[Finale] 2006b troubles with GPO, smart music soft synth

2005-12-17 Thread Kurt Gnos

Hi all,

since Finale 2006b seems to support VST instruments, I started to
give them a try.
I copied the GPO big band to Finale's VST folder, and it gets
recogniced. However, to use it, I have to load the sounds into GPO.
Does that really mean I have to check first in the instrument list
which sounds are used on which channels and load the GPO sounds
accordingly, or is there a somewhat more modern and easier way? At
least, it works and I have better sounds than ever in Finale...

Playing around I got a new problem. I switched the out of the smart
music soft synth to my hammerfall DSP and my active monitors instead
using the soundblaster audigy 2 and computer speakers.
However, today I wanted to try more, but got no sound at all. The
settings seem to be stuck to outputs 3/4 of my hammerfall DSP, volume
is zero, and whatever I try, I don't seem to be able to change the
settings. Hitting ok and opening the dialogue box again brings just
the same results.

Normally I don't give much thought on the sounds, since I use Finale
primarily for notation - but now it won't work the way it did, I have to...

Any hints?

Kurt

You should not have to do this if you had Fin2006 installed before
you installed Garritan JABB. It's a _very_ bad idea to move JABB
components after they have been installed.

Garritan JABB should show up as a choice in Finale's Setup Wizard. If
it doesn't, reinstall JABB.

shows up all right, but I worked with an older file (Finale 2004, I
guess). How about an easy way to get older files to use Garritan?

Thanks for the help!

I opened another old file and got it to use the GPO sounds all right
after determinating which channels were used and loading the sounds required.

However - where can I set the audio output. Since the sounds are so
much better I'd like to use my professional sound card and my active
monitors. While I can set this for the smart sound (even if I get a
lot of latency on the card I have set to 3 ms latency which works
fine for other software) (hammerfall DSP), I cannot find the option
in the GPO settings...

Hi Kurt,

1) Create a blank score template with the Setup Wizard Fin2006, open
your Fin2004 document in Fin2006, and copy the entries into your
template. (Obviously, you will lose all your page formatting, so this
would be a playback-only file.)

or

2) Read my tutorial GPOHP Tutorial Supplement in the User Manual
folder. It's for GPO, not JABB, but the principles are the same.

You'll have to ask a WIndows user about that. On Mac, AU/VST output
defaults to system sound output, which you can set in the Sound
Control Panel.

If Mac, Finale outputs to CA driver, which you need to define in the
System Pref Pane. If your default sound is output to RME, that's where
you hear the sound from.

If Windows, MIDI Setup - Settings - Output Source.
