It's the Garritan sounds that occupy the majority of the HD space. Aria

Hi David,

Actually, on investigation I think I was wrong -- it looks like you can still
use the SmartMusic SoftSynth instruments both inside and outside of the Aria
Player. It's just that Finale now defaults to using it with Aria.

Download the demo of Mackeeper and 'find duplicates'.
I'm pretty organised and efficient on my mac but still regained about 10 gigs.
You need to manually search and delete the duplicates - unless you pay.
FWIW it is pretty easy and cheap to replace the internal drive on a mac laptop
- I put a 500gig in mine.

Drop the Garritan and Aria Player. The Garritan sounds are heavy and will
free up plenty of room, especially if all you need is another year and can
 deal with General MIDI playback.

I got rid of all my unused printer definitions too and saved a bunch of space

Buy TWO -- one for backup of the first one and of your internal drive (and
software to do it).

When the floods came at the end of August, we grabbed all those drives and
headed out (with two cats and an emergency kit).

While my first inclination would be to echo the suggestion of those
suggesting addition of a hard drive, it doesn't answer your question. As
far as I can tell (and I'll admit here that I've not yet upgraded to
2012), you can probably safely decline to install Garritan instruments
and the Aria player without losing any Finale functionality, although of
the two, the largest is probably the Garritan instruments library. I'd
guess the Aria player is small enough to not make much difference. The
other things that one might choose not to install are, again, small
enough not to make much difference in the final analysis.

Just to be safe, you might want to pose the question to MakeMusic
technical support, though.
