Re: [Finale] Finale 2007 - Wishlist
It's kind of sad that Sibelius new features should precedent what we really need, isn't it? Before a serious software should announce new features, it should certainly repair non-working features (non-working for about 10 years or so.) Sibelius can do it. Microsoft can do it. Quark can do it. Photoshop can do it, that means Adobe can. Apple can do it. Corel, as well, as Ghostscript etc.. Why is Coda/MakeMusic the one and only company I know of that cannot it's long-praised PS-features get to work? A better File format or import/export filters that allow you to open and save between versions, I mean, also from the newer to the older version. I'm working on a book where some of my co-autors only have Finale 2005. Because EPS on WinXP does not work, someone on Mac will have to do all the music examples again... (we work with Tiffs for a workaround, but finally (,-) with EPS I have no problems in Microsoft word between platforms and versions. How about Finale, too? I don't mind if the new features are not support in the older programs, of course, just get the important stuff through. I don't need a lot of the features added in the last few versions, I can do everything I need to do, but these two things would really make my life easier. I'm sure you have also wishes and priorities. Why not share them? And why not, finally - ask Coda/MakeMusic to make them true? You really need to raise this issue with MakeMusic now because they may already have the list of what features they'll add, which long-standing bugs they'll try to fix, which new bugs they'll try to fix, which long-standing broken aspects of the program they'll try to repair, which Sibelius 4 features they'll want to incorporate (I bet they're sweating Dynamic Parts right now), which features they feel will give them the edge over Sibelius once again. I'm sure you have also wishes and priorities. Why not share them? And why not, finally - ask Coda/MakeMusic to make them true? cheers Kurt --- One thing I have been asking for for years is improved handling of multiple time signatures. Right now the only option is that Finale decides to accept one staff as the main timekeeper, then adjusts all other staves so that the bar lines all line up. In other words, a 1/4 note in 3/4 time is longer than a 1/4 note in a simultaneous measure of 4/4 time. What I need: 1) an option to make 1/4 notes equal in length in all staves, regardless of the time signatures. (In other words, staggered bar lines). 2) An option to have measures equal in length, but I get to choose which staff will be the master. (I have asked MM several times for this.) I guess one solution would be a relatively simple plugin which will make bar lines invisible automatically. I doubt that Finale will ever support this natively, simply because of the way Finale is designed. The workaround does work, I have used it in the past, but requires some extra steps. What you cannot do is combine Finale GPO sounds with Finale softsynth sounds. and, even worse, as you can't save wav-Files or something using the sounds. I guess this will be made possible by a contact player update? Several people have been told that this will be addressed in a free Finale maintenance release.
