OK, I'll admit my ignorance. What the heck is HP? Hewlet-Packard?
That's the only thing that comes to mind. Apparently I'm the only
one who doesn't know, since nobody bothers to define it.

John:

This thread is referring to Human Playback, the humanizing
interpreter for dynamics and articulations, present in Finale since
version 2004.

 Hello Finale Wizards.

I have a few questions about the new HP plug-in. I'm on an iMac G4
running Fin2k5a with I GB RAM and 800 MHz.

 1) If I run the plug-in on a whole file, then save the file, will the
HP data be saved with it?

Yes. That's the reason that the PI was included.

 2) When I play the file after running the plug-in with HP turned off
and internal speaker set to SoftSynth, MIDI Thru off -- will it sound
the same as playing the file with HP on in the normal way?

Yes, unless you tweak the MIDI data after the PI has run.

 3) For playback with GPO I have HP configured for GPO with GPO Studio
set for MIDI output. What setting should I use for internal speaker?

Uncheck the GPO checkboxes in HP prefs, or else you'll get standard Mod
wheel changes and your score will sound funny...

 4) Is there an advantage to turning HP off, using the HP plug-in,
 then using GPO for playback?

The advantages are:
1. The HP MIDI data will be retained in the file, not blown away when
playback is stopped.
2. If you don't like how HP's interpreting something, you can use the MIDI
tool to tweak it.

The biggest advantage is speed! There is no preprocessing delay if you
use the ApplyHP approach.

Also, you might run into some instances (specially regarding dynamics)
where ApplyHP doesn't produce the identical output as the normal HP, but
it should be close enough.
