhostView, seems to work.

I guess ideally Finale should allow to set the preview resolution, but as it
stands I am glad EPS works at all.
